a lot of it depends on company cultures and most folks on TWW are probably with technical oriented companies (/assumption) and a lot of technical companies aren't sticklers to the dress code. my boss is a high net worth individual and has run over 10 different startups and some days he wears jeans and a polo, other days he'll wear a $5,000 suit if he has important meetings, it just varies based on his day.i don't think there is a strong correlation between dress and salary, now professional appearance (dressing similarly to your coworkers and bosses, carrying yourself well, good hygiene, etc.) probably has a much stronger correlation.

i like how he used non-integers as axis intervals

4/23/2008 11:38:11 PM
where's the column for people that like to impress others on the internet by listing their salary?
4/23/2008 11:39:52 PM
right next to the column for people who try to act like they are somehow above it, while the reality is that they couldn't even get union work.
4/23/2008 11:58:48 PM
75K is very high. Only 1% of the human population makes that much in one year. You just have to many expenses.
4/24/2008 11:22:38 AM
human population is kind of a bad reference point
4/24/2008 11:30:11 AM
^that statistic is meaningless if you live in the US or for that matter a city in the US.73K is the median salary in NYC.
4/24/2008 11:34:43 AM
heh, and that won't even put you in the median apartment.

it's not how much you make, but how much you save.I make $90k in possibly one of the richest counties in country in CT area near NYC. Rent is $1500 for 1 bedroom (not upscale at all!), no car payments, no family, but general cost of living eat up the money quite fast. Fuel, food, tolls, general entertainment ...and just about everything else is considerably more expensive than in Triangle.stop worrying about how much you make. stash as much as you can, because that is the only thing that matters.

5/1/2008 9:36:39 AM

Guys, I'm thinking about maybe becoming a CEO one day. Perhaps I'll wear a suit then.
5/5/2008 11:15:16 AM
^^ around the same time as "2500+ Day Club" became "I'll be there in ___ number of days" vice "I'm there."
5/5/2008 11:54:26 AM
depends on the day, I range from a suit and tie to jeans and a polo shirt.
5/5/2008 12:17:37 PM
I've noticed that all the upper management and project managers always wear slacks and nice dress shirts. Wonder if this is a "superority" status thing or they just try to set a professional appearance to the avg worker.Engineers wear everything from t-shirts/shorts to button up shirt/slacks
5/5/2008 1:19:19 PM
Obviously if you're higher up and meet a lot of people each day you don't want to look like crap.I wore shorts and a t-shirt the other day and someone asked if I was going to the gym.
