"goodness gracious"

"FOR THE LOVE OF PETE"

"No I went to Western Harnett High School. A lot of people from NC ask me if I am from up North. I don't think I have an accent at all. My dad is so country grammar that he makes fun of what he calls my "sophisticated dialect." It makes me sad sometimes."

Hahaha! I too went to Western Harnett High School! I don't remember you though punchmonk. Of course, I didn't graduate until 2003, but I had went to ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, and HIGH school with NCSUsmiley. Her sweet mama was my teacher my junior and senior year! LOL Gotta love Lillington!

And jackleg, I work part time at that food lion by Fuquay HS. I'm an office asst manager...if you're ever in town, stop in and say hello!

I wasn't talkin about Morehead, thats not far enough east lol (think Sea Level, Atlantic, etc)

"Some students of North Carolina history would know that for a long time, the residents of the Outer Banks and Ocracoke in particular, had their own dialect which wasn't remotely "Southern.""

Ocracoke is more of a Chapel Hill with salt water than anything now

A lot of folks have trouble figuring my accent (or lack thereof) out, since I've lived in NC all my life but in cities and with Northern parents. Definitely use some Southern figures of speech though...most common for me are y'all, might could/used to could, do what?, right quick...

I don't think anyone has mentioned yonder/over yonder yet. I've also been told that "scoot over" is a Southern-ism, and if so, then that would be on my list...
