what turbo is you using?? whats the target hp?
6/2/2008 10:38:31 AM
read the thread.evo 16g300-350 once it's broken in
6/2/2008 10:58:01 AM
crap routing, but we were working with what he had. much better than when the prev. guy had the return pipe running back over the front of the intercooler, basically we got rid of a couple feet of pipe and it looks proper
6/2/2008 1:45:00 PM
can you not clock the compressor housing on the turbo (it is a tight fit, tho)?
6/2/2008 2:49:11 PM
^ It is possible to clock an Evo III 16G, friend did it, but I'm pretty sure it's not like clocking an aftermarket Garrett which just involves loosening a few bolts (had to clock my T04S). You might have to remove the compressor housing or something, I don't remember the details. To the OP, do you have a pressure tester? I use the one from http://www.boostpro.net/prodtester.html . You can also make that out of home depot parts, it's nothing special. Pressure testers are also REALLY useful for diagnosing any kind of random vacuum leak that can result from blocking off emissions crap, gaskets, loose vacuum hose, etc. For example, I had 3/16" vacuum hose (or the metric equivalent in silicone from Hose Techniques) on a bunch of vacuum lines. They seemed to fit fine, but when I pressure tested them they leaked, even with zipties around them. I ended up going with 5/32" hose that was so tight it would barely slip on to the various nipples and it never leaked. The zipties didn't seem to make any difference.I don't doubt that your setup is now way better than it was before, but that elbow is a boost leak waiting to happen depending on how much psi you plan to run. Best way to prevent boost leaks is have all your pipe connections dead flush and practically touching each other, then use t-bolt clamps with reinforced straight silicone couplers, and minimize the number of pieces in the first place. At least buy t-bolt clamps. I spent about $90 on clamps for my setup. You can also get some of the pieces welded together so you have a minimum number of pipes, that's what I ended up doing.Shit gets real when you get over 20psi... friend used to run about 23 on his Vr-4 using two of those Evo III 16G's and his intercooler piping (he did it custom) had to be perfect for it not to leak. Of course that is in a twin turbo setup which is a pain because of the Y-pipe.[Edited on June 2, 2008 at 7:42 PM. Reason : clocking the turbo]
6/2/2008 7:40:32 PM
leak issue aside, there has to be some flex in the piping between the motor and the intercooler
6/2/2008 7:44:42 PM
the couplers give it a little bit of flex even if you have everything lined up dead-on with T-bolts. It's not like exhaust that's bolted together with flanges, gaskets etc that generally need to have hangers... boost leaks and ease of removal are the main priorities when routing intercooler piping IMO.
6/2/2008 7:52:53 PM
i hear yah. I need to pickup some real intercooler couplers. right now from the j-pipe it goes from 1.5 inches to 2 inches.
6/3/2008 8:54:18 AM
just get it running for now and fix the piping later, that's what I did on my project. It takes a while just to make sure the car is not overheating, leaking any fluids etc, and you're going to do at least some break-in so you won't be boosting a ton.
6/3/2008 9:00:19 AM
is that a 90 degree ABS plastic elbow from Lowe's?
6/3/2008 9:02:02 AM
lol. yes. i need to put some real couplers on there. any recommended sites? werd.. only going to boost 10-12lbs for break in[Edited on June 3, 2008 at 1:09 PM. Reason : .]
6/3/2008 1:08:13 PM
http://www.atpturbo.com is your friend. They have so many crazy knick-nack adapters, flanges, fittings, etc that are awesome for any kind of custom turbo plumbing. Sometimes you are better off just going to Phantasm though because their prices are similar (when you calculate in shipping cost) and they will let you make exchanges if the coupler or clamp you get doesn't work for whatever reason.
6/3/2008 2:42:55 PM
ew phantasm.. yeah might as well tho.thanks.
6/3/2008 5:23:47 PM
that IC seems lilbit of an overkill for 16g. id worry about pressure drop?
6/3/2008 7:28:55 PM
yeah. but it came with the car and i dont have anything else.. so oh well.
6/4/2008 8:44:59 AM
6/4/2008 9:32:09 AM
so, mine is ok?
6/4/2008 9:40:38 AM
yeah... should be fine dude and you'll never have to worry about hot air in your motor
6/4/2008 11:16:59 AM
well it took a backwards step.how every dsm gets around:
6/15/2008 4:29:15 PM
so what's still keeping it from running?
6/15/2008 4:40:58 PM
it runs, just needs vacuum lines, bigger fuel pump dropped, to be street tuned, all the electrical is wired up, even the silly hks turbo timer.just lil stuff here and there. it should be 'done' soon.[Edited on June 15, 2008 at 4:54 PM. Reason : .]
6/15/2008 4:54:02 PM
puttin the good manifold on and cleanin up some of the boogerd wires
6/16/2008 2:11:46 PM
hell yeah mang.
6/16/2008 2:28:43 PM
6/16/2008 2:29:25 PM
not flipping it thats for sure. just builing to have a fun car to drive around
6/16/2008 2:34:02 PM
I have 10 2.5'' T-bolt clamps that I can get rid of for cheaper than any store.Let me know if interested.
6/16/2008 2:39:30 PM
i forget what size my intercooler piping is. either 2.5 or 3 inch. ill def. let you knowNo idea how much power it's going to have anymore. car is going to be my dd most likely but with the evo 16g it will be pretty easy to hit 300.nope.. not flipping it. couldnt even get close to what i have put into it, and i like it 2 much to do that.
6/16/2008 3:07:16 PM
just make sure you don't end like those fools on capitalhttp://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=530062
6/16/2008 5:09:30 PM
Well, it should be one helluva sleeper. Nice
6/16/2008 5:30:09 PM
that looks closer to 2 1/4" piping, definately not 3" at least based on the photos you posted
6/16/2008 9:20:55 PM
k, im going to go with 2.5 piping since i def. know it's not 2.25 from the shit i bought from lowes lol. maximadriver.. u haev a pm..
6/16/2008 11:31:32 PM
I've been through this custom intercooler piping bullshit before, make sure you test fit the clamps (bring a piece of piping with the silicone coupler when you go look at them). A t-bolt has much less range than a worm gear clamp. If it's not the spot-on correct size, it won't work. Sometimes it will seem like the right size but won't fit. I had to get a different style t-bolt (one with a bolt that couldn't be opened all the way and had to slide on) for the coupler on my turbo compressor housing because I couldn't get the standard style (fully opening with a stud) to work. The thickness of the coupler can throw you off too.
6/17/2008 12:40:49 AM
dove it around the block the other day didnt get into boost but it needs some little grimlins taken care of
7/2/2008 8:36:48 PM
damn, friends must be harder to come by than cheap gas if you two are back together after your epic tww breakup. i can't get over how ridiculous that fmic is. if anyone is missing their diesel truck intercooler, they know where to look. best of luck wrapping the bumper around that monstrosity, that might be the biggest challenge of the project. i sure hope it's not hard mounted either.
7/3/2008 1:48:01 AM
it was sitting at some backwoods redneck place in wendell for over 2 months. dude must have tightend one bolt a day. came to my house in a cluster fuck of bits and peices. and motor and trans just lterly hanging in there. i have filled up a 5 gallon bucket with all the bolts that came with the car from the transport. yes friends are harder to comeby these days and well everyone is humand and some people disagree on things from time to time. me and kyle talked things over and everything is good. so all in all the month thing is pretty much true in my part of it. with work and other projects i have in hand let alone other side work im doing this project is coming together quite well if i may add. id like to have it ready for freaky friday in about 36hrs but we willbe there for the next one. maybe not racing but this car will be there. we still have more pictures and questions and mods to do to this thing to get it right but for the most part its 85% done
7/3/2008 2:36:24 AM
you speak of Kevin, out in the boonies, who does cheap paint jobs? I thought he lives closer to Zebulon. And yes, he's a lazy motherfucker. Took 5 months to do a simple paint job for me and he still has some parts of mine like 2 years ago.[Edited on July 3, 2008 at 4:24 AM. Reason : ]

uh huh, so basically you're working off all the money, etc. you bummed off him? gg. i guess ya'll must be better men that i. after an ass whoopin by one of us, the word friend would cease to exist in my vocabulary after the shit ya'll flung at eachother.i might be at the next freaky friday. this car can get some if it wants. on motor of course. might give the back tire or somethin too, whatever. we can definitely roll up on some street pulls ANY time if you need a measuring stick.

God forbid you do a little overkill to make sure your intake air is as close to ambient as possible.
7/3/2008 11:13:22 AM
slowblack96 is a good guy and my friend. He helped me out with this car when no one else would and has helped me out countless times since. We got out differences worked out and put that all behind us.the intercooler came with the car when i bought it for 600 bucks, along with a bunch of other parts... so I'm not complaining, just using what came with the car and the bumper does fit with the intercooler.
7/3/2008 2:06:40 PM
sounds like you are out 600 bucks player.
7/3/2008 3:40:52 PM
^ sound like you and every other fuckstick troll in here dont know what you are talking about.BBR im out of your gay ass classifieds of ragged shit you own and runs on a few cylinders. so i ask you do the same unless you have something to worthfull or helpful to post. you know nothing about me or kyle and we all are tired of your broken record one lined faggitry cut downs. we have all heard them before and dont care. please shut up. no one owes anyone any money at all. i like working on cars and im good at it and the lazy guy that worked on it before was taking kyle for a ride. me being a good friend i have stepped in to resolve this matter and it s working.i don't care about your 70000000rwhp vette we are all over that stupid shit talking. if you knew how to read it was stated we MIGHT be there and will NOT be running. k please

Will... Learn, counter responses like that gets you flamed like 10 folds then to just leaving it alone. Now this thread will have at least another 1/2 page worth of BS to skip through.

this thread is 3 pages of skipable BS anyhow jeff. its toyotafag and sir wrecksalot. at the very least they may accomplish what smoothcrim never did, which is a DSM that actually runs for a few days.
