they've made very minor improvements to the looks of it, but it's still shitty (ie, where is 16x9 guide?)more importantly, you may (probably not) have noticed they've made leaps and bounds in the closed-captioning dept.go twc[Edited on October 9, 2008 at 7:33 PM. Reason : or not Ø]

16x9 guide will never be possible over a software update with these boxes. The hardware won't allow it, it can't physically draw outside the 4:3 area.
10/9/2008 9:08:11 PM
at least it doesn't hurt to look at....
10/9/2008 9:27:06 PM
Why are their boxes so much shittier than the direct tv dvr's let alone tivo's? I mean it's not like the cable companies don't have SOME kind of competition from satellite and internet streaming providers. I'd think they'd have lost more customers by now from these continually shitty pieces of hardware.

I'm so glad I'm done with TWC and don't need to deal with this POS box anymore.

issues i've noticed (on my 8240HDC). if anyone knows a fix/workaround for 1 or 2 let me know.1) You can't select to record a series in certain time slots like you could on the old system. so some shows (like the daily show) have the new tag messed up or something so even though i say new only im recording 3 TDS per day (awesome).2) Related to #1, when you say keep a max of 3 shows, it keeps a max of 3 PER time slot...which combined with #1 really fills up the dvr fast for syndicated and replay shows. And guess what, theres no longer an option to only keep 1 show. The options are 3,5, and 7.3) The lag is HORRIBLE. It's click and wait with almost every command. The most noticeable is when you 1)do to your recorded show list 2)delete a show 3)keyword searchreally, really, really shitty software. i guess all we can hope for is updates. Does the 8300HDC have the same issues? I don't remember it having these...
10/13/2008 2:23:57 PM
anyone?
10/21/2008 11:34:06 PM
1) Yes.2) Yes.3) Yes.[Edited on October 22, 2008 at 9:26 AM. Reason : and I have a 8300HDC]
10/22/2008 9:25:56 AM
Reasons i like the new software...1. I can now pause/fast forward live recordings while my external drive is attached.2. When you delete a show you're watching from the list menu... it doesn't glitch like it did3. the sex is amazing

i can no longer jump by 15 minute intervals now. when i hold down the button, it freezes up the show and then just FFs at 3 X speed. anyone else getting this type of error or have they changed something that i dont know about?

haha ohh... ok thanks....
10/22/2008 1:32:47 PM
ok so we can't adjust the priority of shows in our series manager? seriously? i must be missing something.
10/27/2008 10:15:37 PM
^You are correct. The only way is to re-enter to get top priority.
10/27/2008 10:50:01 PM
so if i have a show at the top that i want to move to the bottom...i have to cancel all the other recordings and restart them. awesome. thx twc (assholes)
10/27/2008 11:06:42 PM
anyone else not able to FF or RW by 15 minute intervals anymore besides me?
10/28/2008 12:34:19 PM
just did it a couple nights ago. i assume you already restarted it (yay its like 10 minutes to do this now)

So I have a 8240HDC box and the lag on it is absolutely terrible. I always chalked it up to TWC's general shittiness, but when I was visiting family in the Charlotte area this week I noticed their boxes had different software. It was much smoother with no lag and some minor visual differences. Do the Charlotte and Raleigh areas have different software, or could it be that they have different boxes (I didn't think to look)?

did anyone get the new DVR software update this week?we finally have series priority adjustment, and "Air Time" to pick when to record the show, and some minor look and feel updatesI cant pick out what else they changed yet, my new software showed up yesterday***Not sure if its a problem for anyone else, but my Mythbusters series recording is set to record only new episodes, and it is scheduled to record an episode of Mythbusters on Sunday at 5pm. The next new episode of Mythbusters does not air until April 8th, anyone else have this problem?[Edited on March 25, 2009 at 10:31 PM. Reason : .]

That might not necessarily be TWC's fault, some networks seem to fuck up and send out reruns tagged as new. I use vista media center but i know that adult swim/cartoon network has done it a lot.
3/26/2009 3:45:09 PM
if anyone is really fed up with the new software, go to TWC and ask for an 8300HDC...they run different software than toehr's i've seen (the formatting and colors are different, more series options, priority adjustment, believe you can FF from stop, faster interface etc). i had an 8240 before and whatever software/version that was running was really shitty (see my above comments). this one isn't that bad at all. im curious what the difference isi've replace both my 8240s with 8300hdc and it's been smooth sailing (by TWC standards) since]
3/26/2009 4:09:15 PM
Did you just walk into the place off of Atlantic and ask for an 8300?I just got the 82XX last weekend when TWC came to install everything and have noticed that my HD picture looks much more grainy than my 8300 I had in my old house.
4/16/2009 10:57:36 AM
If you can get an 8300HD that's even better. The HDCs are still pretty much garbage.
4/16/2009 11:29:17 AM
the update in the firmware pretty much brought the usability (options, series priority, etc) back up to where it was before their cable card update a year or so ago. it's still slow as balls though.
4/16/2009 11:49:29 AM
ok - just so I am clear - I have the HD DVR 82XX now.I need to request the 8300HD not the 8300HDC.
