Waiting till it is obsolete isn't getting the best deal.

BumpDoes anyone now know if there will be a price drop anytime soon like after the holidays? And honestly I don't see spitting out the extra money for 1080p on 37-42 inch tvs....What are your opinions?
12/17/2007 12:21:53 AM
There's a 52" Samsung 1080 with the glossy coating on sale for $2k at Best Buy now

went with the 42" Sharp Aquos. That thing is amazing! As soon as I powered it on and turned on the PS3 I was blown away by the clarity and sharpness of the Ps3 menu system
12/21/2007 9:42:39 AM
nice.you cant go wrong with the sharpwe have the same model, but the 37"
12/21/2007 12:49:21 PM
^^Was it worth putting the extra money on it to get 1080p?37 or 42" Aquos is what Ive been looking at and trying to tell if 1080p is worth it or not.
12/26/2007 1:31:40 AM
for that size, I'd say no. Many will argue with me about this..but in the end I doubt they could tell the difference on a TV that size. If it were more like a 50"+ I'd say go for 1080p
12/26/2007 10:13:33 AM
well i went for 1080p because I can tell the difference. and I also went for the contrast ratio among other things. It was well worth it IMO
12/26/2007 12:07:56 PM
37" is pretty big. but thats from someone who didnt have any other TVs to compare it to. im sure if i compare our 37 to his 42 it would be tiny looking.watched my first high def movie (TBSHD). twas awesome. just got a ps3 so ill have much more fun
12/26/2007 8:17:22 PM
My mom and I got the Vizio 1080p for my Dad, and its awesome. I wanted her to get the 720 since it was so much cheaper, but there was a really good deal on the 1080p apparently
12/27/2007 12:21:28 AM
^is that sarcasm or do you have some kind of eye disorder?
12/27/2007 12:37:08 AM

Don't go to Circuit City or Best Buy. Buy online, you'll save hundreds, literally.
12/27/2007 1:14:35 PM
I'm probably going to pick up the 46V3000 in a couple of weeks
12/27/2007 1:36:12 PM
Lewizzle what is the best place to buy online in your opinion?
12/28/2007 12:30:54 AM
we bought our TV from amazon.saved a few hundred.but shipping hurts. (but you still save).
12/28/2007 12:52:17 AM
you guy's should really look into this. http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=17744&t=651004a lot of people have had great success with it. i was gonna give it a whirl but found a great deal open box at Sams.
12/28/2007 9:09:45 AM
^That is a lot of words, do you care to summarize any of that? What is HDA they keep referring to?
12/28/2007 11:25:36 PM
I bought my 42" d64u for 1600 at best buy and saved. I had it pricematched. Got it home same day. Did not wait for shipping nor did I have to pay shipping. You can find good deals if U look hard enough.
12/29/2007 11:23:04 AM
I don't consider that a deal at all.Amazon has Sammy LNT-4665 for 1600 and free shipping:http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT4665F-1080p-LCD-HDTV/dp/B000NVLQ72/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1198946880&sr=1-2and your sharp for 1350http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC42D64U-1080p-HDTV/dp/B000UN3VT4/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1198946880&sr=1-11

I'm looking at the samsung 4061F, 4065F, and the 4069F. I'm leaning towards the 65F model for the higher contrast, but the 69 and 71's offer 120hz and even higher contrast. Not sure if it would be worth it to pay the higher price for the 120hz versions or just go with the 61 model and be done with it.
12/30/2007 8:17:00 AM
I'm wondering why everyone seems to be looking for a ~40" LCD. (I know thats the subject of the thread, but even so). If its because thats the biggest you can afford, take a look at a rear projection TV, like the Sony KDS-XXA3000. You get more inches for your dollar, and a proper screen size for 1080 if you sit any further back than 5 feet from the screen. The Sony has the 120 Hz motion-smoothing feature that those expensive Samsung LCDs have, and it is better implemented as well (no artifacts).http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TMFYAA/sr=1-1/qid=1197409322/ref=pd_cp_e__map?ie=UTF8&qid=1197409322&sr=1-1[Edited on December 30, 2007 at 3:58 PM. Every room in the house does not have to have a big screen tv. I got a 42" LCD because its the perfect size for my bedroom. Its a big enough room that anything smaller would be hard to see from my bed. And I already have the 50" dlp downstairs that cost less. Also 1600 is a deal becuase that tv was 1300 on BF at Fry's but I'd have to pay shipping. To me it was worth 1600 to have it the same day. Not pay for shipping. And if I wasn't satisifed I can drive to the store and return it instantly.
12/30/2007 6:56:21 PM
The thing is that 40-42" range is the best bang for the buck for a TV. And lower and you pay for a smaller size, and larger and you pay more for the larger size. It's pretty much the standard size for regular HDTV's and a very popular size among consumers. While DLP is cheaper and still overs a good value, they are a dying consumer item, expecially with LCD and plasma prices going down fast. LCD's will start to fly off the shelves next year with more and more manufacturers switching to LED tv's as it offers even cheaper production costs and higher specs. DLP is doomed to be obsolete even though its a proven tech. I'm still surprised of how small the latest DLP models are; they've really compacted them and reduced their weight.
12/31/2007 3:30:49 AM
are you local still? i have a 4065f up on my wall if you want to see it in action (hd cable/ps3 bluray/sdtv etc)
12/31/2007 11:08:07 AM
While the DLP provides a great picture when you're looking directly at the screen, I would never get one for a wide living room where people are standing and moving around because the viewing angles are terrible.
12/31/2007 11:17:42 AM
Yeah, still in Raleigh. I just wish those samsung's had DVI port so I could just use it normally as a monitor. Might just buy a cheap 8600gt for the hmdi port for a home entertainment PC.

I believe I just got one hell of a deal on a Sharp 46" LCD. I just got the LC-46D64U model for $1900 with a free Sharp Blu-Ray player. Bestbuy has the tv for $2200 but HHgregg has the same deal for $1900. I got BB to price match. However, since it was a special deal, they charged me $500 for the player and $1400 for the TV. The receipt shows them as 2 separate items. I'm going to return the Blu-ray player next week so I will have gotten a normally $2200 tv for $1400. I figured I'll wait for the blu-ray players to go down in price or maybe buy a PS3. Either way I'll be coming out in the good. YMMV on this deal and I have yet to return the player as the deal lasts through Sunday.

I have the 47'' 1080p Vizio and its just ridiculous how good this thing looks - first thing I played was the Blu Ray Spider Man 3... PS3 is beautiful on it. I think it was around $1500 all said and done.... Vizio is the hotness (which I said early on in this thread - then I bought my own).
1/17/2008 8:44:44 AM
vizio and westinghouse are making a run for it.through the roof.buy low, sell high. thats all i have to say

I'm thinking about getting a 120hz 1080p LCD tv in the 47"-51" size, but I'm not sure who has the best 120hz technology out right now and who just slapped together some hardware to keep up. Any suggestions? The Sonys I've seen with 120hz refresh rates have looked spectacular, but they seem overpriced.
1/21/2008 5:34:55 PM
my understanding is there hardware is more or less the same, no one is just slapping something together. the real difference is in the software and DSP.
1/21/2008 6:07:17 PM
I'm getting a Samsung 71 series, like in the next two weeks. Sears has it for $1799 and an extra $300 if I get a blu ray or $200+ home theater with it. Its 120hz
1/21/2008 6:37:51 PM
I dont really think 120hz is worth the $premium right now. Take a look on avsforums and it seems a lot of people are turning it off altogether.
1/21/2008 7:36:00 PM
yes but you already have it for when it is. What would be cheaper? buying 1 tv now without it and 1 with it when you can actually take advantage of it...or paying premie now and only having to buy 1 tv that would last longer.
