I'm glad this thread got bumped, I was looking for a place to post this
3/8/2009 9:05:41 PM
great. how long has it been since we played a game in greensboro? Why are we giving their program credibility? Yes I know an NCSU alum is their coach but seriously, it's like playing ECU in football. It doesn't do us any good to go there and play a game. Gives them an advantage that could be disastrous for us.
3/8/2009 9:16:57 PM
I'm not usually inclined to jump all over the Fire Fowler bandwagon, but good lord I hate some of our scheduling decisions.
3/8/2009 9:27:15 PM
3/8/2009 9:29:18 PM
i dont think the game in Greensboro should be a big dealDuke went in there to play them a few yrs ago (i know Duke isn't a litmus test for making a good schedule, but going there shouldn't be what gets your panties in a wad over Fowler...there are lots of other items on that)
3/8/2009 9:30:41 PM
"i dont think the game in Greenville should be a big deal"
3/8/2009 9:50:11 PM
An RPI-away game that triad-area NC State fans can easily attend doesn't sound that bad
3/8/2009 9:56:30 PM
3/8/2009 10:04:41 PM
It should be noted that the director of basketball operations is the primary schedule maker, not Lee Fowler.
3/8/2009 10:18:19 PM
It should also be noted that the director of basketball operations was hired by Lee Fowler

^^Nope^Yep[Edited on March 8, 2009 at 11:27 PM. Reason : ]
3/8/2009 11:26:31 PM
I'm not thinking of anyone.Dude was talking about scheduling UNCG and said their coach is an alum.
3/8/2009 11:31:15 PM
it was directed at coppertop
3/8/2009 11:45:40 PM
so, what would you recommend? who to replace him? who to hire if you had his position... and dont give me stupid shit like Pete Carroll and Rick Pitino
3/8/2009 11:49:27 PM
Yup, j_sun is right, I got confused. I don't have a problem with the area/venue for the triad, but I just don't think its a good idea to play an in state mid-major opponent on their court.
3/8/2009 11:50:58 PM
^^Charlie Cobb.I say this every time this is discussed. He is an alum, played football here, and has a great 1-AA program at App State.
3/8/2009 11:52:28 PM
^i think that would be a good choice. he was a member of the athletics dept. staff here from 1998-2005 prior to taking the AD job at app. st.

signed Fire Lee Fowler!!
3/9/2009 2:08:36 PM
Yea the director of basketball ops is hired by the coach.
3/9/2009 2:15:19 PM
some high rolling boosters contacted the consulting firm i work for to do an assessment of our athletics program - and really, all they wanted us to do was justify firing fowler. we didn't take the work because, well, we're not in the "justify firing someone" business, but it showed that there is some serious angst out there among the boosters.
3/9/2009 3:51:05 PM
^ all they have to do is consult tdub.... And it won't cost them a dime!!
3/9/2009 3:55:06 PM
Regardless of who hires the Director of Basketball Operations, it should be up to Lee Fowler to dictate scheduling philosophy across all sports, which should include not playing non-conference basketball games at places like UNC-Greensboro.
3/9/2009 4:49:33 PM
It's not at UNC-G. It's against UNC-G in Greensboro Coliseum.
3/9/2009 5:11:16 PM
signed.
3/9/2009 5:22:16 PM
^^ Beginning in 2009-10, that's going to be their home court.]
3/9/2009 5:23:32 PM
I see. I guess that means it's definitely an RPI-away game. Why would we not ever want to play UNC-G at the Coliseum?

There are plenty of reasons to fire Fowler...playing a game at UNCG isnt one of them. In the past two seasons, weve had FSU at Jacksonville, UNC at UC-Santa Barbara, Georgia Tech at Mercer and Tennessee State, Clemson at Charlotte and ECU, Wake Forest at ECU, Virginia Tech at Old Dominion, and Maryland at Charlotte.Plus I dont think our basketball team is in any position to be "too good" to play anyone.
3/11/2009 6:19:04 AM
^I agree, and UNC-G? Sounds like an opportunity to be severely embarrassed again. When was the last time they beat an ACC team?[Edited on March 11, 2009 at 9:26 AM. Reason : -]
3/11/2009 9:13:57 AM
^They beat Georgia Tech either last year or the year before.Kyle Hines was a beast....
3/11/2009 9:37:29 AM
Good. No pressure then.
3/11/2009 9:50:59 AM
We beat them this year 79-52. Nov 30th at home.
3/11/2009 10:43:09 AM
3/11/2009 10:43:11 AM
Because basketball courts vary from stadium to stadium
3/11/2009 10:59:44 AM
^x10 it was back in september, so before basketball season got cranked up. it came right after that "don of donations" article came out in the WSJ. sentiment was "well, if the WPC is so great at raising money, we should have better programs...thus, fowler must be doing something wrong..." and i tend to agree...
3/11/2009 4:02:25 PM
How old is Fowler? Any chance of retirement? Hitting the life expectancy age? Seems like the only way we'll be rid of him.Who am I kidding. You could amass a list of all star directors, coaches, assistant coaches, players, etc. and we would still suck. Here's to another year/decade/age/whatever of suckage.
3/12/2009 9:23:32 PM
Maybe Fowler will lose his job due to the recession.
3/12/2009 9:28:47 PM
Somebody just needs to tell Oblinger to get off his ass and fire the son of a bitch.
3/12/2009 9:30:41 PM
