^^my company's department in charge of all this stuff has a policy of waiting till the very last minute to get these out...and the dumbest part was, they made the online version available only after they were mailed out
1/28/2008 8:42:14 AM
i claimed 0 for the 7months i worked in 07. i had about 10k taken out in fed/state so im hoping to get a big refund, and obviously ive adjusted my dependencies for 08 heh.
1/28/2008 9:19:33 AM
actually to follow up with that, any rough estimate %wise on the amount extra you see in your paycheck claiming 1 instead of 0?
1/28/2008 1:24:30 PM
~$1800
1/29/2008 5:10:20 PM
~$1800 for federal but i still have one W2 coming in but i do not think it'll effect it much
1/31/2008 5:11:12 PM
$3,149 federal coming in, w00t deductions this year Next year I'm gonna owe, just got paid and started a Savings account just for this reason.
1/31/2008 5:20:44 PM
What were yalls total deductions for the year?
2/1/2008 9:00:10 AM
Prior to listing deductions, $84 refund. After listing dependents, a little over $4k back.
2/1/2008 11:58:43 AM
my total deductions were somewhere around 20k. I need to adjust my withholdings a little more, because I still managed to get a refund this year. I'd rather be paying money than getting a refund.
2/1/2008 12:41:24 PM
-455 feds, -180 state
2/1/2008 1:05:51 PM
strangely enough...i owe money to the feds....get back about half of that from the state. weird year for taxes
2/1/2008 1:56:01 PM
looking like i will be getting about $1275 or so back
2/1/2008 1:59:51 PM
time for you to adjust your withholding
2/1/2008 2:07:42 PM
yea yea i know
2/1/2008 2:16:24 PM
2/1/2008 10:05:20 PM
i wish i understood what all this shit meant
2/1/2008 11:13:07 PM
^^ Link?
2/1/2008 11:25:13 PM
How long does it usually take to get a check if you get a refund?
2/2/2008 4:34:55 AM
my accountant is a dick! he is not creative at all. i need someone that will honestly help me figure out a way to not pay uncle sam HUGE. i will not mail that check until march 14th. anyone ever worked with a finical planner? i need some one who will help me figure out how to not end up owing so damn much. also i need to know things i can do during they year to help me out when tax time comes. planner or accountant?
2/2/2008 10:11:12 AM
I have a financial planner, but he doesn't do what you are talking about. What do you mean "creative"? Do you want him to get your ass in trouble so you get audited? You sound like those people who switch tax guys if you don't happen to get a big refund that year. If you don't want to owe so damn much you need to either pay more during the year, which is fucking stupid, or have other things to offset your income. Sell some losing stocks to offset gains. Buy a house and give stuff to charity if you want more deductions.
2/2/2008 11:05:21 AM
does anyone know how or if it's even possible to carry over deductions from one year to the next? specifically mortgage interest and charitable donations...
2/2/2008 1:17:23 PM
No, pretty sure you can't. You can kind of do the exact opposite by prepaying your January mortgage in Dec but that's about it as far as I know.
2/2/2008 2:07:06 PM
bout 1600 for me. not so bad.
2/2/2008 2:31:44 PM
about $1650. Calculated my net pay + my income taxes - medicare/ss = fed/state only took out ~$140 from my earnings.
2/2/2008 2:35:50 PM
looks like I will get around 400 back, and I will not adjust my withholdings, i would rather get money back then have to pay(like i had to do for both last year, so I adjusted them). I mean, 400, wow, all that interest I am missing out on....
2/2/2008 2:47:31 PM
Maybe $300.... I was hoping for more since I paid fucking $10K in mortgage interest last year bbbbut guess not[Edited on February 2, 2008 at 4:36 PM. Reason : and bought around march/april]
2/2/2008 4:36:11 PM
2/2/2008 5:10:18 PM
If you already give him necessary information about deductions for mileage, mortgage interest, chartable contributions, etc. what more do you expect?
2/2/2008 6:22:57 PM
hell i figured out on my own that i could deduct the interest on my vehicle on top of the mileage. that little detail there was worth 3K in deduction right there. i suppose i expect him to be the expert and the one that knows the laws. not me stumbling upon them.
2/2/2008 9:38:26 PM
So find a new tax guy.
2/2/2008 9:53:33 PM
i thought i would get money back from donating to charity. ha !
2/2/2008 10:46:07 PM
Here is the link to getting a credit in NC for charitable contributions:http://www.dornc.com/taxes/individual/charity.html
2/4/2008 10:25:10 PM
2/4/2008 10:29:54 PM
530 and 60Can't file till the 11th though because congress didnt get there shit together with AMT tax law this year (for some reason the form for education credits is impacted by this).
2/4/2008 10:48:08 PM
yeah so what is the deal for feb 11th and congress?
2/5/2008 2:15:18 AM
3861 fed1000 state
2/5/2008 7:27:56 AM
what the...that's insane
2/5/2008 8:06:14 AM
i bought a house mid year, had 10K in interest and then another 8K in mileage (my car allowance is taxable income)i really didn't want to adjust my witholdings mid year, id rather let it play out and then see how i can best optimize the witholdings for a full year.
2/5/2008 9:05:21 AM
I paid entirely too much, so ..... a lotYay
2/5/2008 8:19:21 PM
time for compound interest. i was going to say plasma tv, but there's no point.
2/5/2008 9:32:36 PM
that was last week
2/5/2008 10:09:41 PM
got any plasma's you want to donate?[Edited on February 5, 2008 at 10:38 PM. Reason : eh]

2/8/2008 3:37:51 PM
$400Single, no dependents.I was going to get a cool grand back (main job income last year < $20000), but the other earnings through my soccer referee gig and the unemployment I received brought my refund down b/c no federal taxes were held.At least I don't owe any money this year. Hopefully, next year will be the same.
2/8/2008 10:16:20 PM
42 dollars. Fuck giving uncle sam an interest free loan.
2/8/2008 10:18:43 PM
noone answered my querstion. They took out 272 from federal and 137 from state with one job....other job they took out 75 and 32. Both these jobs totals were less than 5 grand for the year. Should I get all that back? I also pay my own tuition, car payment, etc. etc. What advice can you give me? also if I do turbo tax I SHOULD get it back before February 29th right?
