well, that first Z3-M got sold a day before I could get to it. I found another one in Wake Forest that I can get for a good price, but it needs a new rear window in the convertible top, and the clearcoat is peeling on 2 of the wheels. I don't know how easy/difficult and costly either of those things are to fix. Never had to deal with either problem.I also have a deal in the works on an S2000. Waiting to see if another potential buyer comes through with more money that I offered. If not, he said it's mine.
7/18/2009 10:18:23 PM
slow2000 borg is growing.
7/18/2009 11:39:10 PM
so.. do you not have a vehicle at the moment?
7/19/2009 12:32:33 AM
no, i have a '95 Ram 2500 and my SV650.
7/19/2009 10:46:34 AM
If I end up getting this S2000 on Wednesday (looking like very good odds that this deal will actually go through), I'll post the details on that other Z3-M if anyone's interested. I got them to agree to a price significantly less than it's advertised at. One of you might want to jump on it.
7/20/2009 10:42:08 PM
if that ram had more than two doors...
7/20/2009 11:02:13 PM
damn you havent found a car in 7 months?
7/20/2009 11:11:42 PM

i like that chevy a lot. my buddy has one with a bored over 454 in it.
7/20/2009 11:42:57 PM
HAHA, back in the fold!Duke, I'm headed down to a Porsche Club of America 2 day track event in Sept. You should bring your S2K
7/21/2009 12:07:26 AM
Duke should have bought Ahmet's 911!
7/21/2009 12:10:01 AM
ha, i don't know if i want to buy anything that Ahmet has owned (although on the other hand, at least it's been properly cared for and well sorted). I'm scared of buying a 911 with that many miles, though (don't remember how many, but I seem to remember it being a lot).plus i just don't want to spend that much right now. i'll get something awesome like that when i'm not deploying regularly.
7/22/2009 10:11:39 PM
7/22/2009 11:03:12 PM
Um, my 911 has under 90k miles w/a factory remanufactured engine (all updated components) that is less than 3 years old... Though my lap times from last weekend are within 4 secs of what I see posted for a 997 GT3 RS, so I am having second thoughts about selling it anyway.Beside that point, have you seen used car prices recently, jeebus things are being given away! I regularly see 996s go for under $20k now, I bet you can find a decent stock one for $18k? Nothing wrong w/the S2k, but I no longer have any interest in them I hear they come alive on track, but I haven't personally had the pleasure of finding out. You should though, check out the CMP thread I just started.
7/22/2009 11:15:28 PM
oh, i thought it had way higher mileage than that. still, i wouldn't want to pay the premium your car would (rightfully) demand. I'd rather just get a newer, cleaner, lower mileage stock one...and to be perfectly honest, I really don't want anything hotter than an S2000 to do my first track days with.
7/22/2009 11:21:25 PM
Yea, but are you really gonna do a track event... If so, S2ks are supposed to be amazing on track anyway, I've heard from many people they wouldn't own one if it wasn't for driving it on track... Otherwise though, man each day that passes, I appreciate my 911 more. It's enjoyable with great A/C, decent stereo, etc. on the street and way more communicative and fun on track than anything else I've owned, not to mention, oh so capable.
7/22/2009 11:39:42 PM
nigga what?
7/26/2009 9:30:03 PM
Any suggestions for a performance camshaft for a 292 Chevy inline-six?Also, I found that Clifford makes a set of oversized valves for it.
8/22/2009 10:44:20 PM
what the hell did you buy now?
8/22/2009 11:00:19 PM
just that '66 Chevy pickup that I got from my grandfather. Also found a decent condition salvage tailgate that my granddad had picked up. One less thing I'll have to buy.Damn, all these little odds and ends parts are going to be expensive. $20 here, $8 there, $200 here, pretty soon you've spent a thousand or two.[Edited on August 22, 2009 at 11:35 PM. Well, there's no reason we can't do the aforementioned head work WITH the big valves...and I don't care about any incremental drop in fuel economy with the bigger cam. I'd rather have the extra grunt--I'm only concerned about losing a lot of low/mid-range in a truck that I want to be able to tow things with.
8/25/2009 5:56:22 PM
Oh is Dan building the motor?
8/25/2009 10:02:51 PM
yep. took a while to get him geared up and on the job, but we pulled the 292 and the transmission on Saturday (and took the engine apart, other than the crank and the cam)[Edited on August 25, 2009 at 10:54 PM. Reason : looks like Isky's 291162 or 291262 cams would be just the ticket.]
8/25/2009 10:48:52 PM
cool
8/25/2009 11:11:37 PM
292 dropped off at Loop Road today. Time to start ordering parts.
9/8/2009 1:11:38 AM
got a line on a slightly used (i.e., installed, took it to the dyno, couldn't get it to run right) dual-Weber setup made by Clifford.
10/5/2009 7:30:11 PM
do it
10/16/2009 12:54:19 PM
Can't get the shop with that setup to pick up the phone or return my calls, so fuck 'em. I don't want to deal with them at all if they're difficult or unreliable. If Clifford will let me return my single quad intake, I'll order a new dual Weber setup from them.I think I'm gonna go with a set of chrome smoothies for wheels. Any opinions on what size? I'm thinking 17". [Edited on November 1, 2009 at 1:35 AM. Reason : ]

Got a Mallory distributor on the way (# 4762801). Can't order wheels, yet...gotta measure the lug pattern when I get back to NC. I think I'll go with 17" Wheel Vintiques smoothies, and put BFG white letters on them.Probably put in the order for chrome front and rear bumpers tomorrow, and a chrome grille (once I find one).I'll order the engine rebuild kit, cam, big valves, timing set, and dual Weber induction next week once I can talk to Clifford and make sure they'll let me return my single-quad intake.I think I'd like to put the optional body trim on it (I think it came on the Custom models)...not on the cab--just on the bed/doors.
11/1/2009 3:50:05 AM
my vehicle plan is coming along...
11/1/2009 12:15:40 PM
haha, what's your master plan these days?
11/1/2009 12:26:44 PM
diesel dually truck- serves towing virtually any distance, wife can still go to grocery storeland rover beater- around town trips, cheap to repair/maintain, great for parts deliveriesland rover trail rig- must haveoldsmobile muscle (sold one, of course kept the other)single car trailer- super useful for buying and parting out trucks, also hauling trail truck to wheeling, olds to track, and land rover beater back when it breaks down
11/1/2009 12:41:03 PM
I usually dont put it in writing

11/2/2009 3:41:35 PM
Hmmm...you really think 17" will be too much?Just ordered the goodies from Clifford: full rebuild kit with .040-over pistons, 270 duration cam...oversized stainless steel valves, Cloyes timing set, and dual Weber (32-36 carbs) induction setup.[Edited on November 2, 2009 at 7:39 PM. Reason : ]

Ouch, going from 16" to 17" in the set of wheels I have my eye on DOUBLES the price. I've tried to go at this from a perspective of "This is not something you are going to ever sell and try to get your money back out of. You can finally afford to do anything you want with it. Given the personal history you have with this one, don't be a cheap bastard--just build the truck you want, and pay what it costs, rather than letting a firm budget or sense of cost-effectiveness dictate things."but damn, I just don't think it's worth an extra $750 to me to run 17s instead of 16s! I'll have to look at a couple other manufacturers and see if I find another wheel I like as much that is more affordable in the 17" size.
11/2/2009 8:35:48 PM
16" tires are cheaper and more plentiful

so my old-skool BMW contact picked up a 1983 R100RT (with about 50k miles) for a friend of his this weekend...rode it back to Raleigh from somewhere in SC. When they got it home and looked through everything more carefully, they found that it still had paperwork from my grandfather's dealership!Apparently the new owner has "a reputation for not keeping anything for very long...cars, wives, or motorcycles, either." I think he's also about 70 years old and with worn-out knees...so it isn't for sale, yet, but it likely will be in the foreseeable future (assuming I don't find another one of my granddad's old bikes first). If I get this one, though, I have to decide whether or not to keep it as a fully-faired dresser, or strip it down and make an old airhead custom out of it? Part of me wants to keep it original, given the history, but part of me says that it's different from my other grandfather's '66 pickup...it's not like I grew up with it and remember it, and want to keep it relatively true to that form.Additionally, if I kept it faired, I'd have a long-haul bike (which I want). On the other hand, I'd really rather have a more modern BMW for doing something like a 2-up, cross-country ride. Of course, that would necessitate having 3 bikes (which is doable)--a race-replica for backroads and track days, an old BMW (to serve no real purpose--just to have it for what it is), and a modern BMW (or maybe something else, for the long hauls).Original, like:or ?I guess, really, if I did something like these with it, it would be good for all but the really longest rides, which realistically I don't have time to do a lot of right now (and even when I do have time, I try to spend it with my daughter...once she starts school, I'll probably only get to have her during the summers and a holiday here and there.)*** I know a lot of you might not care or be interested in any of this. My advice is to not read the thread. There are a ton of other threads on TWW for you to look at, most of which are far, far more pointless than this one. Really, I use this thread partially to ping ideas off of people (sometimes other people have bright ideas I haven't thought of), partially because a few of you actually are interested, and mostly just as a central, organized place to record my thoughts and ideas for later use (or sometimes wondering what in the hell was going through my mind earlier).

i think i saw you in the S2k last night around 8pm i james city? i was in a rush or i would have stopped.
12/2/2009 11:51:25 AM
I like the looks of that bike 3rd up from the bottom. Is there any way to lower it and make it more of a cruiser?
12/2/2009 1:36:02 PM
no
12/2/2009 3:50:19 PM
^^^ yep, I would've been coming home from the gym at that time.^^ maybe, but I hate lowered bikes, and aren't really into cruisers, with a couple of exceptions. That bike is my favorite, too, though.

so...my dad saw me browsing the internet for 911s, and the idea occured to him that he'd like to own one for, say, 6 months. He knows he wouldn't be a long-term 911 driver, but he could have fun with it and get it out of his system by owning one for a little while.Funny thing is, I'm about to deploy for 6 months, and might not mind having a 911 to call my own when I get home (I need to drive one and see for sure).Maybe I should keep an eye peeled for a good deal on a 996-type, where my dad could buy it, then sell it to me for a little less when I get back in the fall...
