I think its a career well suited to the job. Reagan was an actor (not that he actually knew anything about anything though).

Honestly I don't have a problem with electing a comedian.... an important component to good political humor is some degree of common sense and truth...

What I have a problem with is electing Al Franken.

^Agreed, wholeheartedly.

Jon Stewart and Lewis Black, for instance, are both self-admitted borderline-socialists. For God's sake, elect them instead. Just not Al Franken. Please, Christ, not Al Franken.

it's not too surprising though. I know people that get all their news from The Daily Show.

it makes me weep for my country

To play devils advocate, and I'm sure this has been brought up before... He graduated cum Laude from Harvard in poly sci. It could mean his mom has a nice chunk of change, but i suspect it was because he went to class. I don't know anything about his political beliefs, but I'll bet he does, and has somewhat more of a head on his shoulders than paris hilton.

i'd say to a certain extent franken's celebrity worked against him.

franken is definitely an informed person. his celebrity helped him to get into the primary race certainly. but in the general election, i think it probably hurt as much as it helped him. he had to basically prove that he was serious about his campaign again and again.

also he ran a great campaign.

look at some of the ads on this post:

just because I think that this is ridiculous doesn't mean I don't think the others are not as well

I mean... if I had a political mind in the late 70's I too would think it would be absurd for a B-movie actor to become president of the united states.

Ha, yeah, this is what I'm wondering. Do you have to have been in a legal profession of some kind first? Do you need to have been in government? What say you, oh wise political strategist?

As has been pointed out, Franken is a smart, snappy, witty guy with plenty of credentials. He'll make a fine Senator, if you agree with his politics

Here's a true story written by a friend of mine about the time, as the link makes clear, Al Franken turned her in for child neglect.

The pussy, duh...

but seriously TKEshultz...
STFU
I am a card-carrying libertarian. (I hate liberals more than you.)
And yet I, as should you, recognize that Franken is WELL qualified for the Senate.
I loathe his liberal agenda. He is a socialist douchebag when it comes to policy.
But he is more than qualified to hold office. Shut the goddamn fuck up already.

improper and incorrect inference

im not getting any payback

he was not my hero and i was skeptical about him as anyone in the 2nd term

but the opposing side kept their mouth running for 8 years, so i will too until 2012 when his term is done

when he deserves it, i will call him out
