He still managed 25 minutes and more time than anyone on our bench, and more time than Tracy Smith. A decent game, but his shooting is still poor. For the season, he's shooting a paltry 38% from the floor, lower than everyone on the team except for Javi, CJ, and Johnny Thomas. His 3-point percentage, once his claim to fame, is much lower at 22%. The only player with a worse 3-point percentage on the team is Johnny Thomas.Horner is also outrebounded by everyone on the team except for guards, despite his 6'9" frame.I like the kid, but there's no reason someone with stats like this gets 25 minutes/game. And it's not a fluke. This year's stats are eerily similar to last years....
1/28/2009 10:52:14 AM
He got more minutes than Smith because smith got in foul trouble. Who do you think should have gotten Horner's minutes?
1/28/2009 11:17:57 AM
^Smith ended the game with 3 fouls.
1/28/2009 11:33:07 AM
^In the 2nd half Smith still only had 3 fouls and Horner was playing over him. Uncalled for.
1/28/2009 11:33:37 AM
Smith was getting SCHOOLED in the second half by Adrian Thomas. Basketball is played on both ends of the court.
1/28/2009 11:35:53 AM
Hahah ok Dennis, I forgot you are our best defender. Are you kidding me? Horner is the worst defender on the team and does nothing but rack up fouls.
1/28/2009 11:37:04 AM
2 blocks. How many blocks did smith have? Smith is also not long enough to rebound against miami. Horner needs to bulk up and he could be a decent backup.
1/28/2009 11:38:40 AM
You're advocating Horner as a better rebounder than Smith? Horner averages .17 rebounds per minute played, while Smith averages .25 rebounds per minute played. For comparison, the only person with better rebounding stats is Ben McCauley...Tracy had 5 rebounds to Horner's 2, etc.And Horner as a better defender than Smith is laughable.
1/28/2009 11:48:41 AM
Smith was getting beat by Thomas that is why he was pulled out in favor of Harris during OT. BTW HORNER AND SMITH DON'T PLAY THE SAME POSITION. I don't know why that is so hard for you dumbfucks to understand. Also in reference to the boards Smith gets the sean may rebounds of putting back in his own misses. However, for the record I think smith has MUCH more potential than Horner but I refuse to throw a guy under the bus when he just comes in and plays hard and doesn't turn the ball over. Defensively he is better AT HIS POSITION than smith is at guarding his.^How many times did graham/collins get a rebound over smith?? Rebounding is all about blocking out and you don't see horner getting rebounded over as much as you do Smith. [Edited on January 28, 2009 at 8:25 PM. Reason : ^adfasd]

Yes they are capable of playing the same system but their "skill" sets are very different. So Mccauley and Costner play the same position? Do all our players play the same position because they are all over 6 feet? There is a difference between forward and center. Smith has absolutely no outside game Horner is supposed to.
1/29/2009 8:13:46 AM
"supposed to".I'm betting Tracy Smith could shoot 20% from 3 too.... Either way, Horner needs far less minutes and Smith needs more. Play Costner more or something.
1/29/2009 11:25:21 AM
1/29/2009 12:13:18 PM
Costner has gone out because of foul trouble. You bring in horner instead of smith because he at least draws defense when he is on the perimeter. That way the post is not clogged up with two bigs trying to operate down there. Also smith has difficulty guarding anyone who has any game outside of the low post.
1/29/2009 1:02:47 PM
I'd rather have Johnny Thomas, CJ Williams, or Simon Harris to "at least draws defense". It's not like you'd be losing rebounds or interior defense....And I'd certainly, certainly rather have Fergie taking those 80 something 3-point shots that Horner has attempted.
1/29/2009 1:41:46 PM
here here...the combination of those subs offer more offense and defense horner could possibly contribute...why is Sid playing this kid?...there is nor reason given his performance this year to play him...must be some political bullshit.
1/30/2009 8:02:55 AM
we shouldn't mess around with rotating horner against UNC...petition for his ass to stay on the bench for tomorrow...or somebody pull a nancy kerrigan on his goofy ass
1/30/2009 8:04:30 AM
YAY DENNIS!!
1/30/2009 10:54:25 PM
^^ So far horner is out producing Smith. Hmmm maybe there is a chance that a coach can evaluate talent better than you. As I said many times smith is not long enough to compete against other centers and has no ball handling or outside skills. He is an undersized center and has been playing like it today.
1/31/2009 4:31:37 PM
pretty solid game for hornerShowed a lot of hustle on the boards and made some basketsnot too shabby
1/31/2009 6:02:23 PM
Horner played well and his pump fake actually worked once.Color me pleasantly surprised.
1/31/2009 6:24:29 PM

1/31/2009 6:39:55 PM
horner had a solid game today. no turnovers either.
1/31/2009 6:41:54 PM
and he's trying to grow sideburns
1/31/2009 6:42:56 PM
It was still another zero day for horner. he fucked up on defense at least as many times as he made a play.Too bad costner and mccauley were playing so badly, we frequently had horner trying to guard hansdouche
1/31/2009 6:52:38 PM

Horner stayed on Hansborough pretty well on defense, at least he never picked up any ticky-tack fouls on him and kept a hand in his face, forcing him to at least make a contested shotit actually worked out ok because they're both fairly big and slow so Horner never really got burnt too bad like usualand I too commend his effort in this game, his play had nothing to do with why we lost[Edited on January 31, 2009 at 7:13 PM. I was shocked he had such a good game. It didn't seem like it while the game was going on. He missed some big shots that could have helped us get back in the game.
1/31/2009 11:10:37 PM
It's because he looks so awkward when he moves. It doesn't look like he should be doing anything well, but then he does and you are shocked.
1/31/2009 11:20:20 PM
awww he is NOT awkward he's cute. even though he does have that tattoo haha
1/31/2009 11:25:05 PM
i think it's crazy to say he missed big shots. I say he sparked a few of the runs that got us back in it. I remember he hit a huge three at the top of the key and one near the bench that was big
1/31/2009 11:31:28 PM
hansborough also takes mainly awkward shots. much like rivers has an awkward pass. who cares when it connects?
1/31/2009 11:34:55 PM
Hans dropped like 30 on him. He didn't play that good. What did yall smoke today?
2/1/2009 2:15:09 AM
b/c we have this awesome player on our team that would've held hansbrough to under 10, just for whatever reason we didn't play him.
2/1/2009 2:18:51 AM
^^ He wasn't the only player guarding handblow but when he did he did get the worse of it. Horner needs to hit the weight room HARD in the off season. He may loose his jump shot but we need some more bulk in the post for next season.
2/1/2009 9:17:08 AM
^He's not going to put any weight on. it would be like coach k trying to turn shavlik randolph into a center -- it completely destroys any game he ever had.Horner needs to work on speed and explosiveness and knutesac, which plays to his perimeter game. He is a wing player, not a center.
2/1/2009 11:08:49 AM
He needs to find his 3 touch again, that's what he was recruited for, to fit Herb's system as a shooterif he dropped a few of those shots, people would actually bite on his pump fake more often
2/1/2009 12:28:58 PM
If he is gonna be a shooter than he needs to stop thinking about it. Whenever he is wide open and the ball is swung to him he always takes a second to think before he shoots. If he would just let it go he would be a lot more accurate. He has good shot mechanics.
2/1/2009 3:45:06 PM
2/1/2009 8:45:52 PM
Yes but we would have really needed a bulky brackman if we hadn't had simmons. We might need someone with some length next year in the post and if he is going to continue to hesitate on his jumper...
2/2/2009 7:56:19 AM
IIRC, brackman put on weight and got worse in year 2.
2/2/2009 8:38:23 AM
Horner has surprised me lately, but he's playing right now like he was playing at the end of his freshman year. We saw where that took him
2/2/2009 9:51:28 AM
I'll be the first to admit that Horner had a decent game. Offensively, he played much better. He still hesitates and plays without aggressiveness, but he showed flashes of his former self and got involved in the offense.Defensively, he had a handful of decent plays and a whole lot of "Horner getting owned" plays...Still, at least it's improvement. He's still playing an inordinately high amount of minutes.....27 against UNC, which was only exceeded by McCauley and Fells. That's right, Horner played more than Costner, Degand, Smith, etc.[Edited on February 2, 2009 at 10:37 AM. Reason : .]
