im interested to see if some of that footage is people doing combos, or if some of the specials look like combo moves... I only ask because the camera angles change drastically during a few "combos" which is pretty cool if that is a set up for a special the farther you get into the combo.

Round 4 of Gamespot's SFIV tournament.

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/streetfighteriv/video/6203832

After seeing this, I have determined that Rufus will probably become my single most hated character in the entire Street Fighter universe. I guess Honda doesn't really have any good anti-air attacks, which doesn't help. The Flash Kick had better have priority over this bullshit.

Oh thank God. I just saw a preview video on Gamespot in which they show that you can choose either Japanese or English voices for individual characters. Check it out.

My new XIM device is coming at the end of this week, so I'll have time to get it configured to be used with my joystick before the 17th. I am so excited.

I'm still on the fence whether or not to get it, but since I have a lot of the previous Capcom fighters, I'll probably buy this one too.

Got my Revoltech Guile yesterday! While it's considerably smaller than I had envisioned, it's still very well articulated. Paint apps are good, the sculpt is a great likeness, and I truly appreciate that it comes with a display stand so that you can put him in all kinds of poses.

Kinda low quality images taken from my phone.

I know this kind of thing has been going on since the dawn of fighters, but how do they get away with Rufus being such a blatant rip-off of Cheng Sinzan from Fatal Fury 2?

Damn it. The guy playing Rufus won the Gamespot tournament. From just an initial impression, it looks like Rufus is grossly overpowered. I hate to think that such a stupid looking character could be the most easily abused one.

I called Best Buy and GameStop yesterday and they both said tomorrow. I was considering the MadCatz fightpad but people are reporting issues with the controller minutes after taking it out of the box.

So... a friend/guy-I-know brought this game to play on one of the wolves den 360s...

It's basically completely awesome. Very Street-Fighter 2 in terms of gameplay but with newer-looking graphics... It's extremely crisp and it's easy to tell what's going on at any given moment regardless of some of the effects they put in. If I owned it (and a 360), I would be playing it right now and I probably wouldn't be in my classes tomorrow. Nor would I probably sleep.

On a side note, the background graphics are very well-done. There are a few stages with water in the background, and a character landing hard or something similar will cause a ripple in the background environment vaguely centered near their landing... some "spectators" in the background will react somewhat to what the players are doing... really the only visual fault I noticed was a plume of 2-d smoke rising from a volcano in the background -- it was very obviously rising from behind the volcano rather than from the crater itself.

I like it so far. Graphics are nice, character models look (mostly) good. I like the huge step up in production values, the intro is pretty sweet. I still need to get the hang of this "Focus Attack" thing.

Random thoughts:

Ken and Ryu look pretty bad up close, especially Ryu's win pose at the end of a fight. I don't like their 2D art either.
Voices are horrible and word has it the translation is pretty poor. What is this, 1994?
Online play was pretty smooth when I tried it. Got my ass kicked though
M. Bison's slide kick has crazy range. It trade hits with fireballs if you do the move too late.

^Just turn on the Japanese voices.

I'm loving it. I'm just learning how to play one character (Ken) online, and I'm not sure if theres a better way to learn. Any tips?

Target still doesn't have this fucking game! I've called them every day since Tuesday and they still haven't gotten it. If I didn't have a gift card I would have went somewhere else already. The clerks told me that other people have been asking. Of course they have, this is a huge fucking release. I'm sure that they're losing business over this.

In a related topic, anyone want to trade a $60 target card + cash for an unopened copy of this game for 360?

I went to the Target in North Hills to get my copy and they still had a few left.

Anyone else feel retarded for not buying some TE sticks to flip?

^I'm not sure what you mean by early adopter. Those are TE sticks. They only made 3000. While the value may go down eventually, you'll never be able to buy one firsthand. Still a little ridiculous. I could understand double the MSRP...

They apparently are the best arcade sticks ever released in the US, period.

Also, if anyone is interested, I have Tekken themed arcade sticks and ps2-> ps3 adapters for sale.

I'd sell for $50 each, $80 for the pair.

It's functional, not that great, but I've never liked using any system's D-pad all that much. Playing as Zangief (Zangeif?) I actually tended to use the thumbstick more, since a few of his specials/throws are done with a full-circle (Spinning Piledriver is full-circle+punch, for example).

I'd rather play (and highly recommend) using an arcade-style pad but don't feel like buying one for a game I don't even own.

people are even selling the madcatz pads for 100 or more on amazon.

the 360 controller is alright, but def couldnt use it to play the game regularly. im not much of an aracde player (grew up playing it on snes), so i got the madcatz pad at my local best buy. haven't tried it out yet, but ill let you guys know how it is in comparison to the 360 controller if you are looking for a better, but cheap alternative.

[Edited on February 19, 2009 at 7:37 PM. Reason : update: lot better for regular moves at least. stick is better for charge moves of course]

Gah... I've played it once and I'm getting withdrawal.... might need to buy this myself if no one I hang out with ever gets it... also joystick pads are WAY too fucking expensive right now. If I do get the game I might have to resort to a goddamned MadCatz one.

[Edited on February 20, 2009 at 12:53 AM. Reason : fuck madcatz]

Anyone interested in picking up a only twice played copy of the 360 version? I just suck so bad at this game and don't even have time to get good at it, even though it totally kicks ass.

email me at kainen at gmail dot com if interested. It was new for 60 so I wager 50 is fair. Again, it's used like 30 minutes tops.

Raging Demon with max ultra is soooo awesome now, goes all the way across the screen though I would advice being as close as possible because you can simply spam light punch to break Akuma out of it, or you can just jump if you are good at timing.

So I got this game on the 18th and have played it a couple of times. I play the Versus mode Player vs. CPU on the normal difficulty level and I win most of the time, sometimes fairly easily. I go to play Arcade mode just so that I can unlock stuff and characters. I put it on the easiest level with 1 round, and I'll end up having trouble beating at least one character on my way to beating it. Like today I played with Ryu and when I got to playing Sagat I could never beat him, despite being so close so many times. It was effing ridiculous. I switched over to Ken and beat Rufus on my first try, even though that was harder than it should have been. I mean I know I haven't really played a SF game since Street Fighter Alpha II on my SNES (although I did play SFIII once in an arcade), but how the hell can I be so good in Versus mode on the default difficulty mode, but suck so bad in Arcade mode on the easiest freaking level? It makes no sense.

Still though I love the game so far. The gameplay is pretty smooth and the graphics are pretty crisp on my 46 inch HDTV. I need to get Akuma unlocked though. That was my guy back on SF Alpha II. I wrecked people's shit with him back in the day. I've heard there is a way to unlock all of the characters at once. I think you have to win Arcade mode (the difficulty level doesn't matter) by only using the Hard Kick button.

^From a guide on unlocking:
Quote :
"The below video shows you how to unlock Street Fighter 4 characters with an incredibly easy to perform tip that works on every character. In this case Crimson Viper is used to unlock Cammy White. Set the difficulty to easiest, and the rounds to one. Go through each opponent while hitting Hard Kick or Hard Punch repeatedly. This works because on easiest, the computer controlled opponents are rather stupid. So keep pounding those buttons, and if your controller or joystick supports auto-fire, place a weight on the button to speed up the process. Whichever way you do it, after about 10 minutes your new character will be unlocked!"

Basically it's just the quick/simple way to beat the shit out of the computers without really having to try. You still need to play as the correct characters.
