Yes, exactly, in fact, why the fuck don't we just starting singing the fucking NC State fight song during the national anthem???? That'll show 'em that we don't give a fuck about our country! Fuck all the soldiers that died for me so that I could have the freedom to even choose to be a State fan! WE'RE ALL ABOUT NC STATE RIGHT? WHO'S WITH ME!
12/22/2008 10:55:44 PM
why dont we cancel all sports and instead have everyone sing patriotic songs all day
12/22/2008 10:56:26 PM
(i was pointing out that kennedy said that, not macarthur... unless macarthur coined it in private first)
12/22/2008 10:59:08 PM
they do it at the hurricanes games... and pretty much anything that is held in the RBC center.seriously... get over it.im middle eastern, and i find it funny.pussies.
12/22/2008 11:01:22 PM
No, this will be good. I'll show up for the Loyola game and it will go like this: A soloist will start singing the national anthem.. "O say can you see.."Meanwhile, I'll queue the student section to simultaneously start singing the NC State fight song "We're the Red and White from State.."Other fans might look at us, but we don't give a fuck - we support the Pack. Fuck the rest of the country and whatever they stand for.
12/22/2008 11:01:52 PM
yeah... what has this country done for the wolfpack?NOTHING.
12/22/2008 11:03:55 PM
This has already been gone over in years past. OMG WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE WHO BASTARDIZE THE ANTHEM AND USE IT TO SHOW THERE SINGING "PROWESS" WE SHOULD STRING THEM UP!!! THEY AREN'T AS AMERICAN AS ME!!! I SPEW PATRIOTISM OUT OF MY PORES BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN GOD AND AMERICA. you are a bunch of self righteous pricks.
12/22/2008 11:04:04 PM
i agree with you that we should cancel all sports since they promote being a fan of a team other than the united states of america
12/22/2008 11:04:21 PM
12/22/2008 11:42:08 PM
if you have a problem with us doing this then you are insecure about your patriotismjust tell your founding fathers in your head before you do it you aren't disrespecting america... i don't think they will hold it against you
12/22/2008 11:47:50 PM
theres supposed to be separation of church and stateit doesnt say anything about separation of state and state

RED
12/23/2008 12:27:24 AM
The Student WPC isn't exactly a bastion of intelligence, or creativity with cheers. The McCants cheer my freshman year was incredibly lame but "way worth it man" because McCants was "so surprised"....and then he torched us. Shouting "RED" is classless but a minor offense as far as I'm concerned with these maladjusted folks. It's also breeds a mob mentality, you know, one toolbag doing it turns into two, four, and so on, but by all means keep doing it while citing freedom of speech or whatever else you want to use so the rest of us can use you as the posterchild for how you don't want your kids to turn out. It's always good to cite the constitution over something this trivial. But like I said, the shouting of RED is a drop in the bucket to what some of our students take part in publicly to try and draw attention.

forceAll American1829 Postsuser infoedit post Most people who do it either have never had to make a sacrifice for their country, or don't know someone who has. It seems more like a HS level thing to do than college. It's more immature than disrespectful to me.My dad works for the federal government....I am patriotic as hell and I always yell red if i am in already...but normally I am not in by then....get over it.
12/23/2008 12:53:47 AM
While I do think the "home of the wolfpack" thing is super lame, my reasons are because the cadence is fucking WRONG. Brave = 1 SyllableWolfpack = 2 SyllablesI mean, really, if you are going to defile the anthem at least make it fit into the context of the song.just sayin'
12/23/2008 1:11:09 AM
(it's just a song, it doesn't actually mean shit. nationalism is for chodes)
12/23/2008 1:44:30 AM
home of the WOLFPACK just sounds terrible in general, especially with the incredible coordination of drunk people.
12/23/2008 3:08:58 AM
i noticed this the other day...maybe at a canes game? it was college night...anyways i thought it was kinda rude myself...good thread...

If you think I'm rude for doing this -- you would be horrified at other things I do.

What about the fact we have other flags flying in our AMERICAN arena "GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH WHAT WILL WE DO STRING EM UP THEY AIN'T PATRIOT ENOUGH"

LetsTAILGATE - Trust me I am over it, and I don't lose sleep over it either, it's just in my opinion an immature thing to do.

I chant RED because I support Fort McHenry getting attacked... because I was there... totally.
12/23/2008 9:05:46 AM
what a bunch of whiny little babies.if you take offense to it because you're in the military or because you know someone in the military, you're a fucking pussy. I would think that people who have fought for our country have more important shit to do than cry over a few words. You sound like a bunch of fucking liberals.

I find it more disrespectful that our National Anthem is sung to the tune of a British drinking song.
12/23/2008 11:26:37 AM
^^ do you have any concept of how little nc state costs to attend? clearly it is not "free", but it is very inexpensive. you're probably the same person that writes to the technician about $35 fee increases.
12/23/2008 11:32:23 AM
whats the technician?

My JROTC teacher in hs used to bitch about how whenever people sang the anthem they would stretch out the "land of the free and home of the brave" part and that it was disrespectful. He said that was like making a flag with 60 stars and 15 stripes, it's not how it's supposed to be.I think if I actually cared about it, I would find it most disrespectful that Key's poem was set to the tune of the Anacreontic Song. But this is America, you have a right to be pissed off about it and we (the RED and Wolfpack screamers) have a right to not give a shit.
12/23/2008 12:46:14 PM
Anger
12/23/2008 12:54:55 PM
other people do it at other sporting events, so that makes me feel justified in doing it too/sarcasm

This business with the anthem isn't just about patriotism and respect and stuff. Our university specifically has been criticized for the anthem-altering practice. We've been singled out...when every school in the United States is made up of the same irreverent kids that go to State. We don't have a super awesome PR machine like Carolina or Duke to fight the nonsense that gets said about us though. That's why I kinda agree with the dude on the first page who said he didn't think much of it until some dick from ECU tried to make a big deal out of it, and the N/O promoted that dick's ideas by fucking printing them. It's bad enough that the Sports section is run by Chapel Hill/ECU graduates, but do we really need to let those cocksuckers spread hate in every other section of our local paper?Anyway, the anthem criticisms are just another tiny movement in a disorganized but massive conspiracy against our university, our athletics, and our fans. They will always find something they don't like about us. If we said the anthem properly in exchange for some sort of guarantee that we might finally get a fair shake, then I'd be all for it. But nobody would ever guarantee that...NC State, arranged as the whipping boy, the fall guy, the scapegoat, is just too perfect for folks to give up.So fuck 'em.

After not reading any of this thread, I would like to add (probably restate) that I find it particularly silly that the only time I ever hear the national anthem is at sporting events. They seem like to very disparate things - patriotism and indulgence in the one thing that absolutely DOESN'T matter in the grand scheme of things ... sports.I take my hat off during it as to respect people around me, not necessarily just the United States. The United States doesn't care. But I also take my hat off indoors. And I yell "red," because I think it sounds cool.

12/23/2008 4:31:51 PM
NM^The worst thing about 9/11 is it made it cool to be patriotic. Other sporting events do shit during the national anthem and are not attacked by the media we were so it is a touchy subject. I don't care if you don't like it and neither do the people that do it /thread[Edited on December 23, 2008 at 4:35 PM. Reason : [Edited on December 23, 2008 at 4:42 PM. Reason : asdfasdf]

12/23/2008 8:42:55 PM
^ which is what I have said... for the 6th time, no one has said anything about forcing someone to not do it, just said that they felt like people shouldn't do itI think people should have the right to burn the American flag, but that doesn't mean that I think they SHOULD do it.People keep confusing the argument [Edited on December 23, 2008 at 9:11 PM.
