COOPERS!
8/1/2009 12:41:59 AM
i think your barbque needs some italian seasoning
8/1/2009 1:03:36 AM
Coopers BBQ is bland and their sauces are weak. IMO, the only reason people go there is because of its location, history, and out of habit. The pit is great, but my favorite in Raleigh is Ole Time. Lexington BBQ FTW.
8/1/2009 1:30:53 PM
last time i went to "The Pit" (bout a month ago) the service was so rude, horrendous and neglectful (and i looked around me at the other tables and they was in a similar state of sorry affairs) that i'm never going backwhen it comes to BBQ, the cool cats can have this joint... i'm sticking with places that have ceramic pigs driving tractors sitting on shelves[Edited on August 1, 2009 at 2:16 PM. Reason : PUT YER PANTS ON MOTHERFUCKER]
8/1/2009 2:13:19 PM

8/1/2009 2:59:42 PM
without reading any other comments on this thread:the pit is fucking great. the mint juleps are win, the bbq is win (I usually get pulled but the chopped is better here), and the ribs fall of the bonethe pit = win

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
8/1/2009 4:37:12 PM
obligatory "Ole Time is garbage" post(I probably already posted that in this thread )
8/1/2009 4:38:34 PM
probablyit's old enoughhere's something i posted in here about a year and a half ago
8/1/2009 4:40:01 PM
Ate there for the first time yesterday,The bbq was okay, the pulled/chopped pork is all the same as any other pulled/chopped pork to me.The brisket however, was awesome. I really wanted ribs, but they did not have any available from like 6-7pm. My dad gave them hell
8/1/2009 4:56:23 PM
my parents went to The Pit last night and said it was fucking packed
8/1/2009 5:13:24 PM

8/3/2009 10:33:58 AM
Ole Time BBQ is the best.
8/3/2009 10:41:16 AM
I haven't eaten there, but a bartender did piss me off when I ordered a dopplebock and he tried to correct my pronunciation. He did come back later and apologize after someone else corrected him, but still.
8/3/2009 10:42:59 AM
He was just trying to correct you so that you wouldn't sound like an asshole the next time you ordered. Little did he know that he was the asshole. I like to know the correct pronunciation of what I order.
8/3/2009 10:45:24 AM
how many different ways could you think to pronounce dopplebock??i can't even think of another way to say it.
8/3/2009 10:47:03 AM
8/3/2009 11:00:02 AM
lol. what a jackass of a noob bartender.my pet peeve is bartenders/servers who prounounce "Heffe - Wise - En" even after people make a point to pronounce it slowly and correctly in front of them
8/3/2009 11:08:31 AM
I hung out with one of their main cooks several weeks ago on the back patio at Sitti(I guess she is a sous chef?)... she seemed pretty cool and seemed to know her shit

8/3/2009 12:36:51 PM
it decent, but over priced. worth a one time visit, but not enough to go back. would hardly label it great or even good.
8/3/2009 12:52:32 PM
I'MMA STICK TO MY CROCK POT BBQ THEN SON.
8/3/2009 12:57:09 PM
PM me recipe son.I R SERIOUS
8/3/2009 1:04:02 PM
I'll find it for you and PM it son. I know all of the ingredients but I can't remember the quantities off the top of my head son. You're gonna need a crock pot, vinegar, sugar, salt, black pepper, ground red pepper, diced tomato (Canned works fine son, it's BBQ), worcestershire sauce, chicken (Or pork or beef or whatever son). I think that's about it son. Might be something else I'm forgetting but I don't think so. I'll get you the quanTITTIES soon son. ]
8/3/2009 1:14:34 PM
that sounds about rightyou might want to try apple cider vinegar in there instead of just vinegar- and I like some hot sauce in there tooi've also seen people use brown sugar instead of plain sugar, and some people add a little catsup in there too[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 1:21 PM. Reason : more]
8/3/2009 1:20:11 PM
Yeah, that is definitely going to be more tasty than the clear vinegar IMO, although both work. Oh and I'mma definitely try the brown sugar this time btw. I pretty much always prefer it in other food products anyway so I'm sure I'd like it in BBQ! ]
8/3/2009 1:21:09 PM
^^^^^ never thought i would say it, but my impression of saabturbo has just bumped up a few notches[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 1:22 PM. Reason : ]
8/3/2009 1:22:17 PM
^^yeah- when making chili for hotdogs or burger (not chili you would be eating in a bowl, but just as topper), I like to use brown sugar and molasses in there... gotta be careful how much you use though because I've definitely gone overboard with it before[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 1:24 PM. Reason : ^]
8/3/2009 1:24:11 PM
damn there are some pretentious bbq/restaurant snobs in hereyou fuckers need to relax
8/3/2009 1:39:36 PM
I stopped in at the Skylight Inn a couple of weeks ago when I was in Ayden and thought it was pretty 'meh'. I have yet to try B's though, but the best pig I think I will ever have was at a tailgating event and cooked by a buddy's friend from back home who apparently caters and what not. Perfection. There's a couple of places in Chapel Hill that made it into (either Maxim or Men's Health I can't remember) for their BBQ deliciousness. The article also declared the typical vinegar based eastern NC style to be the winner.I think most can agree however that tomato based = fail.
8/3/2009 1:50:43 PM
I went. I was a fan. Worth a visit to decide for yourself.
8/3/2009 2:02:37 PM
The Pit was on a Travel Channel show where some guy goes around trying to break food eating records at different places. He just went to the pit to show off Raleigh's eastern NC BBQ. It hooked me and my dad. We're going this Saturday.
8/3/2009 4:44:53 PM
you are talking about Man versus Food and conquered the Roast Grill ChallengeThe Pit was also featured on The Food Networks' show Throw Down with Bobby Flay where Bobby challenged ole Ed to a Carolina Rib cook off
8/3/2009 5:07:15 PM
^is correctand the guy who previously had the record came back like the next day and broke it again... ate one more hot dog that the tv guy did... thing is, you have an hour to do it, and the new record was done in like 27 minutes (18 hot dogs i believe). If anyone breaks it, that guy will probably keep coming back to re-break it again and again

8/3/2009 5:14:12 PM
the sweet potato fries were good. chopped pork plate (eastern) was ok. slaw sucked.verdict: i still like parker's better.
8/3/2009 5:14:48 PM
i have always found loads of humor on the Roast Grills sign outside especially being right across from a gay club.
8/3/2009 5:17:09 PM
I actually ate there for the first time several weekends ago... it was pretty good, especially for the price. And it is like entering a room that time has forgotten (with the exception of the flat screen tv)
8/3/2009 5:20:03 PM
lol if you think their set-up is old schoolcheck out their websitehttp://roastgrill.com/
8/3/2009 5:23:21 PM
8/3/2009 5:33:35 PM
there is actually another website for that place as well, but it isn't much better
8/3/2009 5:36:28 PM
I assume when people refer to Parkers it's both located in Wilson and has absolutely no affiliation with the quasi-chain in Greenville. Because the latter is sub-par at best. I've not had any from wiltsun
8/3/2009 5:40:45 PM
i've heard it was amazing. really really really want to go!!
8/3/2009 5:42:16 PM
