I'll stick with the juice.

if you peel it underwater, then you wont have any problems
11/19/2007 9:19:23 AM
1. Turn cold water on.2. Put strainer under faucet.3. Slice and peel under water, letting the arils fall into the strainer.4. Pour contents of strainer into bowl and eat.Not that hard and can be done really quickly once you get a method to it.

I thought the season was gone, because the ones at HT last night were all dried up.Went again tonight and they must have gotten a new batch. Bought 4...should last me at least 24 hours.
11/19/2007 9:32:20 PM
Just ate 2 of those 4.Pomegranates: God's gift to mankind.
11/19/2007 11:29:07 PM
is there such thing as pomegranate pie?it's gotta be good.
11/20/2007 12:30:24 AM
they make pom wine/champage/beerive never tried it though
11/20/2007 8:37:44 AM
^^ a pomagranate pie seems nearly impossable because of the seeds. All they are are liquid and seed really. And a a liquid pie doesn't sound very appealingmy mom started making pie this morning
11/20/2007 10:14:11 AM
you could use the liquid to flavor other ingredients.
11/20/2007 10:22:24 AM
^^^ I got some Sarnac Pomegranate Wheat beer a few weeks ago. I was pretty good, but didn't have a very strong pom flavor at all. I also got some pomegranate schnapps, which I haven't tasted by itself, but it also seems to be sweeter than I'd like it to be.
11/20/2007 10:34:43 AM
^I had a pint of that at Village Draft House... wasn't that good to me.
11/20/2007 10:35:53 AM
I just had my 3rd pomegranate in 4ish hours. These things are more addictive than crack.
11/21/2007 1:00:20 AM
we have a few pomegranate trees in our backyard and made some juice the other day. it took around 45 minutes to make including getting all the little seeds out, squishing them in a bowl, adding some water and sugar, and then boiling it. after an hour or so in the fridge, it was pretty good. the seed juice is awesome by itself too.
11/21/2007 3:05:17 AM
11/21/2007 4:45:07 AM
^ how else do you think they make any sort of juice??
11/21/2007 9:07:04 AM
11/21/2007 9:23:35 AM
I just had another.Damn, 4 in ~16 hours.I swear I'm going to be shitting pomegranate seeds for a week.

11/21/2007 4:25:18 PM
I bought one at Food Lion the other day for 99 centsnever had one before, wish I had read this thread before attempting to eat. My method was to cut it in half, then squish it until the seeds mostly popped out. I still have the other half left, so I will try to be more responsible this time
11/21/2007 4:28:51 PM
^ahahahahahha

Anyone know where you can get grenadine that is still made out of poms rather than corn syrup ?
11/23/2007 1:16:16 AM
we really didn't know what we were doing... didn't know if they were ripe, didn't know what, if anything we needed to do to make juice so we just made shit up as we went. we boiled it to make sure the sugar, water, and pomegranate juice all mixed well and then stuck it the fridge till it was cold. next time i plan on just squeezing it and drinking the juice straight up... just had to get some trial and error out of the way. what's a good way to tell if they're ripe? I keep picking ones that i think will be ripe only to find that they are terrible.
11/23/2007 7:05:09 PM
maybe you just dont like pomegrantes....not all people like the same things
11/23/2007 7:38:32 PM
I have had like two so far! Those are nummers!!
11/23/2007 9:30:36 PM
i had some this morning.pomegranates are a great way to start the day, no joke. the flava does a good job waking me up.
11/26/2007 12:13:41 PM
I want to officially thank TWW for introducing me to this fruit. I have found pomegranates to be tasty and very pretty. I plan to eat one every day until they go out of season.btw, Pomegranates still on sale at Food Lion for 99 cents!!!!
11/28/2007 3:17:00 PM
At Sam's Club they have 4-packs that are HUGE poms for $7.77.
11/28/2007 3:21:10 PM
11/28/2007 4:16:21 PM
hmmm I don't know ... will have to check when I get home
11/28/2007 4:51:06 PM
Just picked two up at Kroger. I hope I can get it done right the first time, lol.
11/28/2007 10:01:45 PM
Pomegranates at the Kroger on highway 70 in Garner (POM brand) -- 10 for $10, IF you have their Kroger savings card thingy. My girlfriend and I just picked up 30. According to POM you can freeze the arils for up to a year in ziploc bags. Tonight is going to be a pomegranate peeling marathon...I'll probably go buy another 20-30 tomorrow.
12/2/2007 7:06:35 PM
$10 for 10.hmmmi wonder if other krogers are doing it.i just like to chill the seeds then eat them.tis good
12/2/2007 7:25:28 PM
Best thread to date. I read all the posts and decided to try one out. Now I'm hooked.
12/2/2007 10:29:55 PM
I couldn't eat all the seeds in one sitting, so I ate half and put the rest in a bowl for storing in the fridge. I really like the juice part and am really turned off by the seeds part. Soooo I guess I'm kinda stuck, unless I just chew on the seeds for a little while and get all the juice out and then spit the rest of it all out, lol.
12/3/2007 12:07:02 AM
just chew through the "seeds" man, it ain't that hard.plus, not everyone likes the same stuff. if you really don't like the seeds just get some pomegranate juice instead of the fruit.
12/3/2007 12:11:26 AM
Just peeled 10 pomegranates. All the arils fit into 2 gallon-size ziploc bags (might have had a few handfuls before putting them in the freezer).
12/3/2007 1:32:11 AM
I got some pomegranate juice from Trader Joe's the other night, and the stuff is VILE. I'm being serious here, and not joking like I was earlier in the thread... It didn't taste like the fresh juice at ALL.
12/3/2007 9:24:25 AM
^ If you think that's bad, then never, ever try acai juice. It has a ton of antioxidants, so I bought some one time. The taste wasn't horrible, but it smelled like feet to the point that I couldn't even open the container.
12/3/2007 9:42:48 AM
Trader Joes has a lot of fruit items that smell like feet - I got some dried Lychees and they were comically bad smelling. Dried apples were not as bad but still not pleasant. I guess all natural does have its downfall in some areas
12/3/2007 10:05:52 AM
I impulse bought some Pomegranate Martini mix a while back. I only drank it one time though and it's just been sitting in the cabnit ever since.
12/3/2007 10:08:19 AM
12/3/2007 10:09:48 AM
I think the season is officially over. I can't find them anywhere (except for a few bags of arils in the freezer). Till next year...
12/11/2007 11:36:25 PM
yeah, and if you do find them, you probably dont want to buy it.just stick to the POM juice, its just as good.
12/11/2007 11:54:24 PM
they cure ED now too, mo better than viagra
12/11/2007 11:56:29 PM
They still have them at the Harris Teeter on Edwards Mill for 2/$5 - still good, or no??
12/12/2007 3:38:08 AM
you people are so damn quick to jump on fads like pomegranates and claim you've ALWAYS loved them.
12/12/2007 8:26:07 AM
negro plz. i have. ever since i was a kid. i bought some from harris teeter last week. i would say that 80% of it was still good, the other was smuchy and raunchy looking. kind of like a banana with its bruise spots, still good to eat, just not appealing.if you get them now, eat them right away. dont stick them in the fridge for another few days.
