^ we're the greatest nation on earth... but we could be greater. I guess if you're the kind of person to settle for mediocrity, McCain's your man.

If people honestly think that she has more relevant experience than McCain, Biden or Obama, than they drank the Republican criticism deflection Kool Aid.Remember:Its not a withdrawal timeline, its a "horizon".The war will pay for itself. The mission is accomplished.Ideology is better than experience.War is peace; freedom is slavery; ignorance is strength.Wait, where have I heard that last part before.[Edited on September 3, 2008 at 12:05 AM. This video is interesting and sad at the same time. It's a clip from Larry King Live where he asks people from both parties what their feelings are with regard to Palin being the VP pick. I'll let you draw your own conclusions, but there is blaringly obvious question avoidance going on...http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/09/02/lkl.palin.controversy.cnn

Fred's speech was great. I listened to it and thought "gee, so why isn't this guy the nominee?" Oh well, maybe next time...Content-wise -- well, Fred is himself a maverick but he loses on the agenda. McCain stands up to pork? Sure. But the Republican party puts it there. McCain opposes increased taxation? Ummmmmmmm ... no. Not even. He's about as anti-tax as Romney is pro-life. McCain is a war veteran/hero/saint? Well yea, but he's an old guy who had the shit beaten out of him and now he's still kicking ...The party has rather fallen off the bus this time. If the Democrats lose just because they're Democrats, that isn't much of a vote of confidence for our nation. I think they're basically at where the Tories were just a few years ago -- they need a charismatic young leader and more appeal to the middle. Having big conventions with Christian Inspirational music and people waving Service as the slogan isn't working. The brand needs repair so why more of the same-old, same-old?Bush talks about standing up to the Angry Left, but it wasn't the Angry Left that booted out the GOP in 2006. It was average people who were and are pissed. Who in the GOP can stand up to the Angry Middle?[Edited on September 3, 2008 at 2:29 AM. Reason : foo]

It was a good night for the repubs. Thompson was great.Anyone see Newt go off on MSNBC? Outstanding.Im looking forward to tonight. Palin NEEDS to do well tonight.
9/3/2008 8:13:37 AM
really? i thought it was pretty lackluster. the taped presidential address was just akward with the pre-planned pauses in the speech. thompson told a sob story that killed whatever energy was still in the building. and lieberman was just a wasted speaker slot. he just repeated the same "we need to work together" line over and over again and you could see that the crowd really didn't want him to be there. conventions are all about bringing the party together, and lieberman was more interested in tearing down the idea of party politics. a fine idea, but i didnt think it was the right setting. the crowd looked bored and uniterested with him.im not trying to say one convention was better then the other, but even during the "down" days at the dem convention there was way more energy and enthusiasm it seems. i felt like the repubs were just going through the motions last night.[Edited on September 3, 2008 at 8:34 AM. ^^ Elections ain't about who can clap the loudest. This will come down to Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, and possibly Michigan again.Obama will win California, Illinois, all of New England, save the possibility of New Hampshire. McCain will win the South most states will be a landslide. (Though Obama will probably win Mecklenburg, Wake, Fulton, and Dekalb counties). McCain will win Texas and the heartland. All the money will be spent in the 4 states above and whoever wins a majority of those states will be President.

sober, I disagree on the speaches. I will agree on the energy level though. I think tonight will have alot more energy.
9/3/2008 8:56:52 AM
I liked liberman's speech last night....especially the part about how McCain isn't afraid to tell the people what he thinks, even when its unpopular..... Oh wait, isn't McCain the one who walks off interviews when he gets a question he doesn't like, refuses to define "honor" in his own words, has effectively banned reporters from his "straight talk express" ect....what a joke....Where's the McCain from 2000?and what was thompson talking about draining some swamp, regardless of agitating the alligators?..I only caught the end of that one.[Edited on September 3, 2008 at 9:13 AM. wait, wait, wait - let me get this straight. here are two quotes concerning John McCain as a POW. One is from a retired Army General, and one is from a lobbyist, actor and Senator

agent, you seriously dont see the difference?

its the way both statements ended, one ended positively, the other negatively, its sets the tone for the whole statement. Thats all people remember.

9/3/2008 9:55:27 AM
9/3/2008 9:59:23 AM
i dont agent. One is clearlly an insult and denegrades what he did. "riding in a plane and getting shot down is qualification to be president." GTFO with that shit. One does not have to be a POW to be president, obviously, no one is saying that other than libs who are pissed. But it does show he fought and suffered for his country, and showed character by not taking his chance to end it all early. That shows honor and character. Exactly what Fred was talking about. It would be like me saying. Its great and all what kennedy did for civil rigths and all, but riding in a car getting your head shot doesnt make you a great president. See the difference?

WOOW. Just saw a news story about those "Anti-war protestors" who were throwing bleach at some of the RNC delegates who were walking to the arena. 3 or 4 people were treated for injuries, including an 83 year old woman. I am 100% for free speech, but things like this gives protestors everywhere a bad rep.
9/3/2008 10:21:28 AM
you don't have to qualify those kind of actions with "i am for free speech". Any reasonable person knows that is not free speech.
