well.. you gotta take these things into account. If it was a normal Carolina student, would it have been this big a deal? Would Carolina players have worn a patch on their jerseys for a regular student? So, yes, I stand by my comment. Go back to Chit Chat troll.

^^ I think most people would be just as empathetic about Hansbrough as they are about Carson. They just wouldn't lie about it.^ I'm not trolling. You are the one who stated that she deserved more empathy because she is 'gorgeous'--implying that ugly people aren't as deserving of pity when tragedy befalls them. Sounds pretty shallow to me.[Edited on March 9, 2008 at 12:00 PM. Reason : ]

Seriously, people are shot every day, this one just happened to be a promising pretty white girl.
3/9/2008 12:06:32 PM
that was the student body president of unc
3/9/2008 12:10:14 PM
would you say that to your dad if he called you and told you that your mom was murdered?
3/9/2008 12:11:38 PM
I assume you're addressing me? No, but that is partly the point I'm making. It is a tragedy to someone every time.^^ I covered that in the "promising" part.I don't mean to denigrate her life or memory at all, but there is justification in those who are angry that people are killed in the ghetto every day, who could be quite promising, but no one notices. It takes a pretty, rich, white girl getting killed in a rich white town to make national news.Hopefully, if this is gang related, that comes to light and we address the underlying problem of gangs across the US instead of just in our safe suburban neighborhoods.
3/9/2008 12:16:29 PM
i bet the media would cover any student body president getting murdered
3/9/2008 12:18:38 PM
So, do you think it would be one of the top stories on CNN if the St. Aug student body president got murdered? How about NC A&T, or Howard, or any other traditionally black college? The only way that would get this kind of coverage is if they had been murdered in a rural county by a group of white men.]
3/9/2008 12:25:27 PM
At least the suspect is not a dude wearing croakies, and a pink polo shirt with a popped collar, they'd never be able to find him in Chapel Hill.
3/9/2008 1:21:41 PM
^hey man, that's a funny joke! Have you ever thought of doing standup or some sort of comedy writing with your unique comedic style?

I agree with A Tanzarian. To be honest, I really don't care. I recognize that murder is wrong, hope the guy gets caught, etc, etc, but if I don't have time to care about every single murder victim I'm not going to make time to care about this one.
3/9/2008 3:43:14 PM
i am interested in it from a forensics standpoint

JCASHFAN is about as racist as terpball... shame.
3/9/2008 4:00:01 PM
3/9/2008 4:03:40 PM
people will only care if they are involved.the students at UNC care because it as their president. i care only because i work in chapel hill and this means i have to watch myself if i go out at nights over there.if jackleg died, im sure a lot of us would care. but someone at UNC probably wouldnt.
3/9/2008 4:16:16 PM
holy shit, jackleg died?
3/9/2008 4:27:36 PM
3/9/2008 4:37:22 PM
^ well you are emphasizing the racial part a little too much, a large part of the media coverage is just how unexpected this was, an important girl at a major university in a very crime free area whereas the places you are suggesting this is much more common placeplus I'm sorry but some girl that is the leader of her student population, community activist/ future doctor has more of a future/hence more tragic than some drug dealer in the ghetto
3/9/2008 4:42:37 PM
this whole thing should have nothing to do with race. honestly it pisses me off that anybody even cares that the girl was white, or whatever color. look at who she was, not what she looked like.

[quoteI wonder if they did a tox screen. I wonder if she was going out for pot.[/quote]of course they did, why would they not do a toxicology?as for all the people bitching that its just a white girl whats the big deal... get a grip, call your momma, someone loves you.
3/9/2008 5:54:23 PM
It has nothing to do with being white. It has to do with the implication that Carson's life is somehow worth more than others.
3/9/2008 5:57:56 PM
she can't help it how much you read into the tv news. i feel bad for her friends and family, but i never thought anything negative due to the fact that it got coverage. that's just senseless
3/9/2008 6:49:50 PM
HAY GUYZ I AM ON THE INTERNETS COMBATING EMOTION WITH LOGIC LOL
3/9/2008 7:24:17 PM
white people make up the majority of the population....therefore chances are that if the media decides to cover a murder, its gonna be a white person.....i distinctly remember a few years ago having a discussion in the soapbox where we tried to figure out why black people are more likely to commit violent crimes than whites (going by the US Justice Departments data on crimes commited in the US).......why dont yall take the conversation back to the box and leave this thread alone.this is an absolute tragedy....

3/9/2008 11:22:26 PM
if a black girl, who was student body president and had the same deal as eve was murdered.it would have the same media coverage, PLUS they would think it was a hate crime.a black guy murders a white girl. oh its just random.a black girl gets murdered by white guy, oooh hate crime.
3/9/2008 11:30:15 PM
nahseveral white guysthen it's a hate crime
3/9/2008 11:38:16 PM
i find it extremely odd that 2 random hot white bitches that go to college get murdered by african americans like the same day....thats some hella crazy odds[Edited on March 9, 2008 at 11:46 PM. Reason : college]
3/9/2008 11:46:12 PM
3/10/2008 12:18:41 AM
that was a whole mess of stupid
3/10/2008 12:29:41 AM
3/10/2008 1:48:47 AM
my only problems with all this:the only problem i have with this coverage is that they just spent the first 7 minutes of the news talking about it. and now they're talking about the crime here in greensboro that happened over the weekend. board of trustees jumping to offer so much money for information. i can't remember them doing that when other people have died... i realize she was one of their own, and had a "vote" because she was a SBP at a member school. i think this is a bigger issue than the news focusing on her so much "because she's a pretty white girl" -- because the news is the news and they are private. and ive always been under the impression that the board of trustees is funded by taxes and tuition increasesbut i'm not gonna be a douchebag and take that out on the girl, because no one deserves to get shot like that. even if she was down there killing kittens and smoking crack. i think you have to keep that in mind when discussing the aspects that affect those of us who didn't know her. its still pretty sad (just like it would be if it was anyones daughter, regardless of color)
3/10/2008 6:15:47 AM
are we sure that the board of trustees are using public funds for the 25K and not part of their personal fortunes?[Edited on March 10, 2008 at 7:23 AM. Reason : -]
