I just bought a humidor and some tinderbox tobacco as well. Gonna fire up the pipe tonight.I'm a total n00b to both cigars and pipes, but I enjoy a nice cigar every now and then.

I had one until I sat on it while camping. Great relaxing pipe and has a real cool smoke, which is good when you're just getting started.I'm also becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Perdomo cigars. I haven't had a bad one yet and they're exceptionally reasonably priced for the quality.http://www.perdomocigars.com/

I had a Perdomo last night....good smoke.

The one thing that beats all (well almost all) is enjoying a nice cigar while standing Officer of the Deck on a surfaced submarine at night in calm seas. I've got a "travel" humidor, and I'm looking for a table-top at home humidor and was wondering what you guys recommended in terms of brand and websites.Thanks.

I sail a lot, and love nothing more than smoking the pipe while doing so. That said, ^ your situation takes top shelf.[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 9:24 PM. Reason : dd]

12/29/2009 6:43:17 AM
between 25 and 75 count

lookin to get into a decent pipe. Dont want to spend more than about $35.

i partake in the occasional pipe smoke, but hate the way my mouth tastes like an ashtray for the rest of the day. am i doing it wrong?
1/1/2010 8:10:36 PM
just had my first don pepin el rey de los habanos, and it really rivaled the cubans i had a while back. incredibly smooth, without the wretched aftertaste. pricey at $8 a stick, but highly recommended

came to my folks' house in FL because my grandma died this week, so I thought I would hit up some cigar stores...found a decent one and got a 20-ct humidor with 5 cigars and punch/butane torch lighter, 10 cigars, and one cigar box for $50...
1/8/2010 10:06:40 PM
sounds like you got a pretty good deal
1/9/2010 11:26:36 AM
if you guys have the time, i highly recommend following the link to express your concerns over such an absurd tax increase on pipe tobacco...http://news.tobaccoreviews.com/index.php/2010/02/01/regarding-hr-4439/#utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=regarding-hr-4439

I'm calling today, that is ridiculous but I fully expect it to pass. Congress needs the money and pipe smokers simply aren't a big enough constituency.

just finished a Punch Rothschild Maduro this evening. wow. a great smoking cigar for cheap.had a nice, even burn and super tight ash with great flavor. will buy again.
2/12/2010 7:19:27 PM
when I was in FL, I got 5 La Gloria Cubanas and I finished my last one yesterday...I really liked the flavor...I also got 10 camachos and they are

just got a nub-connecticut and two la aromas cubas
2/14/2010 12:12:45 AM
Two weeks ago I smoked one of the Aromas and got my first cigar buzz...then proceeded to vomit.I'm in the ROK right now and went to a restaurant the other evening that was selling some cubans...may pick up a few before I leave.

If you want a really stong but really good smoke try a Gurkha Warlord or an Ashton VSG. Just make sure you have eaten before you smoke it

Anybody have any experience seasoning humidors? I'm guessing so since most of you seem to have your own. Any tips? And how do you know if your hygrometer is calibrated correctly?[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 10:24 PM. Reason : sarsdardsa]

Honestly, I just went by this guide here: http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Archives/CA_Show_Article/0,2322,449,00.html
7/21/2010 9:13:43 PM
that's exactly what i did, but i don't think i used enough water. the humidity isn't quite high enough.i'm trying again tonight. we'll see how it goes...
7/23/2010 9:23:07 PM
I had to do it a couple times the first time and once every few months in the winter.
7/23/2010 10:13:44 PM
ahh, ok. i thought i did something wrong. we'll see how it works out this time.
7/23/2010 10:32:34 PM
Yeah, it takes a while to seep in there. If you're putting dry-ish cigars in there, you might have to treat it again briefly since they'll suck that moisture into them.13 years ago yesterday I bought my first pipe from Pipes By George. As is my custom, I smoked it again yesterday albeit with Blue Note instead of the MV-1000 which first graced its bowl.

so i just got my humidor box out of the closet of my parent's house the other night. It hasn't been conditioned or seasoned in a very long time and the last time it wasn't very good. It's just a basic Thompson Co. box but it's nice. So what's the best way to season this thing. I read the humidor thread that's 5 years old which leaned towards heavily moistured wipings over 72 hours. I distinctly remember the first time I seasoned I used the shot glass method and it never really seemed to soak in. Thoughts? Also, I need a good box of cigars to put in there when it's ready. Something not too expensive as i'll hand them out and smoke somewhat regularly. Thoughts? I've enjoyed R&Js, Fuente, C. Rey, Onyx, but i'm not too up on what's great these days.

splurged a little bit here recently and bought myself one of these badasses. i highly recommend both the wood filter and the long stem for wonderfully smooth smoking.savinelli prince of wales

to your questions, i don't have the answers, but my friend if you are in raleigh you need to just stop in at pipes by george and ask george himself what he thinks should be done. guy knows his shit and is the nicest shopowner i've ever encountered.
6/9/2011 11:01:39 AM
not in raleigh any longer. PbG was a regular stop when i was.
6/9/2011 11:30:34 AM
I go to Charlie's Tobacco Shop on Park Road. Nice selection and good people. Also, next door to a Chinese place.
6/9/2011 11:32:24 AM
cool, i'll keep that one in mind.
6/9/2011 11:49:11 AM
every time i see this thread near the top i long for a good, fat cigarmaybe tonight will be the night
6/9/2011 1:11:52 PM
yeah i still have a few days until my humidor is ready, but I may stop and pick a few up tonight.
6/9/2011 1:58:37 PM
i should just go home and spend the day sitting on my porch drinking whiskey and smoking my pipe.that's all i'm going to be able to think of now.
6/9/2011 2:12:20 PM
I'm about the fact that my humidifier malfunctioned and got the inside of my humidor too wet and cracked the corner...now it won't seal up and hold humidity
6/9/2011 5:43:17 PM
What humidifier product should I get this time around? The previous time I used the standard round one with the green florist block inside and it never worked well. I hear the gels are good. Do you recommend the Boveda packets or the gels you refill with humidifier solution?
6/10/2011 8:24:30 AM
I have a paradigm 50 that i love.My FIL uses the gels and loves them.
6/10/2011 10:10:25 AM
^thats my next purchase
6/10/2011 11:24:22 AM
well damn, maybe i'll pick one up. Will just have to limit my cigar haul this go round.

6/10/2011 12:17:39 PM
^ nice. this is the first non-basket pipe that i've owned so i can't say if it's better than other nice pipes, but i love mine. i justified the price by telling myself that i'll smoke that pipe for decades, so hopefully it lasts a while on me.
6/10/2011 12:27:44 PM
I've got a 1996 Peterson that I bought in 1997 that I still smoke to this day. If you get a quality pipe, take care of it (and don't sit on it) you should be fine.
