I wish I had friends with G1 so the social features/apps were more useful.

how does your GPS work in non-3G coverage? Mine never gets a location fix if i'm in a car, keeps telling me to try moving around

My GPS works like crap too. I just found a bunch of new really good apps. That Chomp SMS app is great because of the virtual keyboard. There are also a lot of new games.

so whats the deal with cupcake (RC31)? It was supposed to be pushed out the end of January and to feature battery-saving updates as well as the on-screen keyboard and browser auto-rotate? anybody got it or heard about the effects or possibility of "rolling back" to RC31 from RC33?

It wasn't supposed to be out end of January there was a lot of speculation due to them making a separate branch in the repository. I've built the cupcake branch off their GIT repository and it's pretty long way off. T-mobile may choose to add the functionality or not when it's officially polished enough for release. Also they didn't add autorotate, that was a third party build. i just used the gps on an edge network extensively during a business trip to bumfuck ohio this week and it worked just finetakes a while to initially locate, but after that, no worrieshowever, driving to snowshoe last weekend was a different story, but i guess i cant expect anything to work when you dont have a data signal

THIS IS WHY THE IPHONE WINS OKhehe..jk, the original "maps" app doesnt store the maps locally but some of the ones in the app store do..so yea, they work in bum fuck anywhere without any signal at all.

I wrote a little app to do searches on the SD card to delete files. It's called DeleteSD. Everyone voted it down because the files were being deleted when they click delete. See if I publish my own utilities again

Everyone still liking this phone? I need to get something in the next year and really like the Android idea and think eventually its going to be fantastic. I'm disjointed that the GPS sucks so much though right now.

I loved my phone, but after cupcake... holy shit. WHAT ARE YOUR FAV APPS? GAMES?
6/4/2009 3:56:37 PM
yeah, i got the cupcake update over the air a few days ago, man i new changeswhat sucks is that this update must've killed the power manager app, and the one on the market is just a trial, which blows

cupcake update is awesome.. scrolling is so much easier now.favorite app: CTA bus tracker

Thinking about getting one of these. Verizon has pissed me off for the last time.I already have an iPod Touch, so I don't want to get an iPhone. This thing looks like just the ticket.

^ the G1 is incredible... however, as much as I drool over my phone there are more android devices rolling out that may/may not have more internal RAM. THis could be an issue for future builds like Hero. If you are not familiar with Hero... do a youtube search for android hero and be prepared to want that shit.check outandroidandme.com[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 5:44 PM. Reason : aerg]
