Actually Posey was an excellent player in Memphis.Great two way game. He was crucial in the title run. The Hornets need some veteran leadership on a relatively young team. He provides shooting, perimeter defense, and he can frustrate the hell out of Kobe. That's exactly what NO needs. You can't play Morris Peterson 30 minutes per game deep in the playoffs.I do agree he will be cooked near the end of that contract. He's already lost a lot of athleticism. But NO is playing for the here and now and I don't have a problem with that.

Pretty good analysis by Hollinger. I hesistate to ever be too far on the other side of the fence than Hollinger because I think he gives pretty good reasoning. However, I did learn his per stat is pretty flawed towards people who shoot more thanks to the more accurate WoW analysis. That tends to underrate a player like Posey who doesn't shoot often.I definitely agree he will be all but washed up ~3 seasons from now and that the contract length is a little long but there will be ways for the Hornets to shed payroll at a later date. I think they are trying to put together a squad that can win a title in the next two years and I think Posey is a piece that makes them a contender.Albeit a longshot, but still you gotta go for it nonetheless.

Kinda sad that he hasn't panned out. Thought he was gonna be nasty after his first few years.Anyone remember when him and Quentin Richardson use to put the "daps" on the top of their head after a basket or good play?? I think I remember it signifying "the beast within" or something gay like that.

Raja showed up at the flamingo today all low key. I played against him 5 on 5 and he was missing layups and all his 3s but probably giving his 5%. He had some nice globetrots and and1 moves though.

Darius Miles had one monster season before blowing out his knee again. Its just too much for 18 year old kids to try to adjust to the NBA game. Kids like Shawn Livingston and Jonathan Bender who were legit NBA players never let their bodies develop before trying to bang against men. Eventually they break down. Look even at guys like Kevin Durant. He had one of the best freshmen seasons of all time and he goes to the pros and has a nightmare season.Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant are the exceptions to the rule. And even those guys at the age of 30 look like 40 year old men the way they play. Their unparalleled skill set is the only thing that keeps them in the league at this point.
7/25/2008 12:56:26 AM
interesting discussion...you say Kobe and Garnett are the exception not the rule, but look at all the players drafted out of high school in the last 10 years or so...aside from stars like Kobe and Garnett who are able to succeed, you also have people like Lebron, Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudamire, who in addition to Kobe and Garnett, are also some of the best players in the league...and I think I read somewhere that in the last 10 or 15 years, 6.5% of draft picks have been straight out of high school...we're quick to say the Darius Miles and Kwame Browns are the norm, and the Kobes and Lebrons are the exceptions, but are they really?]
7/25/2008 1:27:58 AM
Yes.
7/25/2008 1:43:00 AM
i think in some other NBA thread recently someone posted a link of the high school players drafted in the last 10 years or so...there werent that many overall, and many of them were good...I, like you, originally thought good HS players were the exception until I saw that listbtw I forgot to mention Rashard Lewis and Tyson Chandler...they're kind of decent also

On April 30, 2008, Associated Press reported that Durant was awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year Award for the 2007-08 season
7/25/2008 2:06:49 AM
^ Which pretty much everyone is in agreement was a joke.Al Horford actually had a positive impact on his team this year while Durant had a poor season and actually had a NEGATIVE wins score for gods sake.Fortunately for Durant sportswriters don't actually watch games and they just make assumptions based on ppg and surrounding hype.

2008-2009 NBA Preseason Rankings should be something like this:1) Lakers- Full year with Pau and Bynum. Probably win 60+ games.2) Celtics- They will get a lil complacent and they will be older3) Hornets- Didnt lose anyone and Paul will be better4) Jazz - Best Home team in NBA5) Spurs- One last go round for these guys6) Pistons - Will probably make a trade before the deadline for T-Mac

Okafor reportedly will sign a 6 year, $72 million dealcheaper than Bogutalso Ricky Davis moved to yet another team as he signs with the Clippersnow all they need to do is sign Eddie Robinson and we can have the old Charlotte Hornets alley oop team glory days
7/29/2008 10:41:43 AM
man Okafor, Biedris, Bogut, and Kwame all got WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for how mediocre they are
7/29/2008 10:43:14 AM
I don't think $12 million for Okafor is all that out of line...he's not really going to improve his game or develop it much more than it currently is, but he'll give you a double double every night and block a couple shots]

Too bad Poor Mac is snakebitten and won't ever get out of the first round of the playoffs, anyway.
7/30/2008 2:13:29 AM
Artest is a CANCER
7/30/2008 9:51:13 AM
if he is such a cancer then why were several contenders trying to get him?he might be a little crazy but i dont think he is a cancer
7/30/2008 10:15:47 AM
After retiring this last time he has decided its time to play again
7/30/2008 11:24:02 AM

7/30/2008 12:31:43 PM
Yeah, Karl Malone was a cancer, too. Let's not forget John Stockton.
7/30/2008 12:48:24 PM
anyone who has never won a title is a cancer]
7/30/2008 12:58:39 PM
People forget how the Pacers were perenial contenders before the brawl happened... They had the best record in the NBA and Artest was the Defensive POY in 2003-04. I dunno what the trade means for Battier, but it certainly gives the Rockets a 'big 3' of sorts.Actually i guess that's the only season Artest didn't have a suspension or trade demand for the past several seasons... forget what i said.
7/30/2008 1:26:47 PM
yeah i guess that is why several contenders talked about him.....The REAL CONTENDERS didnt pull the triggerTHE PRETENDERS didthe lakers and pistons dont want a guy like that on their team
7/30/2008 1:48:10 PM
It is a great move for the Rockets, they had to do something. The current group was going nowhere. So if he is a cancer then they weren't winning anything without him, if he does what he is capable of, and he does have a good relationship with their coach already(huge plus when dealing with a guy like that) then he could be a missing piece to a pretty talented group.
7/30/2008 2:19:13 PM
Dont forget Yao was out for most of the season too, they will be strong.
7/30/2008 2:23:49 PM
They wont be as strong as... LAKERS SPURS HORNETS JAZZ OR SUNS
7/30/2008 3:40:53 PM
^just because you use capital letters doesn't make it true. They are still behind the Lakers and Hornets, and probably Jazz. But I think this helps them into that next group with the Spurs and Suns, two teams I think are on their way down.
7/31/2008 7:51:25 AM
i thought it was pretty funny that after this trade went down pretty much most every sports caster, radio host and columnists all agreed that this was a great deal for the Rocketsthey have their own "big three" now and just got a lot tougher in the front court...something they needed
7/31/2008 8:56:52 AM
too bad McGrady is still a pansy in crunch time. I've been a semi-rockets fan for a while now and I like the deal for Artest, mainly because it will take the heat off TMac and let him know that he needs to give the ball to Yao or Artest in critical situations.McGrady does not have ice water in his veins.
7/31/2008 9:21:11 AM
^^^ Yeah I forgot the spurs made the conference finals last season so yeah they are obviously on their way down
7/31/2008 11:30:20 AM
^Hm.. lets think, 2 years ago they won the whole thing, last year the lose in the conference finals, they have added nothing and you get old very fast in the nba. Unless making the conference finals is better then winning a championship, I'd say they are on their way down to the second tier. Good try though, maybe your 28th post will be a win.
7/31/2008 1:29:56 PM
the Spurs also have the best winning percentage over the last 10 years of any team in any of the 4 major sports leagues...they're a well run franchise...Tony Parker, one of the most underrated players in the league, is 26 years old...and Greg Popovich is one of the most underrated coaches in the NBA...I'd definitely have to see a bigger dropoff than losing in the Western Finals before I say they're anywhere near a 2nd tier team]
7/31/2008 1:32:39 PM
I would love to see the Spurs fall off just because I really don't like themBut its their role players that are getting ancient...Horry, Barry, Thomas, etc.....those guys are replaceable Their core still has a few yeas left of their prime...Duncan is the oldest of the 3 but big men who keep themself in shape don't fall off that sharplyI think they'll still be a major factor for the next two or three yearsWhether they win another title is anyone's guess...the West is just so deep
7/31/2008 1:36:36 PM
My point was that the spurs are still better than the rockets
7/31/2008 2:01:49 PM
7/31/2008 2:12:01 PM
Spurs have been great for a long time, don't get me wrong. But all good things come to an end. Duncan is still strong but exiting his prime, and gino is not the same player he was a few years ago. Those role players "Horry, Barry, Thomas" are replaceable? Those guys have rings and experience, not going to be easy to replace and they haven't replaced them yet. They barely got into the finals as it was this year, but I'm not putting them up in the group with the Lakers/Hornets who are younger and getting better, while the spurs are older and on their downside of the dynasty. NBA experts are not putting this team in the top tier in the west.
