You can obviously tell the people bashing Planet Fitness work for other gyms. I mean I wouldn't say it's the best gym in the area but I wouldn't say it smells any different than the 3 other gym franchises I've worked out in or is overly crowded (not more than any other gym at peak working out times). The swinging weights around comment makes no sense since PF has more machines than free weights. It definitely isn't a muscle head gym if that is what is being implied.

Thats exactly what a lot of people are looking for; for 10 a month I don't expect olympic quality or a pool or hell even the nice scenery that walks in there. I want somewhere cheap to work out that ain't swamped with obsessed meatheads.

So a charge for Peak Fitness just appeared on my credit card. Guess I'm going to have to call and scream.Meanwhile, when it comes to the concept of enrollment fees, I wouldn't sign up for a gym if they told me I had to pay one.

it wont be packed for long? fuquay isnt like raleigh where theres a million options. and from the looks of this thread as long as i have my contract in hand whatever company takes over the building would be stupid to not honor memberships as they are.

my friend signed a contract for personal training when she did her contract so she is paying 160 a week in personal training from a gym that is now toast and they are still deducting the money from her bank account. Any ideas how she can keep them from doing it or recoup the money they have taken?

^The only thing I've heard of doing is canceling itit's apparently 25% of whatever's left....I'm offering anyone form PEAK that does that an equivalent amount of free sessions with me if they do some training (since they were at PEAK anyway)example...someone paid $150 to get out of their agreement (had 6 months left)...so I'll give her 5 free sessions or whatever to cover the $150 when she buys some more training.Other than that I have no idea...they're still trying to figure out the details with the company that handled PEAK's trainers

^^The company that handles Peak's trainers, Professional Fitness, is just as shady as Peak. When the downtown location closed, I wanted out of my contract, but under NC law they could move me to the Falls of Neuse location which was still open b/c it was less than 8 miles away. Now that there is no location at which Professional Fitness can perform their services within 8 miles of my original sign up spot, I think the contract should be null and void for both myself and your friend. I went ahead and canceled the credit card that they were billing. I would suggest your friend talk with her bank about some sort of stop payment for a recurring ACH debit.Anyways, back to Professional Fitness's shadyness. Not even my trainer knew where their headquarters was. They run their business out of a box at the UPS store on Six Forks Rd. I did some digging and found their office location, which was across the street. Their elevator lobby was locked, I couldn't even speak to them face-to-face! After calling them several times, not getting through, I told them I was outside and simply wanted to speak to someone. Their VP of Operations, a Scott Higginbotham, came out and promised me that if [when] the Falls of Neuse location closed, that I would be out of my contract and refunded for my 12th month of service which was prepaid upon signing the contract. I asked him for something in writing. He said no.I haven't talked to him since then, but I'm not holding my breath. Lesson Learned: Do some investigating before signing a contract. Professional Fitness and Peak Fitness both have BBB ratings of F.

I have a lady interested in training with me now who was from PEAK and she said she was able to cancel her contract...so it IS possible (especially now that they have no gyms to train people at)... I believe it's $100 though unless the agreement was over $1500 in which case it's like 25% or somethingI think professional fitness is still trying to figure out a way where they can avoid having people get refunds, but it doesn't look like that will be a possibility...I KNOW Lifestyle isn't going to buy those training contracts because none of us would see any of that money.[Edited on June 23, 2009 at 12:58 PM. Mother fracker! now that the Falls of Neuse location is closed, Professional Fitness has a "brand new facility" in which to service it's contracts. "Your Fitness"....the old Peak Fitness on Duraleigh. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was the same owners under a different name.
