First track sounds almost exactly like Constant Motion by Dream Theater. The best track IMO is Broken Beat & Scarred.
9/3/2008 7:52:12 PM
^ that is a damn good song. I'm not sure yet what song is my favorite. There are a couple that I know I like and a few that I know will grow on me with more listens
9/4/2008 11:15:49 PM
I only got to listen to a few last night on the radio premier due to the Skins game. I really like All Nightmare Long.
9/5/2008 8:01:42 AM
You can listen to the 6 they played on the radio on Metallica.com (The Day that Never Comes, My Apocolypse, Cyanide, All Nightmare Long, Broken, Beat and Scarred, and The Judas Kiss)

^Thanks, I am a Metclub member so I usually just visit that site. Weird that they did not include it on the exclusive site.
9/5/2008 11:09:03 AM
i havent really listened to much of thier stuff since the black album, but i do remember a documentary where kirk was chilling at home in his practice area playing some blues.. it would be cool if he released an album with more shit like that on it..
9/5/2008 11:23:08 AM
I just realized how awesome the Judas Kiss song isBOW DOWN!

I'm a big fan of what I have heard so far.Unforgiven 3 is a little 'meh', but other than that the songs have been pretty kick ass IMO.
9/11/2008 9:24:51 AM
I'm picking my copy up today at lunch, can't wait.
9/12/2008 10:59:54 AM
So how is it? Like the old stuff or like Load?
9/12/2008 11:41:50 AM
it tries to be the old stuff but sounds like its mixed with rock from the 2000s
9/12/2008 1:19:03 PM
you can hear the whole thing on metallica.com if you dont' want to buy itI think its a pretty solid album
9/12/2008 1:28:32 PM
I just picked up the CD and the LP at Best Buy. The LP was only 14.99. Album kicks ass!
9/12/2008 1:49:47 PM
I love it. I still need to let a couple of the songs that just got released grow on me, but all in all I think it's their most solid effort in a long time (and I'm a fan of everything they've put out, even St. Anger)For the haters to come:You've been saying for years that Metallica has sucked or gone in the wrong direction since Master of Puppets, or since Justice, or since the Black Album...so after 15-20 they have finally listened to you and gone the direction you want....so what do you complain about? It sounds like they TRIED to rock out old school but it's not the same, or it sounds like too mixed with other stuff, or Hetfield's voice isn't the same...It's 2008, it's been 20 years of musical influence since then, and they're 44 years old now. Did you expect a twin album to the last one you loved?
9/12/2008 3:06:42 PM
I'd say so far my favorite songs are Broken Beat and Scarred, My Apocolypse, The Judas Kiss, and believe it or not, The Unforgiven IIIdouble post...oh well (I'm padding)
9/12/2008 4:18:47 PM
My stupid CD player in my car stopped working this week. Of all the weeks to break it had to pick this one.
9/12/2008 4:47:28 PM
downloading off itunes as we speak. and guys saint anger sucked as a cd but it rocked live... I know, shocked me too.
9/12/2008 7:05:55 PM
Listened to it on the way back home tonight, I like it. Pretty decent album.
9/13/2008 12:51:02 AM
I never do this.Once I get pissed at a band, they are blacklisted forever. GNR, Nickelback, Creed. Fuck 'em.But, what I heard tonight was incredible. I am annoyed that you picked possibly the worst track to debut on the radio, but you made up for it. You reminded us that you are, in fact, Metallica, and you do own this bitch, and none of us would be here without you.Lars.James.It's cool. I forgive you. We can be friends again.
9/13/2008 3:46:41 AM
Nickelback and Creed? When did they piss you off? When they first formed and started to come out with music? 'Cause that's when they pissed me off. Yeah, they probably did pick the weakest song to debut. I thought the instrumental song was pretty weak and I just can't get around thinking of STP's Creep when I hear Unforgiven III. Other than that the album is pretty good. Definitely better than St. Anger and Reload.
9/13/2008 9:57:09 AM
To me, its the best since the black album.
9/13/2008 12:01:13 PM
Metallica has sucked since they released Ride the Lightning. power ballads? I mean really, what the fuck is this gay-ass "Fade to Black" power ballad poseur bullshit. are they hoping kids will dance to this at prom??Cry more, emo fags.

This album is fantastic. I feel you about the cd player breaking...mine broke right before I pulled up to the store to buy the fucking album.
9/13/2008 5:32:45 PM
^I agree it is the best they have put out in years. U can download it on itunes.
9/13/2008 11:40:35 PM
tentative thumbs up
9/14/2008 9:41:30 PM
after listening to it for a few days...it fucking ownsJust when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!
9/15/2008 11:59:13 AM
HUGE step up from st. anger which I liked 0 songs from, still doesnt do much for me despite a handful of songs being decent. :/ i think its more that, despite some of the songs being good (and some of their best guitarwork in a longtime) its still been done better by themselves before.production is absolutely terrible, flat, and nonorganic too which didnt help me at all but Im not going to blame that all on them.[Edited on September 15, 2008 at 12:24 PM. i think it's pretty good toothe only thing that really frustrates me sometimes are james' lyricsand i think i might make an alternative cover for it....i'm tired of looking at this toilet bowl
9/15/2008 1:31:44 PM
haha, looks like im not the only one that thinks the recording/mixing/mastering on this sounds absolutely horrendous. He pretty much says exactly what I thought when listening and what I stated earlier. It has no dynamics.http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/09/does-metallicas.html

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/09/18/fans-complain-after-death-magnetic-sounds-better-on-guitar-hero-than-cd/#more-7581You can torrent the guitar hero files in FLAC format and check it out.
9/18/2008 9:31:42 PM
Not much into this stuff, way too hard sounding for me, but I went to their website to sample the tracks, as I am an audiophile and wanted to check out this uproar over the quality. Can't make an assessment based on streaming content though - there's this crackling sound accompanying it...
9/18/2008 11:02:02 PM
^They had some terrible quality mp3s on their website as a pre-release. They later updated it, but it really did hurt my ears to listen to it. The album wasn't quite as bad, but it's still entirely too loud.I got a copy of the FLAC files from GH3. MUCH better sounding than the CD and the MP3s they made available on their website.

^5So the guy has a lot of pride in putting his name on a product but he can't complain about the mix quality before the album comes out and everyone complains.
9/19/2008 12:24:13 PM
Damn, I might have to go out and buy this one based on the replies in this thread. But maybe after the re-mix it
9/19/2008 3:34:15 PM
A funny thing about the new album, there's no profanity. Literally none.Funny how with St. Anger they were saying "look guys, we are hardcore again, listen to how many times we say the F word!"Now, it's "Look guys, we are hardcore again, we are actually playing thrash metal!"
