Was going to stay out of this thread...but after watching the first part of that interview for the one millionth time...Favre is being a fucking prima donna bitch. And I've always liked the guy...but he's acting like he owns the Packers. The Packers have been patient with his "I'm gonna retire/I'm not gonna retire" ass for the past three years. And they gave him his time again this past offseason. But the draft is EXTREMELY important to a team and so is the development of the future QB. So for them to "force" him to make a decision before that is extremely reasonable. So then he lets them draft a couple QBs and further prepare for a season with Rodgers at the helm and then he has the nerve to talk shit about them denying him the starting job??And Thompson hasn't exactly said the right thing...but I think everyone at least knows what he's thinking...he just needs to come out and say it and not worry about ruffling the lace on Favre's dress. Trade his sorry ass and watch him fuck-up with a new team and retire next year.Good friend of mine who has been with the Packers for 14 years says everyone in the organization wants to give Favre a swift kick in the nuts.

At least there'll be an ARod people like.

Aaron Rodgers hasn't even started a game for the Packers and people say he sucks already.I would laugh if he came in and just tore shit up....he did look good in 1 half against Dallas.
7/16/2008 1:07:06 AM
People say EVERYONE sucks. The only one that actually came true was J peppers, and M Vick.Vick because you simply cant play from jail.
7/16/2008 8:45:43 AM
yea pretty much. every player in the league has certain people that think they "suck".
7/16/2008 8:50:28 AM
Stephen A. Smith is not a fan of Brett Favre.http://tinyurl.com/6rkb7bI will say that even though I like Brett Favre, I've always felt he gets away with things, in the media, that other primadonna superstar athletes consistently get slammed for.[Edited on July 16, 2008 at 11:35 AM. Reason : :]

I change the channel when smith is on tv. I'm sure as shit not going to seek out a video of him on the internet (unless its high school kids mocking him).

Packers think that the Vikings tampered with Favre.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3492720Evidently Favre has been talking with the OC of the Vikings. It isn't enough to screw one team up before the season begins, the one man wrecking crew is going to bring the whole division down.[Edited on July 17, 2008 at 9:32 AM. God I hope he fucks up royally next season and Aaron Rodgers has a pro-bowl type year. What a fucking prick.
7/17/2008 9:38:13 AM
i don't know what the contract situation is, but if i were the Packers, i'd be thrilled to have Favre as a tradeable piece. they could get some good blue collar players from a team that needs a QB.
7/17/2008 11:00:16 AM
^ he's probably got some sort of no-trade clause in his contract though, being who he is and all. but i don't know that for certain.
7/17/2008 11:24:07 AM
Pretty sure he has the right to waive a no-trade clause....which it seems like that's what he wants to do (unless he's really going to be a dick-head and force them to waive him and get nothing for him).
7/17/2008 12:07:46 PM
if i understand it correctly, if he wants to be a dick they could just keep him and not play himkind of a loss/loss for both of them if they do that but i believe they could do it if they really wanted to]
7/17/2008 12:11:27 PM
what's going to happen is a trade. favre has a 12 million dollar contract, and no team can afford to pay that for a guy to sit on the bench. and favre wouldn't sit anyway. the packers will trade him to a team, most likely in the AFC, who won't hurt them. the packers whole rationale for not giving him his release is so he can't sign with the vikings (or the bears).
7/17/2008 12:47:55 PM
I'm shocked so many people are just finding out about Brett Farve and his personality. Remember a few years ago when they drafted Rodgers and they asked if he was going to help mentor him, his response was something like "no i'm not a babysitter." But that is just how the guy is, he says what he thinks. The guy is just super emotional, and people like that go with how their gut feels at that time, clearly he doesn't think past tomorrow. It doesn't change that he is a great qb, plays the game with a ton of heart, and has proven over time to be a winner even if he is a gunslinger. If he wants to play who gives a fuck, again it comes back to the media just making it a story everytime the guy farts.Keep in mind this guy has made the Packers an ASSload of money, and has kept them relevant in football for a long time.

My point wasn't that no team has the money. My point was that no team can afford to waste 12 million on a backup. It's stupid an irresponsible, and no team, whether they can or not, would allocate nearly 10% of their overall cap room to a player who they don't plan on playing.(Some reasonable AFC possibilities are the Jets, Ravens, and Dolphins...it just depends on who wants it and has more to offer. I figure he'll end up getting traded away for a third or fourth round pick sometime in the next couple of weeks. Then it will just be a matter of restructuring his existing contract, which the new team will most likely do.)[Edited on July 17, 2008 at 3:42 PM. Reason : fdg]
7/17/2008 3:39:45 PM
would it be possible for Farve to get traded to a team not in the packers division and without even signing him (behind the packers back) trade him to the vikings/bears for one of their players?Kinda like a sneaky 3 team trade. I would assume that the packers would have that in writing or something to block that from happening though.[Edited on July 17, 2008 at 3:45 PM. Reason : a]
7/17/2008 3:44:47 PM
yes
7/17/2008 3:52:07 PM
I heard someone suggest trading Favre to the Browns for Derek Anderson and that seemed to make some sense. Favre takes the helm for a couple years while Brady Quinn develops, and the Packers get great insurance for Aaron Rodgers.Favre would be playing in a pass friendly offense in the North, but not in the same conference, and with a team that doesn't pack the Packers this year. Not sure if Cleveland would feel they'd be better off with Favre instead of Anderson though.
7/17/2008 3:53:37 PM
Favre and Anderson are both solid QBsdifference is, Anderson (barring injuries) still has a 10+ year career ahead of him
7/17/2008 3:55:09 PM
That's a great plan except that Favre isn't going to play a few more years and if the Packers wanted a an experienced back-up they wouldn't have taken Brohm.
7/17/2008 3:55:22 PM
^^^ hadn't thought of that.Browns will have to contend with the Anderson vs. Quinn issue soon enough.[Edited on July 17, 2008 at 3:55 PM. Reason : ]
7/17/2008 3:55:23 PM
stupidly, i think they will go with quinn, because of the investment and the fact that it would look like a dumb pick if they didn't.
7/17/2008 3:59:05 PM
7/17/2008 6:10:17 PM
Bullshit. It would be an incredible waste of money and would hamper in negotiations / extensions for other players.
7/17/2008 6:21:03 PM
The argument isn't would they/should they, it's could they. And like Stein said, they have the cap room to do it. Learn to read, folks.
7/17/2008 6:33:32 PM
That's a retarded argument, and it ignores what the original quote was trying to say.
7/17/2008 6:39:18 PM
"could" vs. "should" is semantics when it comes to what is "reasonable"i seriously do not think it is reasonable to keep such a valuable tradeable piece on the bench
7/17/2008 6:40:24 PM
If Anderson has a decent year they can trade him next year and get something better in return then an old qb. I don't see them making that trade, doesn't make enough sense. Keep hearing Tampa Bay being thrown around if he does end up in the NFC, and I think the packers would rather eat the salary then let him play in Minn. or Chi. Player for Player trades rarely happen in the NFL..
7/17/2008 6:40:34 PM
You're right, and Stein acknowledged that.[Edited on July 17, 2008 at 6:41 PM. Reason : ^, ^^]

A little old but... it turns out that Favre was not only in contact with the Vikings OC, but he was calling their head coach from his Packers-issued cell phone. Now the Vikes face a tampering investigation and may have to deal with punishment in the form of fines and lost draft picks. Goodell is stepping in and trying to accelerate the process of figuring out what to do with drama-boy. AFC and NFC teams have been contacted by the Packers about the possibility of trading Favrehttp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3501459
7/23/2008 1:53:10 PM
Shit just got real. Not really, but there is some serious shit going on about Roger Clem...I mean Favre.
7/24/2008 3:57:23 PM
Reports out today that the Packers don't even issue cell phones, so we have some good quality reporting going on with this whole thing which is nice.He will be traded in the next few days, probably for like a 2nd round pick and an additional pick contigent on him starting a certain number of games or performing well.
7/24/2008 4:42:42 PM
Sick and tired of this shit already... III
