I think the chopped BBQ is good, but the fried chicken is the standout. I don't know if it was an off-day or something, but the Brunswick Stew was terrible on Friday. Bland...no flavor at all. Was disappointed. The Pit has better sides (and maybe better BBQ...I'd have to Pepsi challenge that one), but Cooper's actually has character and better Fried Chicken.]

Some of coopers sides suck because they don't make their own. I've seen them scooping potato salad out of a carton. But you go for the barbecue, etc[Edited on March 30, 2014 at 10:09 PM. Reason : .]

^^i meant I wish I had gone for one last time in the old locationWhen is the new one opening?

April 8th I think. I would be surprised if it was delayed a week, they still had some substantial work to do, from what I could tell.

I recently interviewed at Red Hat and it is really strange and cool looking out from this modern building to see that ancient restaurant just sitting there. I hope the new place has character. If we don't care about these things then we'll end up like Charlotte.

potato salad is disgusting no matter where it comes from

I've never been a fan of potato salad, but i got some red skin-on potato salad a few months back that was awesome. don't remember where though (might have been from a deli somewhere)

My Japanese grandmother makes the best potato salad ever.

anything that has too much mayo in it is disgusting. i prefer my potato salad and slaw to have minimal mayo and more vinegar/mustard.

I tried Cooper's back in college. I remember it being decent but mediocre BBQ. It seemed like the place was mostly nostalgia.

Went to the new location for the first time today. The fried chicken was so damn good, better than at the old location. I know the owners are the same, but maybe the equipment is newer/better. Hell I dunno.

How is that even possible? their fried chicken has always been the best (far better than their BBQ)
7/31/2014 9:57:29 AM
yeah, i don't DISLIKE their bbq by any means, but i probably like it less than their fried chicken and most of their sides.if you're gonna order them for a party or office lunch, make sure to get enough people in so they will put the food in catering trays. it doesn't keep nearly as well in the styrofoam boxes.
7/31/2014 3:19:29 PM
i'm not really crazy about their sides either. kinda plain. also last time i had their stew it was completely flavorless.the pit has much better sides...i think most can agree with that!
7/31/2014 3:34:06 PM
^that slaw tho
7/31/2014 10:19:11 PM
I always get slaw and collards at Coopers. Every other side is meh.
