I obviously saw her good enough to take a spine shot and kill her instantly. I was just saying how dark it was getting. If not for the scope, I would not have shot her. I wasn't literally saying that it was so dark that I was shooting at a questionable object.
11/11/2007 6:47:28 AM
again...I'd pay $Idaho for some jerky.
11/11/2007 6:49:52 AM
Never made jerky, but there's a first time for everything.

grats.... i made my wife come with me last saturday. She'd never been before. She'd never shot a gun before. She'd never looked through a scope before. We sat all day and around 4pm, a nice big doe came out and i got tired of watching deer all day so I made her shoot and she nailed it at 105 yds with my blackpowder rifle.oh, and I make the meanest venison jerky EVER. Period.[Edited on November 11, 2007 at 9:16 AM. Reason : .]

I don't have the time to hunt as much as I'd like, but in our area the deer are so overpopulated that it's hard to grow anything without fencing it, not to mention the damage they do to electric fences. We lease our hunting rights to a local club, and I've seen them hauling out some nice deer so far this season. You can kill unlimited antlerless deer in this area as long as you observe the 2 deer a day bag limit, so maybe the population will be back to a better level.

Nice work, DiamondAce.

beth... Hook me up with some deer jerkey I'll pay by the pound.
11/11/2007 12:15:51 PM
personally i never saw the allure of hunting. i'm glad to see you're going to use the meat instead of killing just to kill. also, i've never had deer meat shockingly enough. maybe if it tastes as good as everyone claims it's worth killing for!

I just got back from Hyde County with a class field trip to a bear thing last night. We were supposed to tag bears and pull teeth and ovaries all day, but we didn't end up doing that. We did see lots of dead bears, one of which was 585 lbs.! A freaking moose of a bear! Some guys in a hunt club told me last night that they would take me bear hunting with them this morning (opening day there) and they fucking stood me up! THEY even got permission from my professor and were all excited and everything about getting to take me - and they STOOD ME UP!!! I've been pissed off all day, but have seen some amazing stuff! We were following these guys around the property (16,000 acres) and they stopped, jumped out, and killed a buck (5 pt.) right in front of us! IT WAS AWESOME!! Today was definitely an eventful day, and I saw some things and experienced some things I never have before. I am now on a quest for a cheap bear hunt - fuck paying $50,000 for a place to hunt! I don't even come close to making that much in one year! Also, I have never dog hunted before for anything, but I have absolutely got to go on a bear hunt with dogs! (If anyone here bear hunts or is in a club - even if you don't let me shoot a bear, I would love to just tag along and experience the hunt!)
11/12/2007 7:10:49 PM
Were you planning on eating the bear?
11/12/2007 7:14:18 PM
Bear meat is really good when cooked properly.
11/12/2007 7:17:32 PM
I would eat bear, yes. I would also use its hide for a rug or bed-throw.I have never eaten bear, but I will try any wild game. From the looks of it today, its pretty fatty and a stronger, darker meat. I bet it would make good steak or stew.[Edited on November 12, 2007 at 7:18 PM. Reason : ]

Just make sure you know what you are doing when you cook it. I've had it that was delicious, and I've had it that was awful. Good bear meat tastes like a stronger version of stew beef.

485 pounderSorry about the quality... not a great camera phone, but I love it![Edited on November 12, 2007 at 8:10 PM. Reason : well, I thought some may want to see the fat content, but apparently it is too graphic for some.]

I just don't get you people.
11/12/2007 8:06:05 PM

11/12/2007 8:10:01 PM
What you need to use to deer hunt with!!!
11/12/2007 8:12:26 PM
deer burger on the hoof! you'd be picking fur out of the burger that was left!
11/12/2007 8:14:05 PM
at least you won't have to track em that far after you shoot em

Looks like a 9 point from what I can see, that's a real nice buck! Congrats! I hope to get one with some mass like that one day.

11/12/2007 8:21:00 PM
Actually a 10 pointer. I nailed him with my pistol coming out of the woods that night in Novemeber.
11/12/2007 8:21:31 PM
I believe you, I'm just too bline to see the 10th point, unless it is a kicker or something like that. My 6 had a weird kicker that we almost over looked. It was pointing down and to his back.
11/12/2007 8:23:39 PM
He has a kicker at the base of his head
11/12/2007 8:25:51 PM
ah, ok.
11/12/2007 8:28:03 PM
so what kinda food other than jerky do you get out of this? any steaks or burgers? whats it taste like?
11/14/2007 12:35:47 AM
burgers, steaks, cubed steak, tenderloin, sausage stews... I know there are more, I'm just really tired and can't think. Its really good, I can't describe it very well because I have eaten it my ENTIRE life. Ask someone who has only eaten it for the first time(s) more recently. If anyone says "gamey", you need to be smacked in the mouth. [Edited on November 14, 2007 at 12:39 AM. Reason : ]

man i want a deer burger...that sounds good if its grilled rightsaw lucky1 today and he was like you need to come over for dinner...thats why i asked
11/14/2007 12:39:50 AM
We're trying a new burger recipe on this doe that calls for grinding deer with high-quality bacon... I soooo can't wait to get my hands on some of that! Personally, I pretty much only eat my tenderloin off an indoor grill because my Daddy makes it the best like that - and tenderloin if a close first place cut in my opinion. However, deer spaghetti is another favorite cut. My second place would be deer burgers. Sausage is awesome too - if its spiced and fattened right. Lucky got us some sausage spices so I'm pretty excited about that too - but I need another deer for that. But definitely when we get some of the meat up here, we'll invite you over for some. Right now, its back home so we don't even have any fresh deer.[Edited on November 14, 2007 at 12:47 AM. Reason : ]

i had a piece of deer sausage once and i didnt really like it...seemed rubbery and strange....maybe if i tried it again i would like iti bet i would eat a deer burger like it was regular meat...i may like the steak...depending on how the meat tasted and how it was cooked
11/14/2007 12:49:09 AM
I want some venison!!
11/14/2007 12:50:20 AM
I've thought about doing this - waiting till we get 3 processed and in the freezer and then inviting a first-come-first-serve portion of TWW over to try some deer burgers, steak, TL, etc. I have a feeling this would be popular. Personally, I like to eat it before it is frozen, but we've not taken home more than one in a day - we stop and leave the woods with one.The way to do it is kill one on Saturday, take it home, clean it, quarter it, and have some of TL for breakfast. The fresher the better. Let the rest age in the fridge for a few days, grind up the burger and fat and eat some that night before freezing it... SO much better.^^ Instant kill meat is even more tender than a deer that has to be tracked because it ran till it died.[Edited on November 14, 2007 at 12:52 AM. Reason : ]

11/14/2007 12:53:30 AM

11/14/2007 12:54:36 AM
tubesteak smothered in underware...HAVE SOME!

11/14/2007 12:55:07 AM
I'm not sure eating what you kill actually justifies huntingyou're not hungry and there are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores to eat better tasting stuffyou're still killing needlessly

Had venison once, I prefer rabbit. Ooh, you haven't LIVED until you've had bunny meat. Friend keeps talking about going boar hunting one winter. I'd LOVE to get in on that.
11/14/2007 3:19:09 AM
^ Dude, rabbit is in my top 2 preferred game! My boyfriend made it in a dutch oven one New Years Eve, and I can still taste it... mmmmmm My Mom makes some good Cottontail Gravy, and let me tell you, you haven't had rabbit till you've had it like that! And that "grocery store, blah blah blah" argument just doesn't fly with me. I didn't come here to justify hunting. I stated some reasons why I do it, but I'm not defending it against anything anyone else thinks about it (its been done in its entirety in the past). I truly do not give a damn if you agree with that I do, or if what I do is "justified" in your eyes. But don't be a hypocrite, I see those pics of you fishing. And your word choice of "needlessly"... thats funny because I don't recall saying that I 'needed' to hunt, just that I 'do' hunt - need is not in the equation.
