Brees could break one of Marino's records this year. That's pretty ridiculous. All Rivers had to do today was score above 22 points. I didn't say the loss fell squarely on his shoulders...but at 4-8, the starting QB has to have a little accountability.
11/30/2008 11:04:20 PM
All Brees had to do was score above 23 points, instead he threw 3 interceptions.
11/30/2008 11:13:30 PM
^ you are still wrong. Brady not considered, Brees is the best QB in the league right now.
11/30/2008 11:17:26 PM
if you have watched the chargers at all this year, you know for a FACT that rivers gets almost no blame for that record. after watching that team for 12 games you can't really blame rivers or lt, or an o-line that continually gets blown up, or the worst defense in the league. ted cottrell might have been part of the problem, but the main problem is norv turner. it starts and ends with norv. he's been a failure everywhere he has been a head coach.

more passing yards through 12 games than any other QB in NFL history...maybe his defense just sucks ass (which they do)

But less games than many other QB's, like Eli, Collins, Garcia, and friggin Jake Delhomme. So games matter to a certain point, after that it's all stats? And who decides which team has more talent? Rivers has talented recievers and a great TE, but his offensive line blows. LT was talented, but now he's mediocre. Merriman is a very talented player, but he's hurt. We thought Cromartie was talented, but he apparently fooled us all.

Ben "Makes due" with only 1 more TD than INT.Rivers gets average pass protection. He's right in the middle of the league with 19 sacks, Brees has 10 sacks.Again, if you put that much weight on record, how can you have Brees at the top spot?
12/1/2008 12:20:03 AM
the chargers do not have a top-5 receiving corp. you're fooling yourself if you think that. and the chargers o-line has been god awful all year. the pass protection has gotten worse over the course of the season. big ben makes due because he has the best defense in the NFL.

here's my top 10 -- they're ranked via a non-scientific method based on how i feel they are currently performing, what their career legacy has been thus far, their impact on their respective teams, and their level of execution on offensive plays and managing the game:PeytonWarnerFavreBreesRiversRomoEliGarciaMcNabbCutlerHonorable Mention:Big BenFuture Mainstays on List:Aaron RodgersMatt Ryan

These rankings are for this year so Tom Brady will be excluded. I also haven't really looked at the stats of any of these guys but I watch a lot of football and from what I've seen these are my top 10:1.)Drew Brees2.)Eli Manning3.)Kurt Warner4.)Peyton Manning5.)Tony Romo6.)Phillip Rivers7.)Matt Ryan8.)Jay Cutler9.) Aaron Rodgers10.) Big Benand no I didn't forget Farve.

another reason tony choke homo shouldnt be on this list.
12/7/2008 7:45:06 PM
i would pick the qb with the best stats for my hypothetical team because i would also pick the other positions with the best stats for my hypothetical team
12/7/2008 9:31:45 PM
how are y'all putting tony homo on the list when he was out for a month with a BROKEN PINKY?
12/9/2008 5:41:49 AM
How can anyone not like Tony Romo?
12/9/2008 8:39:16 AM

For all of the people saying Tony Romo shouldn't be on the list who should take his place??
12/9/2008 10:28:00 AM
^^I'd probably switch the two now. But Ben still gets probably some of the worst pass protection in the league...and he did lead his team back against the Cowboys this weekend. And New Orleans is two games ahead of San Diego and Brees has him by almost 1,000 yards in the stats. That being said...I might jump Peyton ahead of Warner and Brees now. The man is stepping up even more as the season goes along.

I think Rivers is being hurt by the perception that San Diego is much better then they actually are. LT just isn't LT, where the hell is Antonio Gates? WR's are average.. defense lost its spark. They just never recovered from some of their early season bad luck(thanks refs!) With that said here would be my list, as of today, just going by gut(bored at work). 1. Brees - I just like him, big numbers, dealt this year with a lot of injuries and bad defense. I mean considering best WR out at times, TE out at times, and RB's in and out.. 2. P Manning - Statistically not his best year obviously, but he is still Manning and they are winning. 3. Warner - Big numbers, great talent around him but there were QBs there before him with that talent that didn't do what he is doing. He is only 80 yards behind Brees.4. Rivers - Said it in another above, I think the team around him is terrible and overrated. LT is a shadow of himself this year, WR are average, Gates having a down year.. He still has 26 tds and only 10 picks. 5. E Manning - Would be higher until this week when he was doing the typical "manning pouty face" You know the one I'm talking about. I hate the giants, so I'm bias here if you want to argue him higher then fine but I think he had been playing over his head for a lot of this year and his real self is something between this past weekend and the weeks earlier. 6. Jay Cutler - Although he is inconsistent at times, I think he is the best QB in the league 2 years from now. He has great numbers this season though. 7. Tony Homo - I don't even actually want him this high, but when he is on he is a great qb. Problem is when he is off he is a turnover machine and puts his team in positions to lose by trying to make to many risky plays. 8. McNabb - When healthy and having fun he is a great QB(and has been the last 2 weeks). Would be nice if they could get some receivers with talent around him that weren't headcases.9. Matt Ryan - Rookie on a team people thought would take years to recover and has them looking good. Maybe the best rookie QB season ever.10. Pretty tough, I'd say Favre but he has looked bad lately, Big Ben I do like but he has eh numbers and a great defense helping him. Cassel, Pennington, Rogers... Gonna go with Cassel at #10 although prob just a toss up to me between all of these guys. Meh, feel free to tell me I'm an idiot, but this managed to kill 10 minutes for me at work so a win for me either way.[Edited on December 9, 2008 at 11:57 AM. Bump for Eli's great performance tonight!^Can't believe I didn't see this list before. Romo at 7 after Cutler? Cutler isn't near top 10.
12/15/2008 12:19:36 AM
When I made that list it was after Romo was coming off a game looking terrible, and Cutler had a few good games in a row. He also looked good early this season, and I think he will continue to get better. He played terrible today. He is in my top 10, I don't mind you arguing my list, but at the least write something to try to back it up. After this week my list would probably change again. I'd have Cassel much higher, he was impressive today all things considered.
12/15/2008 12:47:56 AM
All the people saying Big Ben rides a running game and a great defense to victories but still have Favre on their lists perplex me.. Besides one game in which he threw 6 touchdowns Favre has been plain average at best, he belongs on no top 10 list at all; I'd rank him and Jake Delhomme in the same territory
12/15/2008 1:19:31 AM

Flacco over RW??
11/9/2014 12:52:38 AM
I meanSeattle is 30th in passing offense, Flacco has more yards, more touchdowns, doesn't have a top-5 defense, etcWilson wasn't a top-10 QB last year either. Helps when you have an elite defense and an All Pro running back.
11/9/2014 1:04:28 AM
I really don't buy luck that high. He hasn't had his bye yet so his numbers look a game better than most of the rest, but he's thrown like 90 more times than the next guy. And he has like twice the turnovers. He's very good, and because of his age I'd take him to start a team, but just for this year I'd probably put him like 4th or 5th. Def not mvp material

^^^Ok I'll revise my list. Rodgers is definitely #1 and Brady is clearly above Peyton. and lol at Palmer. The Cardinals' offense is better without him. And lol at Wilson being in the top 10.[Edited on November 16, 2014 at 4:49 PM. Reason : .]
11/16/2014 4:48:29 PM
RW is currently 11th in the NFL in rushing yards. That's gotta count for something, right?
11/16/2014 4:53:06 PM
I'm just going to point out that Russell Wilson's best weapon is Doug Baldwin. He's like a better version of Alex Smith. They both helm running offenses, but Wilson has got more upside and is a better passer.I know they lost today, and I'm a Chiefs fan, but Wilson is one of the better QBs in the league. It's unfortunate that Palmer got hurt, you can obviously pull him off the list now, but who would you replace him with? After Brady, Peyton, Rodgers, Luck there's a step down to a second tier. That second tier is basically Rivers, Romo, Stafford, and Big Ben in some order, and then there's another step down to a bunch of decent guys. You can start throwing up Wison, Alex Smith, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and the like, but after the top 6 or 7 dudes is basically a crap shoot as far as how you rank the next 8.[Edited on November 16, 2014 at 4:58 PM.
