i know, but i meant was to compare their personalities and winning styles while they where there. my bad, thats what i was trying to get across. Randolph's teams collapse under no pressure, bobby v's teams were train wrecks, but they both still had more class and smarts than Phillips. my apologizes man.

Whatever team gets A-Rod and he gets something like $350 million, doesn't matter what team it's for, it could be the Red Sox, that team will have a huge financial hole and they will not win a World Series as long as he is paid that amount of money. This has nothing to deal with "ability to pay", it's just when you commit that amount of resources to one player, you are taking away from the resources to pay the other 24, 8 of which are required to start (9 if you're in the AL), and then on top of that add in 5 more players for an effective pitching rotation and bullpen. And that means those players are going to be worse because they'll be paid less money. The Yankees and Red Sox and Cubs have salary caps, it's just one they set for themselves privately. Unless it's a pitcher, one player cannot singlehandedly win baseball games, let alone a World Series. So if you're a Yankees fan, you should cheer for A-Rod to go to the Red Sox. WFAN reported 10 year, $275M. Boras fired... we'll see if this is confirmed.

Wow...what a turnaround.^That's a reported deal in place? Or just a report of the offer being discussed?
11/14/2007 6:06:17 PM
damn, they just said 10 year 220 mil.......wtf

How in the world can you rationalize A Rod being worth more than 20m a year? He's got two seasons of MVP like #s left, max, and then, the dreaded age factor comes into play. He's going to be worth 20M for the next two years, no more, and then worth 10-15 to finish out the last 5 seasons of his productive career. I do understand why he opted out though, because if he stayed the last 3 years on his ten year deal, he'd be lucky to get A) a long term deal when he's 35 and B) more than 16-17M when he is 35. there's just a right way and a wrong way to opt out and Boras is a poison to owners.

He has more than 2 years at this level. he doesn't have 10, but you could argue he's still getting better as a hitter over the last few years. I'm not sure he is worth much more than 20 million a year. Logic says that he is playing much better than when he scored the 252 million contract and that was years ago. So he should probably be paid more. I think this just demonstrates how much Texas overpaid back then. You're right though, A Rod should be pleased with the length of this offer.
11/15/2007 12:09:15 AM
he's only 31, he made 22 million or so this year and this was his best season everso you're saying he's peaked? he's worth at least 22 million next year and will probably be worth as much for the next five yearsyou also have to factor in the inflation of market value over the coming years -- it's absolutely moronic to think he would settle for 10-15 million in three years

10 years, 275 mil

so is it true that he fired Boras? Cause that would be hilariousand I agree:
11/15/2007 8:01:01 PM
i don't think he fired boras, he just negotiated without himwhich, in effect, is the same as firing himi don't get it but boras is a choad
11/15/2007 8:20:11 PM
Well I think I read somewhere that doing the deal without his agent is in voilation of the players union agreement with the owners. ???
11/15/2007 8:43:16 PM
^11. Obviously, players hit better when they get older. Look at Barry Bonds. 36-39 were the best of his career. But really, I don't want him on the Yankees. I want them to lose like 90 games, and with him coming back they're not getting as much worse as I thought they were going to.
11/15/2007 11:29:56 PM
Get out of this thread n00b
11/15/2007 11:44:36 PM
^ no. It would be a violation if the Yankees didn't allow it. I don't know what happens if A-Rod doesn't allow it. Apparently nothing?
11/16/2007 2:31:02 AM
So is Boras ARod's agent right now? The Yankees refused to talk to him and evidently ARod has made a deal wtih the Yankees... unless Boras was under contract with ARod no matter what, it sounds like the deal was made without Boras.
11/16/2007 9:58:12 AM
So it has nothing to do with a-rod per se, but Kenny Rogers fired Boras recently also...I don't mind players getting paid, I'd rather it go to them than the owners; or actually I'd rather it go to lower ticket and food prices, but anyways... I wouldn't mind seeing Boras out of sports. I know he has countless other big names, and makes god knows what money, but he's a prick. That is all.
11/17/2007 3:04:11 AM
I read a few days ago (I think it was on espn) that even though Boras was not part of the negotiations, he was technically called a "consultant" will get approximately $14 million as part of the contract.
