James sounds like absolute ass and shit.

The rest of the band is really tight ... the new bassist is a badass.

Is it fair to refer to Trujillo as new still? I mean, he has been with them for years now.

fair enough

interesting place for them to play. the truth is that this festival is not really a hippie fest any more and yet it still has that "rep" in the that community. This must just be shocking to them.

Just got back, holy hell.

highlights for me that I can think of at the moment:

sigur ros
gogol bordello
broken social scene
superjam
ladytron
raconteurs
MGMT

lowlights:
Jack Johnson
Vampire Weekend(I like the band but they were pretty boring live imo)

I skipped pearl jam entirely to get a good spot for sigur ros and it was a great decision, they were amazing.

so then it was like 3 AM so i headed back to see the rest of kanye since he was supposed to start at 245 but he HADN'T started yet. the jumbotrons said "kanye now at 3:15."

so i waited and when it was like 3:23 the jumbotrons changed to "kanye now at 3:30"

so i waited and when it was like 3:40 I left. I heard he didn't go on til like 4:15 or 4:30 and that it wasn't a good show anyway.

from what i understand of the pearl jam show, you could have left, caught another show, come back, and they would have still been playing

I had no interest in seeing pearl jam whatsoever, and the spot i got for sigur ros was mad good and totally worth not seeing a band I don't care about at all.

plus no one was playing during most of pearl jam, so i dunno how you'd catch another show, lawl

was anyone present when kanye's no talent ass was being booed?

I would've paid money just to hear that dude get booed off the stage. He had no business being there, imo.

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b142905_kanye_booed_bonnaroo.html?sid=rss_topstories&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=rss_topstories

Quote :
"Organizers posted a message via Jumbotron that the "Can't Tell Me Nothing" rapper wouldn't be taking the stage until 3:15 a.m., then 3:30. When 4:15 a.m. rolled around and still no West, the antsy crowd began hurling glow sticks at the stage and screaming anti-West sentiments. Bonnaroo officials didn't help the matter, not informing festivalgoers why the changeover was taking so long.

West finally made his entrace at 4:30 a.m., but by then, many exhausted attendees had had enough and returned to their tents.

Apparently, they didn't miss too much.

Judging by online reviews, West's performance didn't stand out from the 150 acts performing at the four-day musical campout. In fact, it was a yawner.

"He was two hours late, cut his show short, didn't once acknowlegde the crowd that waited two hours on an already late show, not even a wave goodbye...I'm no longer a Kanye fan, huge disappointment," one fan wrote at the music blog Stereogum.com.

I had a blast, I really enjoyed Pearl Jam, and Jack Johnson was fun (Eddie Vedder came onstage and played a song with him, it was hot). I tried to see Sigur Ros but everyone around us was being extremely not nice and one of my roommates started to have a panic attack, so we left and I missed it. B.B. King was fucking amazing, at 82 years old he still puts on a GREAT show- so great Manchester gave him the key to the city during his set.

Got back last night. Highlights:

- Pearl Jam was EPIC. I've seen em a couple time before but never seen a performance like that from Eddie Vedder. The busted out some rare vault stuff (played W.M.A. and some Lost Dogs tracks that hadn't been played in 10+ years), covered "All Along the Watchtower" and "Love Reign O'er Me," and blew past their time slot by almost an hour.

- My Morning Jacket was somehow, even better. Kirk Hammett Came out on "One Big Holiday," Jim James put on a cape and James Brown-danced his way through Kool & the Gang, Erykah Badu, James Brown, Funkadelic, and Sly and the Family Stone Covers. They played almost all of the songs off "Evil Urges," and confirmed the album as nothing short of brilliant. almost 4+ hours into Friday night and a quite a downpour. I have never seen a better show.

- Things I was seeing for the first time that ruled: Battles, Dark Star (who actually put on a GREAT show), Claypool, Raconteurs, MIA (apparently her last show too, wtf), Gogol Bordello, Zappa Plays Zappa (AMAZING), Chromeo (muddy dance party ftw), like 3 songs of Sigur Ros (must see in real venue now)

- Metal-roo was awesome. Saw Mastodon, the Sword and Metallica and all ruled. Umphrey's played a pretty prog set as well.

- re: Kanye. Pretty fucked up. apparently he was responsible for Phil's set being cut short (which was a pretty rockin set from what I saw momentarily) ... and people were PISSED. What I will say is that with VIP camping we were able to watch the first half from up in the crowd and the second half sitting on top of our car. And had it not been at Bonnaroo and so late and after so many amazing shows, I would've thought it was awesome ... but the guy didn't apologize/explain being super late and never recognized the crowd. Still sweet stage setup and loud as all hell.

synopsis would go again. will go again.

Allison K. and Robert Plant stole the show for me; they were amazing. O.A.R, who I saw before and Derek Trucks and Susan "?" Soul Stew Revival, who I saw after, were no where close to Allison and Robert.

Jack Johnson was boring as usual to me.

Metallica was much much better than I expected. Pearl Jam was OK.....nothing special, probably dont care to see them again. I'd pick Metallica over them any day of the week.

Willie Nelson was OK...about what I expected.

The Av. Bros. were a good show! Robert R. and the Family Band was good as well.

I didnt go Thursday night....ended up staying in Chat. Tenn to see ZZ Top at their River Festival. Instead, we came in Friday morning, didnt have any traffic whatsoever to fight, had camp set up by 11, and we were in the end row! We could leave when we wanted to cause we werent blocked in. It was awesome!

The great thing about Bonnaroo is that it really isn't a hippiefest in anything but attitude. You can basically get away with anything but as opposed to a Alltel Pavilion crowd, there's a certain level of "we're all in it together" where even without a (noticable) police presence, I saw no fights. Maybe it is the heat and pawt, but ... very awesome.

Also, yeah .. not a hippiefest. Phil and TDB are there, but you can go and catch
all rootsy stuff (Trucks, Krauss, the Bluegrass allstars, Levon Helm),
all metal/prog/heavy stuff (Mastodon/Claypool/Metallica)
hipster crap (Sigur Ros, Broken Social Scene, Cat Power, Rilo Kiley, What Made Milwaukee Famous)
hipster electronic crap (!!!, MGMT, Chromeo)
real electronic crap (Tiesto, DJ Tent)
hip hop (Lupe, Chali 2na, etc)
or just old-fashioned rock and roll (PJ, MMJ, raconteurs, etc)

they're definitely not CRAP... I wanted to Chromeo>Phil>Kanye so I only caught about 3 songs of the Sigur Ros set and it was pretty awe-insipring. Problem was, it was supercrowded and I immediately made a mental note to "SEE THIS BAND SOON"

Robert R. calling Kanye out was one of the highlights. Im glad people are finally realizing how horrible Kanye is.

Mainstream rappers are in the entertainment business, not the music business IMO. Its like putting the WWE on the same stage as MLB, the NFL, or the NBA. You've got guitar virtuoso on That stage, singing virtuoso on This stage, and rapper who's full of himself on What stage....

I really wanted Kanye to be good to shut up the bonnnaroo purists that think it should be purely jam bands.

But he failed.

And lost the small amount of respect I had left for him.

He didn't even say "bonnaroo" once for christ's sake.

I haven't seen Chris Rock mentioned, he was pretty funny, and it was awesome being at what I think was the biggest comedy performance ever(largest crowd)?

in may he set the record at 15,900. there might have been more at his bonnaroo set but i guess it's pretty much impossible to calculate so it isn't official.
