no, i'm doing it because i want to have the option of an academic job in the future and it takes a lot less money/time if i do all my schooling at once.

[Edited on June 10, 2008 at 1:34 PM. Reason : not to mention a BS in my field isn't particularly marketable for jobs i would want]

Is the next step to argue that only certain sectors of the economy are acceptable real world experience?

^^nobody (not me at least) is saying there is ANYTHING wrong with that

i just dont know why you seem so adamant that you can know all about working full time, paying bills, taxes, etc full time, without actually doing it

^i thought the next step was to talk about how great Iran is and how its a democracy

idk, one day you'll make enough $ and look down at your paycheck and read it.

you'll notice you are making 2x the amount of money you earned at the previous job. you'll probably write your gf, or tell your parents, and spread the good news. you might even think you can afford a nice car. it'll be awesome!

then you'll continue reading your paycheck and look at few other items: income tax, and other taxes and fees.

then you ---might--- even just go "Huh? something is wrong. my taxes quadrupled, yet my salarly barely doubled. i think something must be wrong here"

then when you see obama on tv next time you might just sit back and listen with both ears open and your mouth shut not screaming that he is the messiah of this country for once.

^^^of course i can't answer the question that i asked you. what would be the point of the question?

^^and of course that's what you're all getting at. at some point in the future i'm going to be outraged by how much of my money is being taken in taxes and then i'll become a conservative. like somehow i'm less impacted by the taxes taken out of my paycheck because i make less money.

just wait till it hits the fan and you finally feel like you've gone to school for a reason after you get that nice job. then mr. obama will park his big ole dump truck right next to you and expect you to start forking it over.

thats total bullshit and you know it

my claim is "go find out for yourself"

you have some fucked up perception that you can learn everything in life by someone explaining something to you...that theres nothing that can only be learned from personal experience...get a clue...thats along the lines as thinking you know everything there is to know about raising a child from just asking some parents...and then getting pissed at them when they tell you that you don't understand some things without raising a child of your own

Do you understand what semantics means? You said, that I am seeking my career and fortunes as a government worker. Currently working for the government and being a career government worker are not the same.

Some people, especially those in my situation, work in government for a few years before jumping into the corporate world, where we realize massive starting salaries.

for someone who touts "real world experience," you sure as hell do not understand how it works.

speaking of real world experience, are you still a big proponent of unions? unions are another thing that sound great in theory but, when you experience them in real life, turn out to be a cesspool of corruption...but you work a govt job so what the fuck do you care

he won't. that's the best part. he'll continue to suffocate in his basement thinking everybody else will just put up with it.

this country rose up against the evils of civilization many a time.

and has beaten the ever living fuck out of all those who have opposed the good men and women of it. even within its own boundaries. dnl, if it turns into war, even civil war, i'm sure the great people of this nation will rise up and throw down those evils just like they have in the past. and they will win again and you know it.

that's absurd. distinction between thinking and feeling is contrary to psychological evidence. what is the distinction between a thought and feeling anyway? it's generally just a notion by the "thinker" that they're unbiased which is impossible.

this is particularly absurd coming out of boortz's speech, since his main argument seems to fueled by an emotional argument.

what?

i've never claimed to be unbiased or free from emotion in my views.

your basic argument is that i can't logically think about this situation until i've felt the stings of taxes and whatnot on my own.

^^ Again, you miss the point. Surprise!

You can't have one and the not the other. Humans think and feel. Fact.

You can base your rational thoughts on benevolent feelings, or you can base your rational thoughts on being a selfish dick, as Boortz has gotten rich doing.

those are the only two ways to think? thats absurd...some people base rational thoughts on logic and reasoning...which obviously you two would have a really hard time understanding since you arent capable of separating your thoughts and feelings...sarijoul doesnt even realize theres a difference

Do you not understand that rational decisions are based on values?

Where exactly do you get said values?

Two people can make rational decisions and come up with two completely different decisions.
