what is 1978?
1/14/2008 1:19:50 PM
^^ that it does^ X i think odd, wikipedia has quite different ranges than I would expectyep you're at the end of the X scaleY is "Generation Y first appeared in an August 1993 magazine AD Age editorial to describe those children born between 1980–1995" yuck, '95. I'd guess that there is a decided difference between those born in the 80's and then in the 90's....[Edited on January 14, 2008 at 3:59 PM. Reason : s]

You know what I never get tired of? Listening to old people complain about young people. It's such a new phenomenon, too.

Would you like your trophy now?

Intellectualism in America stays mostly stagnantDespite claims of the 'dumbing of America,' many say otherwise

That A-hole at schoolkids was probably a millenial.

^^ Sounds more like WWII. But make no mistake, if some of you really are fucked up, we, Gen X--and Boomers--fucked you up. So it's mostly our fault. ^ A fair point.

The Young Know Caroline's a Kennedy, but Which One?
12/22/2008 9:00:37 AM
How old are you, homosaw?
12/22/2008 9:01:58 AM
12/22/2008 9:07:50 AM
It doesn't matter, really. I'm just curious. Are you ashamed of your age or something?
12/22/2008 9:10:14 AM
Old enough. Blah, blah, blah--are you too stupid to address the topic?
12/22/2008 9:11:36 AM
I don't really have a dog in this fightI just wonder in what millennium you were born
12/22/2008 9:14:22 AM
Sorry--I was watching the "Rufus Hussey . . . beanshooter" video.Okay, well, thanks for sharing. Now GTFO.
12/22/2008 9:19:47 AM
My guess is 57
12/22/2008 9:20:20 AM
12/22/2008 9:24:10 AM
^^ Okay, doofus--let me frame it up for you. One of the young people interviewed in the article above is a 21-year-old senior at a university and she doesn't know who Caroline Kennedy's father is--or even who Caroline Kennedy is, for that matter. And other twentysomethings seemed just as clueless.Let me make it real simple for you: Is this sheer lack of basic knowledge (current events, recent American history, and so on) acceptable to you? I mean, the young people in question weren't asked to do math or anything.
12/22/2008 9:30:35 AM
Wait, you're complaining that the young don't follow the lives of New England elites enough?
12/22/2008 10:53:06 AM
58?
12/22/2008 11:01:05 AM
^^^There's no reason to know who Caroline Kennedy is. She's not been in the public sector until recently, so other than that what exposure would we have to her?[Edited on December 22, 2008 at 11:04 AM. Reason : .]
12/22/2008 11:03:57 AM
Is it worse not knowing who Caroline Kennedy is, or not knowing that Africa's not a country?
12/22/2008 11:23:35 AM
As one of those border kids (1980 here) I don't feel I'm really Gen X, but I'm certainly not a Millennial either. Millenials overlap heavily with the "digital natives" who don't remember life before computers in the home (yes, some people of my age had them from young childhood, but not most), Nintendo, and common cell phones/PDAs/laptops. Some of the things becoming common today befuddle me though. The "helicopter parents" in particular who are there at every beck and call (sometimes unheeded) to advocate/harrass/bully for their students in college and even in the early work world seem completely foreign to me. Also, I would have been starkly ashamed to move back home after college--while it might be a sound financial decision, whatever happened to being independent and starting your own life?[/somewhat old man]
12/22/2008 12:02:32 PM
I'm obsessed with stuff like the Kennedy family, royal families, hollywood gossip. So I know all about Caroline.Even with all that, I still find it hard for those of us that are 25 and up to not know who she is.
12/22/2008 12:07:29 PM
^ Well, under 25 should know that (1) Caroline Kennedy is JFK's daughter and (2) that she will possibly/probably be appointed to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat. This is really not too much to ask--it's not calculus, for God's sake. But, Professor hooksaw, this isn't fair. I'm calling Mommy and Daddy!
12/22/2008 12:59:02 PM
59?!
12/22/2008 1:00:39 PM
^ Focus, doofus. Topic--and go!*Crickets*
12/22/2008 1:04:21 PM
I wasn't sure who she was until I visited Wikipedia. This doesn't bother me.

What the hell does it matter if someone knows who Caroline Kennedy is?Is knowing all the children of the past 10 presidents a requirement for being a good American? If I don't know who Susan Elizabeth Ford is am I a bad person?
12/22/2008 3:35:12 PM
My boss actually wrote a book called "winning with the millennials" Its pretty good actually... But then he deals with engineers which i would say are least affected by it.(as i post on the wolf web)
12/22/2008 3:40:12 PM
This guy wrote all this in attempt to mask or hide his generation's failures.
12/22/2008 3:43:56 PM
12/22/2008 5:27:50 PM
^ it's a sad and desperate attempt to convince himself he's still relevant by clinging to icons of his generation. The Kennedys as a dynasty haven't done anything noteworthy recently, there's no good reason to forcibly keep them in the public eye.The majority of Americans, young or old, don't know 2 bit senators from other states anyway.
12/22/2008 5:38:17 PM
