Another milestone passed: Over 1400 people now registered with still a week to go. This is becoming unlike any other event in the world.
1/20/2008 10:50:46 PM
I still say 15,000.
1/20/2008 11:19:04 PM
hah, it would be a disaster if it reached 15,000. another thing David -- we put your trailer on our website, front and center. Thanks for all your contributions!
1/20/2008 11:41:53 PM
Glad I could help publicize. It's a great event.
1/21/2008 12:04:20 AM

1/21/2008 1:04:57 AM

is it illegal to basically crunch up the doughnuts and get most of the glaze off of them before you eat? i would think the glaze is the heaviest part, without that it's just bread and some oil...[Edited on January 21, 2008 at 8:41 AM. Reason : ]

I don't think you can really prevent some of the glaze from coming off because it's on there so thick and usually hard, so it just crumbles off when people mash them up.

you need to get a new sponsor. promoting obesity with the guise of helping little children is a bit disturbing. Im sure you can get new sponsors now, since its obviously gotten bigger.
1/21/2008 5:26:53 PM
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the Krispy Kreme Challenge then and no one would care.
1/21/2008 5:29:15 PM
^^ The "eating donuts" part is what got me interested in the event. They say you don't have to eat them if you don't want. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are promoting obesity--- its not like eating 12 donuts all that much different than drinking 12 beers in terms of your health and plenty of students do that every weekend. The website for the event makes it perfectly clear exactly how many calories, fats, carbs, etc you are consuming.[Edited on January 21, 2008 at 5:31 PM. Reason : ^]

1/21/2008 7:13:50 PM

1/21/2008 9:36:52 PM

1/21/2008 11:07:20 PM
There is a schedule up on the website:http://www.krispykremechallenge.com/index.php?page_id=77Plan on getting to the belltower at around 8:30 8:45, especially if you want a good place in line. 1600+ people in line is one long line. Check the brickyard this week to pick up your race number and t-shirt early, if not, come earlier to the belltower to check in. There will be some short opening remarks starting at around 8:55am, and we are going to start the race asap after that, between 9 and 9:10am.

Hey Nick, good to see you here. I gotta figure out a way to get KKC started at Stanford. Haven't spotted any nearby Krispy Kreme stores though. Heh.
1/22/2008 2:52:55 AM
1800+ registrants! Think about the children!
1/22/2008 11:52:12 PM
man after watching the videos that looks like a whole lot of fun... and i never really discovered the joy that is the HOT LIGHT at krispy kreme until i got to greensboro. you should try branching out next year and get different cities in the area involved. i dont know if they have a KK near UNCG, but there's one up near my house, and there are a bunch of 20somethings in my area that would enjoy something like that. shit i'll be a 30something later this year
1/23/2008 12:43:54 AM
1/23/2008 1:44:22 AM
1849 registrants o.O
1/23/2008 7:56:02 AM
2000 would be a nice round number.
1/23/2008 9:10:19 AM
i'm going to the brickyard later to pick up my shit for this
1/23/2008 9:17:12 AM
the line in the brickyard spans the entire thing.crazy
1/23/2008 11:20:55 AM
mrfrog, are you cereal? Is the line really that long?Man, we need to get some more volunteers out there. I'll see what I can do. I'm over in California now.
1/23/2008 12:41:24 PM
no i'm not cereal, cereal can't post to TWW.And yes, the line was LONG at about noon and it looked like a huge wait. I just did it online instead.1985 registered so far...[Edited on January 23, 2008 at 5:04 PM. Reason : ]

i picked up my shit at 1:30 and it was like a 30 second waitok got a quick question for those that have done it? how is the terrain? i figure its fairly flat, just wondering if there are any hills...when i run at lake johnson i try to do the hills first cause after that its fairly flat...just wondering if i should go full speed at the start or go kinda easy and prepare for some hills that may comealso, i know a couple calf stretches but my calfs are seriously hurting right now...ran a full lap at lake johnson yesterday with my dog, and walked today with my dog...anyone know what i should do? how long i should stretch, etc...and will taking a bunch of protein help speed them up?i thought about it...4 miles in an hour is like a somewhat slow walk speed for me...if i jog and get there in say 22 minutes, and takes me 8 minutes to eat 12 donuts, that gives me 30 minutes to get back...i dont think this will be that hard...kinda wish i woulda signed up as a challenger rather than casual
1/23/2008 5:29:43 PM
it's downhill for a good part towards the store. makes the return trip much more grueling. so i hear.
1/23/2008 5:38:32 PM
ah man that sucks :/
1/23/2008 5:42:34 PM
2000
1/23/2008 5:54:57 PM
Drunknloaded - here is a post by Tfinch from p. 2. You can upgrade from casual to challenger.
1/23/2008 8:11:45 PM
I've never run more than 2 miles in sub 50 degree temperatures. Any tips?
1/23/2008 10:06:31 PM
You won't feel the cold after you move around and break a sweat. Just keep moving. Before you know it, you will be thinking more about the doughnuts than the temperature. Consider going for a little warm up jog before the race.
1/23/2008 10:17:39 PM
People think that cold temperatures make running outdoors torture, but really it's just a matter of moving. I"ve been out this week at 6am in shorts and been fine. The only thing that doesn't fair well for me is my hands. They get frosty really quick if I don't wear gloves.
1/23/2008 11:00:44 PM
you def realize there's a downhill on the way to the store, and you definitely feel it coming from glenwood on the way back. if you're running it (actually physically running) you'll pass a lot of people who either walked the challenge or had to walk due to fatigue.your legs won't feel cold in sub 50 temps, your upper body will. especially your hands. i always wore gloves before i wore pants. but you're not gonna want gloves with KK doughtnuts my temp rulesbelow 55 - add a long sleeved shirtbelow 40 - add glovesbelow 30 - add pants

Sorry if you have dial-up. Since this seems to be a popular shot, I release this image into the public domain:
1/23/2008 11:44:33 PM
ok thanks for the tip futbol...i'll just eat all of them and show themanyone got some tips for calf stretching? mine are seriously in pain..i've stretched them a few times today doing the stretches i know but they still hurt like a bia...oh and how are we supposed to attach our race number? just get some string an put it through the small holes or is there a more simpler way i'm overlooking?]
1/24/2008 12:36:12 AM
Uh, most people use safety pins.
1/24/2008 12:38:47 AM
oh good thinking...i'll pick up some at the store tomorrow
