There's nothing B-movie about the dialogue, and the plot is just as much Kelly's Heroes as it is The Inglorious Bastards.

SPOILER

so I guess the "Jew Hunter" character never knew that the cinema owner girl = Shoshanna or whatever.

I mean they had us thinking that he knew but never closed that one up.

END SPOILER LAWL

Saw it this afternoon. I enjoyed it. I knew that it was going to be very dialog driven, but i had no idea there was going to be so many subtitles. I wasn't put off by them by any means, i just wasn't expecting it. I will probably end up seeing it again, and like someone stated above this movie doesn't feel like a near 3-hour movie at all.

GOR-LOMI lol

SPOILERS

^I think he definitely knew, hence why he ordered her the glass of milk. But it had been 3 years later and she was involved with Goebbels and Zoller's premiere so i assume he just dropped it. I imagine had the night gone as planned he would have ended up outing her at a later time.

If he did know thats pretty unrealistic. he barely saw her face, she was running and was relatively far from him at the time, and three years had passed. would you recognize the face of someone you barely caught a glimpse of three years later

The whole scene in the tavern might have been my favorite part.

The movie needed more Hugo Stiglitz.

* SPOILERS *

haha oh man i was just getting ready to come in here and post that hugo stiglitz was cracking me up sitting next to that german . . . i've never seen such disgust

i loved the tavern scene as well but my fav part was shosanna getting projected onto the smoke from the film laughing. that gave me chills - looked like the wizard of oz or something

* END SPOILERS *

i loved the way when people got shot their blood stirred in with the dust and swirled around - tarantino is the master of violence and i obviously love violence

i thought it was kind of ironic that this movie centered around a german propaganda film while this movie glorifies america in a way

is that why cannes hated it so much?

I believe that Goebbles was the only one that was officially supposed to be at the theater. A shitload of Nazi security would have only alerted the Allies/spies that Hitler may actually be in the building. The only spot where I agree about security was outside where the black dude locked up the exits. Not sure why there would be a few guards posted there.

I know that's a fairly week argument, but it is a flick, and it entertained the hell out of me.Oo

I assume a scene got cut, which isn't surprising with Tarantino. Reminds me of the member of the Dirty Dozen that you never see die, yet is absent at the end of the movie.

Apparently Eli Roth directed "Pride of a Nation" and the whole thing in it's entirety is supposed to be on the DVD. It should be a real treat for anyone who's seen "Triumph of the Will".

fuck it...let's re do this WHOLE post.

^^I asked on page 2, and that's the only thing I can come up with as well. I don't recall Novak in the basement or the vet's office discussing the new plan to put him somewhere near the vacinity of the theatre...so can't be plot hole. Prolly just a deleted scene.

You know B.J. Novak is a writer and executive producer of "The Office" among other things, right? Having a bit part in a movie isn't the end of his career or anything. Same goes for Eli Roth.

I don't think it was a plot hole when you consider that the head of security did place dynamite under Hitler's (or was it Goebbels?) chair and ultimately made a deal with the allies. The lack of security was merely an indication that Landa's actions that night were premeditated. Personally, I think that he began to formulate a plan either during or after his meeting with Shoshanna, and that he did in fact know who she was.

Here's my question...

Why did the actress have to die? Yes she is a traitor, but he was about to be one as well.

I think he did know the cinema owner was the Jewish girl, and let it happen because he knew what was up and wanted to be written in history as a hero. I get that. But he already knew what he was doing and still killed the actress. Why?

All the talk abot BJ Novak made me think about something else...I understand that NBC and Universal are partners, but every single trailer before the movie had at least one cast member from 30 Rock, the Office, or Heroes. It is a little rediculous how they double-cast to promote both (in fact, they satired that on 30 Rock having Jenna do the Janis Joplin movie).

I had A Christmas Carol trailer...

I think you're being a little paranoid here. The office, 30 rock, and Heroes have some pretty hot stars right now, its kind of ridiculous to paint this as a conspiracy.

After making a deal with the Allies maybe he wanted to be the German turncoat in the official story instead of her and got rid of her to help that.

IMO Landa and the Basterds were perfectly suited for the amoral landscape that Tarantino created. The actress on the other hand was a character with some ideological commitment to one side and ultimately had to be eliminated as part of the story. Besides, having Landa strangle a woman immediately before making his offer reminds you that he's a total douche so you don't have any sympathy when he gets carved up at the end.

In regards to knowing that the Jewish girl ran the cinema, he wasn't SS anymore and it was no longer his job to hunt jews. Maybe he didn't feel the need to expose her in his new position. Regardless, I don't worry about it too much as they only met once to introduce her motivation.

we are in the buisness of killing nazis, and buisness is a boomin'

This movie was surprisingly offensive to Germans. There was not one decent German character in the film, and most of them are portrayed as panzy little Jew haters that can't take NO for an answer, and they will go cry to mama if they don't have it their way.

That being said, it was an amazing film. It should be in the running for best of the year.

Who? Hitler and Goebbels?
Landa said that he didn't hate the jews, he was just good at finding people so he did what he did.
Zoller looked like a douche at the end, but that may have just been a reflection of his arrogance and growing fame.
The majority of them were just normal people like the major in the bar, the survivor from the first massacre who got carved up, and the guy out celebrating his kid being born.

I'd argue that it makes the americans look even worse as they spend the whole of the movie executing prisoners, bludgeoning people to death and scalping dead germans. I could even say that Shosanna was worse than any of the germans as her entire goal was to murder a movie theater full of strangers.

All of the main characters are awful people. That's what makes it a fun movie.

She was trying to kill the leaders of an organization that was systematically killing off her people, had murdered her family in front of her, and had tried to kill her. I think she probably gets a pass on killing strangers.

I liked it a lot. I was surprised that Daniel Brühl would take that role though. He was perfect, but I felt that he must have been terribly offended by the end product.

Christoph Waltz needs to win something for that performance.

the smaller venue eliminates those who weren't loyal too the party. Zoeller's speech to Goebbels in the restaurant pretty much seals that whoever is there its ok for the audience to hope and cheer for their death. also the pointing out Nazi high command as the Basterds walk to their seats serves the same purpose

In the scene in the vets office where von Hammersmark is getting patched up theres a dead dog with a bullet hole in one of the cages. I'm wondering if that's part of a deleted scene.
