As much as I am enjoying the cheap gas, I am inclined to agree with that article. If they taxed the shit out of it and kept it relatively expensive (not outrageous like it was a few months ago, but I'm thinking somewhere around 3 bucks a gallon), use would go down as people would be more likely to try and limit consumption.
12/20/2008 2:22:17 PM
Yes, let's tax gas while we are in the midst of a bad recession. Brilliant!
12/20/2008 2:32:21 PM
^best time to do it! Means more to people.

1/7/2009 12:37:18 PM
Yah, oil was nearing $50 a barrel earlier this week, but it's back down to 45 today I believe.
1/7/2009 12:42:55 PM
gas is 1.75 reg. 1.99 premium today at sheetz.

I dont understand crude oil prices vs gas prices...when crude oil was at $47ish a barrel, gas prices here were around $1.53. Crude oil continued to drop all the way down to around $37ish a barrel with no change in gas prices...however, crude oil went back up to around $47ish a barrel this week and gas went up 7 cents...I'm sure it's a lot of complicated shit I dont understand.

^^^Here's my take on it:Selling at a loss or reduced margins is more of a motivation to change one's prices than selling at inflated margins. The cost of the next refilling influences prices pretty much immediately when the motion is upward, whereas the inflated margins buffer somewhat against competition when the motion is downward.[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 1:43 PM. shitty gas mileage. new girl who lives in another town, work in another town, softball games in another town = i spend way too much fucking money on gas.but my truck is paid off...so what to do?
6/4/2013 3:02:41 PM
Fuck. New car goes 500 miles on a tank but that's because it has a 21 gallon tank. I shouldn't complain about 25mpg mixed driving on midgrade, but I will. Can't wait until the SO swaps in the 5 speed and changes the differential.
6/4/2013 3:02:58 PM
Do you need a truck? See if you can trade it in and get a used car. Or get a motorcycle. I'll be driving mine more now that it's summer. 60mpg isn't bad from a bike I paid $500 for.
6/4/2013 3:05:43 PM
6/4/2013 4:19:48 PM
i don't need a truck. but it's quite luxurious.

Station wagon? Can haul almost as much crap, but mine is getting 25mpg with a fairly significant vacuum leak. Hope that hose comes in soon.

a stock mazda 3 is an econobox...but the mazdaspeeds, miatas, 6s..are notyou cant just call a whole brand econobox..(i mean, unless you're an idiot)(my econobox)[Edited on June 4, 2013 at 6:30 PM. Reason : asdfaf3]

the mazda 6 is 100% econobox; ford fusion, camry, accord, etc. they aren't luxury, they aren't performance, they aren't utility, they're economy cars.
6/6/2013 9:12:58 AM
You will need the truck if you sell it. Shit always happens. Don't get rid of it
6/6/2013 9:58:11 AM
$2.34 to fill up my tank gets me about 75 miles

Way to make a strong statement..bringing up a Camry as a performance option. (No matter what engine it has)By definition..the 6 isn't an econobox. ""The typical econobox is a subcompact car, usually with a three-door hatchback format with transverse engine mounting and front-wheel drive, to maximize interior space despite overall small dimensions. They are usually outfitted with vinyl bucket seats, basic AM radio, a rudimentary heater, foam-cushioned plastic trim, two-speed wipers and painted steel rims with a chromed wheel nut cap.""I never claimed the 6 was fast or sporty..but good on you for rolling straight up my asshole with that Camry bs. I'm seriously impressed with your knowledge on cars and especially your googling skillsTurn on speed channel and you can enjoy the beauty of the econobox 6 racing around a track for the next couple hours..[Edited on June 6, 2013 at 9:01 PM.
