i would have preferred he stay true to the ending, but i can't fault him. people are gonna go WTF at a giant squid; it really does come out of nowhere.from what i understand, the changed ending accomplishes the same things (mass murder to prevent a war, dr. manhattan's exile).

i think i heard that*SPOILER*Dr. Manhattan actually helps Ozymandias construct this WMD?end spoiler[Edited on November 13, 2008 at 8:38 PM. Reason : .]

i think he does, but unwittingly.[Edited on November 13, 2008 at 8:51 PM. Reason : .]
11/13/2008 8:51:17 PM
I see.Either way, I'm still excited.I'm not too upset about the squid absence.Plz2not change anything else major.
11/13/2008 8:52:20 PM
If Dr. Manhattan helps him I don't see how that changes things drastically. When they learn of the entire plan Manhattan (the only one with the power to actually do anything about it) agrees with him, which also leads to the death or Rorschach.I can't find it at the moment but I remember reading that the part of the ending involving Rorschach has also been changed. I don't know if that means he isn't killed, the journal isn't sent or read, or anything else. Those possibilities have me more worried than the absence of the squid.
11/13/2008 9:43:21 PM
yeah, his death is probably more shocking to me than the squid. they definitely can't change that or i'll be pissed.[Edited on November 13, 2008 at 9:59 PM. Reason : .]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I0LfvSJchkinterview with zack snyder about the ending. no really big spoilers (other than what was confirmed here), but there is some sort of allusion tospoiler warningozy doesn't get away with it - i think what will happen from what he said in the interview is rorshach brings ozymandias/dr. manhattan to justice instead of sending in his journal
11/13/2008 9:51:42 PM
if rorschach doesn't die then they may have ruined it.
11/13/2008 10:00:28 PM
I wonder how this will affect the comedian's plotline. I suppose he could still find out about Ozymandias' plot, thus leading to his murder

11/14/2008 12:20:25 PM
that trailer was pretty damn awesome.the use of "watchmen" to refer to themselves is annoying. i'm just crossing my fingers that they don't deviate any further from the graphic novel.

12/15/2008 5:58:24 PM
yeah i did too when i first saw the trailer
12/15/2008 6:41:06 PM
wow, that trailer from comic con really shows some great stuff...
12/16/2008 2:20:58 PM
I just can't wrap my mind around an event of similar magnitude that wouldn't be just as unbelieveable for the uninitiated as the squid is. Ozy can't nuke the city, for instance; we'd think the Russians did it.I guess that's why I'm typing on TWW instead of writing screenplays.
12/16/2008 2:25:31 PM
I think the idea is to have Ozy "nuke" multiple cities around the world. You can see in one of the earlier trailers that the explosion is blue, which either mimics Manhattan, or actually is him. The idea is to make the world unite against him/it/God.This can sort of work with the original ending because:1. Manhattan is the only one who actually has any power to stop/rectify Ozy's plan when they all learn of it, but he agrees with him and doesn't do so.2. The world has progressively gotten more and more frightened of Manhattan.3. Manhattan is perfectly ok at this point with being exiled from Earth, so he's fine with playing the scapegoat.
12/16/2008 2:50:51 PM
but if it's as simple as exiling manhattan and it's something he goes along with, does that keep all the nations of the world happy with one another for long enough for the plan to really matter?
12/16/2008 2:52:24 PM
Rorschach's journal man, Rorschach's journal. It all depends on what is done with the journal. The same question can be asked of the squid. Is one alien "attack" enough to keep the world united, or would it require a constant threat?[Edited on December 16, 2008 at 3:07 PM. Reason : .]
12/16/2008 2:59:45 PM
there's no guarantee that anyone would ever read it
12/16/2008 3:06:24 PM
yeah, that's the point. Even if somebody reads it will they be able to decipher it. And more importantly, do we as the reader even want them to read it.
12/16/2008 3:09:11 PM
i always thought the point of the squid being so bizarre was that everyone would be so confused and startled that they'd be on edge for yearsfirst of all, giant killer squidsecond of all, it fucking teleported into nyca bunch of blue explosions, get rid of manhattan, and we're back to business as usual
12/16/2008 3:11:23 PM
but if manhattan was behind it, its not like anyone could stop him

eh im sure it wont be delayed tooooo long. although i dont see this movie being very good anyway... i cant imagine its structure translating well to the screen..
12/26/2008 2:51:10 AM
all talk re: Rorschach's journal and Ozy being brought to justice-It seems like everyone is assuming that in the comic, the messages of the journal get widely distributed or something ... I thought the point was that the comic's conclusion was completely open-ended, yeah?I always liked the thought that, even should fat burger man choose and publish the journal, it'd be widely interpreted as the nonsensical ramblings of a washed-up ex-vigilante ...[Edited on December 29, 2008 at 9:27 AM.
