as for p2w clearance, i will have to check the spec sheet, but i will be using wiseco's recommendations for all clearances (ring gap, etc).

4/29/2010 7:28:22 PM
i also picked up some brake parts from a 16v scirocco today.. bigger discs in the front and the m/c i need to put the discs in the rear. along with knuckles that actually fit (i had to grind a bit for axle clearance)
4/29/2010 7:30:07 PM
yesterday i started prepping the parts for the brake upgrade.also sent payment for some go-fast parts today.. 4 to be exact.[Edited on May 18, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Reason : these two pics are kinda counterintuitive. they won't both be used at the same time.]
5/18/2010 12:59:33 PM
lol they could be.... you could cut 4 more holes in that intake manifold.
5/18/2010 2:21:10 PM
i haven't posted in here in a while, so here are some pics from the past few weeks
6/25/2010 11:34:46 PM
oh it's clean
6/25/2010 11:47:07 PM
for now
6/28/2010 3:56:44 PM
nice
6/28/2010 4:28:12 PM
i should be able to make some good progress now. finally cleared out a space in the shop, so it will start getting torn apart this week.
6/28/2010 4:58:09 PM
a little more work done. got the drivetrain pulled and stripped down, the brakes swapped (still need to do the lines and pads)
7/4/2010 7:07:30 PM
havent updated in a while... i picked up some epoxy primer today. over the past weekend i pulled the PS fender, the grill, headlights, bumper.. been wire wheeling, with most of my latest efforts focused on removing the undercoating from the wheel well (only been working on passenger side so far). i feel a little stupid removing all the paint and undercoating, only to reapply, but i did find a little rust in the wheel well last night at the top of the strut tower that needs attention. it is not bad, but i'm glad i caught it when i did.
7/14/2010 2:30:32 PM
nice work
7/14/2010 3:46:32 PM
some progress...
7/20/2010 9:22:27 PM
whew that is a lot of work good job
7/21/2010 6:04:39 PM
committed to cutting out the rain tray last night (ie started chopping). got a good bit of it out today, drilling spot welds.also got the undercoating and some of the primer off of the driver side fender well.

whats is that little filter for. sweet build so far. i like it.
9/18/2010 8:19:59 PM
crankcase breather. i will probably do a catch can but i threw the filter on there to keep crap out of the engine
9/19/2010 12:52:03 AM
little late night work...
9/19/2010 3:57:57 AM
blow by is going to own that little filter
9/19/2010 10:15:33 AM
Seriously, get a catch can. & pony up for the ABF alternator setup.
9/19/2010 10:11:36 PM
i know VW had oil bathed air filters in the first beetals but i think that filteris gonna get fucked up fast
9/19/2010 10:25:30 PM
the abf alternator setup is nice, but the aba setup works fine for now. do you happen to know the part number for the alternator? i tried finding it in etka but when i searched for the parts it was the aba style case.i do plan on getting a catch can. i will work that out once everything is in the car. finishing the body work is the main focus now because the engine is almost done. i just need to pick up an oil pump and some engine/trans mounts.[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 12:11 AM. Reason : nevermind.. found it.. ]
9/19/2010 11:59:48 PM
I had it somewhere but couldn't find it ~6 months back when someone else asked. Maybe there is a usable PN on mine.
9/21/2010 10:52:34 PM
more progress.. got a few more things bolted to the engine as well. the last few engine bits are on the way.
10/8/2010 10:25:36 PM
by engine bits, do you mean a 76mm turbo. lol
10/8/2010 11:48:08 PM
no... oil pump, oil pan
10/9/2010 12:50:30 PM
oh lolwhat kind of pan are you gonna run. [Edited on October 9, 2010 at 3:14 PM. Reason : ;']
10/9/2010 3:14:06 PM
just a stock one with a windage tray.. might pick up a baffled pan if i run across one.more work...
10/10/2010 12:57:28 AM
11/8/2010 10:33:15 AM
damn, sonnice!
11/8/2010 11:12:54 AM
got a little more done..also, since i had it out, here is my engine management system (megasquirt)
11/14/2010 8:04:08 AM
more progress
12/5/2010 12:46:10 PM
why are you refinishing the entire body?
12/6/2010 7:16:22 PM
there were like 3 or 4 layers of paint. i wanted to make sure i had a good base. there were a few areas that had some rust as well. the area around the windshield and floor were the biggest concerns.but it snowballed...
12/6/2010 11:44:04 PM
Lol might as weelllll!!
12/7/2010 12:45:17 PM
What kind of sanding tools refinishing methods are you using. I ask bc although I know how to do body work I'm looking for less time consuming more efficient methods[Edited on December 7, 2010 at 12:55 PM. Reason : Z]
12/7/2010 12:49:33 PM
best thing i have found so far for stripping is twisted cup wire wheel (i buy the northern brand one with the "extended life ring") and the hard sponge looking "strip n clean" wheels. for the crevices and such, just a combination of wire wheels and stuff like that on a small air grinder.is that what you are asking?[Edited on December 7, 2010 at 4:05 PM. Reason : ..]
12/7/2010 4:03:19 PM
damn that looks like a lot of work!!
