Its called Fear Aggresion. The dog was scared and went into fight or flight mode.

Most go to flight, not this ahole!

My boss told me he was feeding the dog it's dinner and it charged at him trough the kennel. He doesn't think something is right but doesn't know what's up. He doesn't want to be cooped in that kennel!!!

For page 3!

Yeah, a girl at work was savaged by a Belgian Tervuren yesterday. And what was she doing to antagonize it? Nada. It went from chill to cujo then back to chill in like 5 seconds. This dog has issues though, it's owner's a moron because she's let the dog be crazy like this for 9 years and never really bothered to train it.

did you report the bite? in NC, the owners would then have to carry a minimum of $10k in liability insurance and put it down after a second reported bite.

^Kiwi doesn't live in NC, and we are waiting to officially report ours when the owner picks-up tomorrow.

They called the cops at the ER but when he arrived he goes "*sigh* So uh do you want to file anything?" I was like "Wha? We were told they have to be notified." and he was like "It's up to you." I didn't want to make a big public to do about it so I said his owners will be notified and no longer allowed at the facility so that's damage enough.

Lameeeeeee

just out of curiosity, could you describe the ER workup? did they start an IV or anything other than locally disinfecting and suturing? did they give you antibiotic prophylaxis? anything to watch out for in the recovery?

NO IV just local anesthetic which hurt like the biggest bitch in the planet. No antibiotics, just a clean sweep with soapy tissue and then some neosporin and gauze. One puncture would not stop bleeding, through my pants and dripping onto the floor so when we returned for the drug test I asked for more dressing.

Check up in 2 days, stitches out in 10. I'm supposed to let it drain, wash with soap and water couple times a day and apply neosporin. Today I was supposed to put ice on it and keep it elevated. I did the latter but the former hurt too much, only my hand swelled really badly anyways.

Doctor was anti meds, recommended tylenol for the pain which I definitely needed.

It hurt worse than the attack! After that I watched him stitch it up, was neat in a "why the fuck am I even here in this situation" way.

Funny story, I had to pee in a cup for the drug test for workers comp and I was bleeding all over the place and couldnt grip anything with my right hand, imagine the fun I had with that!!

you might want to keep an eye on that swelling, if they didnt already tell you that

dogs have some pretty nasty bacteria in their mouths, and even though they disinfected the bites as well as they could, there could still be some bugs (Yersinia spp.) deep in the wound. i honestly thought prophylactic amox/clav would be indicated for hand bites...

Pee looker!

Yeah when we went back the second time I specifically asked for an antibiotic as a preventative and he refused to give it to me. so I'm going to go to my own doctor and ask for some. My boss scared me by saying the last dog bite an employee had got infected with spinal meningitis! WTF???

I'm not usually a medicine person but when it's something that could turn nasty quick fucking give it to me.

Sleeping sucked last night because I wasn't supposed to put any pressure on it and I typically lay on my sides in fetal position. I'm super sore today, even the tetanus shop area hurts, just took some rapid release tylenol but damn. I think I'm getting sick too cause my throat hurts.

And I don't have the energy to find a fucking doctor in this area! Ugh!

After a dog has bitten somebody in NC, there is a time period for rabies observation (I think it's ten days). Is there something like this where you live, Kiwi?

If that's the case, where is the dog staying for it's rabies observation?

No they just asked if it's up to date on it's shots, for the animal to board with us they must have everything current.

Apparently we do!

Anyway my hand is still really swollen, any recommendations besides ice or why it's still like this 36 hours later?

i cant remember if you said you had puncture wounds on your hands...if so, i'd go see a doc ASAP. at least an urgent care should be able to get you some antibiotics. the last think you want is an easily treatable infection leading to compartment syndrome and having to have surgery

So did the dog get locked up or what?

The dog we had when I was little bit some old man that came in our yard while my sister was outside playing (1/2 German shepherd ). Animal control definitely came and was gonna pick it up to keep for 10 days (despite the fact the attack occurred in our yard against someone that was trespassing across the yard).

The only way my parents got it out of that was by promising to board it at our vets office and they definitely called to confirm it was there the next day. It cost over $150 just for the week of boarding but my mom did not want the dog catching some weird shit at the pound.

Always keep a knife on you.

And if that's not enough, an expanding baton or pistol. Your choice.

I believe I would have gone at the thing with knife drawn ready to kill the thing once I saw it attacking a coworker (especially attacking them all over).

The dog should be euthanized. Thousands of good dogs are put down every day, seems like it would be better to replace this one than deal with its issues.

I had a scratch on my hand but no puncture wound.

I'm seriously getting pissed off over this workmans comp thing, I can only go to certain doctors and HR is still waiting for that list even though I put the request in yesterday. I'm about ready to go back to the ER!!!
