Seems fast as hell for me. Would like that middle click since I'm on a Thinkpad atm though...

9/2/2008 7:23:02 PM
i can browse through porn galleries 10 times faster!
9/2/2008 7:24:32 PM
as soon as I can get rid of ads (adblock plus), use mouse gestures (allinone gestures), and use my custom hotkeys (keyconfig), i'm sold.
9/2/2008 7:29:46 PM
don't forget about greasemonkey.in the webcast they did mention an extention API is coming out... imho, it can't come out soon enough
9/2/2008 7:49:33 PM

So I installed it and it seems to render about 100 times as fast as firefox. Pages are rendered before I even release the mouse button.
9/2/2008 8:18:46 PM
youve gotta be kidding me.i've cleared the caches and 'raced' em side by side and i'm not seeing a huge difference. what sites are you looking at?
9/2/2008 8:36:05 PM
shoot, check gmail, that one site alone it's very noticeable, no loading bars whatsoever like i get with ff3 all the time.
9/2/2008 8:41:41 PM
I just want a fucking download link that works
9/2/2008 8:42:17 PM
Any word on a Linux release other than TBA?
9/2/2008 8:43:57 PM
hrmm yeh google calendar is pretty noticable
9/2/2008 8:49:02 PM
Doesn't it have Google Gears integration or something built in? That might explain the faster google-based sites....I'm fine with ff3 for now, we'll see in teh future. And,I too have used mouse gestures.
9/2/2008 8:54:08 PM
if i were you, i wouldnt hold my breath waiting for adblock... seeing how google has that whole advertising thing.
9/2/2008 9:05:19 PM
Google Gears doesn't really have anything to do with that - Gears is just the offline mode for certain applicationsThe Google pages loading faster almost certainly have to do with the new V8 JavaScript virtual machine. Gmail, Reader, Calendar etc are extremely heave on JavaScript, so it would stand to reason these would benefit most from V8
9/2/2008 9:06:09 PM
love how fast it is......or appears to be
9/2/2008 9:07:30 PM
ha!I just had about ten tabs open, in one i was watching Cobert's 8 Best Athiest Moments videos. When it crashed. Chrome hates atheism! So it froze all of Chrome up for a min or two... but! i killed the biggest of the Chrome processes (80mb) and it killed only the flash on the page. Everything else in Chrome is still open and running great including the Colbert tab minus flash. Pretty cool i guess.
9/2/2008 9:20:38 PM
i've been wondering how the crashing stuff works... I looked at the processes, and i wish there was a way to differentiate should the need arise... thats the thing that im skeptical about...at any rate, even if I kill the whole browser, its no worse than any other browser.
9/2/2008 9:26:23 PM
Yeah, its at least 3 times faster the FF for me. Anybody got some websites that crash easily for me to test on?
9/2/2008 9:26:29 PM
check out the about:memory URL. Very cool - it gets the memory usage for all of the Chrome processes, and also gets the memory for any other running browser. I did my own little memory test. I opened fresh sessions of Chrome, FF3, and IE7 and opened the following pages and let them load fully, but didn't do anything in them: gmail, tech talk, youtube, cnn, googled "2008 election", and google readerThen used about:memory in Chrome to compare it all - Chrome easily the best, IE7 by far the worst
9/2/2008 9:48:08 PM
I really the History page. It loads so fast and the layout is really clean and nice. For as much hype as the FF3 Places feature got (i think that's the name - the SQLite database or whatever that holds all the history and bookmarks) it's really quite cumbersome and not nearly as fast as it could be. Chrome's Hisotry is the way it should be done
9/2/2008 9:50:41 PM
I like how it shows the bookmarks bar when you open a new tab, lets me leave it off normal tabs and get that much more screen space. It's also nice how the tabs take up the same bar as the window controls. No persistent status bar is also a plus.
9/2/2008 10:00:59 PM
Aside from adblock and mouse gestures, I've found the thing that I miss the most are the features from google toolbar. It's weird that google releases a full blown browser and it doesn't even include a single feature from their own firefox toolbar add-on.
9/2/2008 10:12:53 PM
yeah, i thought not having the bookmarks bar would be bad, but then i realized I only use the bookmarks bar when I open a new tab, so works perfectly
9/2/2008 10:13:46 PM
i'm missing the ability to disable pictures - block ads - i don't prefer inline autocomplete - don't like when i go all the way back on a new tab that i've been browsing on it doesn't go to my first viewed page - doesn't remember my reason to edit for ghost edits overall i like it but i can't make a full switch yet ]]
9/2/2008 10:22:25 PM
I just want to know if these mofos are tracking everything I do in chrome. If they are...I will dump this browser asap.Of course I'm kinda paranoid and think intelligent machines are going to ruin the economy.
9/2/2008 10:38:26 PM
^
9/2/2008 10:42:10 PM
Looks like the download manager only shows up in the tab you downloaded from. That can be good/bad.

it screws up where my cursor goes on here. if i insert a quote or smiley, the cursor jumps behind where i put it in, very odd.probably operator error.
9/3/2008 9:50:26 AM
that has something to do with the javascript implementation. Cursor placement in text areas after JS operations (like clicking any of the smiley or toolbar buttons) seems to be different in all browsers, including IE vs. FF
9/3/2008 10:03:30 AM
I can't look at the logo for Chrome without thinking of the Simon Says toys.
9/3/2008 10:05:01 AM
i hate how the tabs are on top. hopefully the release version has the option to put the tabs on the bottom of the toolbar(s)
9/3/2008 10:44:44 AM
Yeah, I'm not sure I like tabs on top either. I kinda liked them at first, but it is further for me to move the mouse to switch tabs. (I know, I know, Ctrl+Tab, but still)
9/3/2008 10:51:26 AM
i doubt they'll move the tab bar, or allow you to move it. They're trying to force the user into a new way of thinking - the tab you're in is completely independent, with its own address bar and set of commands. That tab can be moved, or closed or whatever without affecting other tabs, and all the information in that tab, including the address bar, go with it. The concept makes sense, but it's understandable that it's a bit jarring, coming from IE or FF. btw - they totally nailed the "no menu bar" concept. Much better than IE7. They successfully put all the options we need into two simple button-menus and other interface features, instead of the strange combination of buttons, labels and menus that IE7 has...
9/3/2008 11:07:30 AM
i want adblock.tww is definitely faster in ff with adblock than in chrome.
9/3/2008 11:24:36 AM
^that proxy thing worked for me.
9/3/2008 11:26:27 AM
there's no rss feed subscribe button in the address bar? even if i click on a rss link, it just shows the actual xml. and i can't middle click scroll either and i like FF3 awesome bar (history searching etc) better than chrome's attempt.[Edited on September 3, 2008 at 11:41 AM. Reason : will prolly go back to FF3 at the end of the week]
