I had planned long before I graduated to go to community first.I was actually going to go to UNCG for biz then changed my major at community and went to State(MEA) then I changed it back to BIZ after a semester and decided to stay at State.Only two colleges offer that degree in NC, UNC Asheville(accepted to transfer) and State. State took forever though compared to Asheville.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 6:24 PM. Reason : w]

SAT scores across the country are declining... http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/2007/08/28/sat-scores-drop-for-the-second-year-in-a-row.html... just a reflection of the greater American trends.

harder to get into UNCharder to get out of NCSUeveryone knows that
10/8/2007 7:36:15 PM
^^exactly. The 3 points is significant because of the large sample size. 3 points less on the SAT doesn't mean someone is significantly dumber than before.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 7:38 PM. Reason : sad]
10/8/2007 7:37:50 PM
i wouldn't have brought that up except that gunzz automatically equated me as a stay-at-home videogame nerd just because OMG i got a good SAT score!I also don't think the 3 point drop is really a big deal. The larger point, though, is that NCSU's standards are low enough and don't need to get any lower.
10/8/2007 7:38:28 PM
Nonsense. Undergrad = the new High School. NCSU is becoming the new high school. Whenever you become more inclusive, the average talent is going to go down.
10/8/2007 7:40:46 PM
I wonder if a 3 point drop is less than a standard deviation from the mean SAT score at State
10/8/2007 7:44:15 PM
i don't think our standards are lowi think we're a STATE school, not the elitist wannabe ivy league bullshit down the road (both schools)we let in people to learn how to farm - i mean, how much more of a "university of the people" do you needdon't forget: we were started to correct the mistake that was UNC - a liberal arts school in an agriculture-based economy. the state needed A&M type education and NCSU delivered. SAT scores be damned.
10/8/2007 7:45:35 PM
well guess what. We don't live in an Agricultural-based economy anymore. We live in a technology/service economy. NCSU has adapted to supply high-tech trained engineers. Our Ag school remains an important part of the university, but it is no longer the most relevant or important college to the success of the university or to the North Carolina economy.
10/8/2007 7:57:37 PM
^ok then, i'll take our 1150 SAT scores and highly trained engineers & tech gradsUNC (and starbucks) can have their 1300 SAT scoresand we still teach people how to run a farm, and yes, agriculture is still a huge part of the NC economy. look outside of charlotte & RDU - what do you think all those huge plots of land are on the the way to the beach, golf courses?
10/8/2007 8:01:37 PM
And just as yesterday's agriculture job didn't require extreme exclusivity, neither do today's engineering jobs. There are so many engineering jobs nowadays, there are plenty of jobs for people of average ability. As the biggest state university, it's NCSU's job to cater to the masses.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 8:03 PM. never took the sat. currently have a 3.8 gpa in my senior year. sat's don't mean shit. what's important is if the individual cares about what they're doing, and if they actually apply themselves to knowing the material. btw, I barely graduated high school, graduated on a technicality, now I"m makin good grades. I don't think a test can tell you shit, I think it just depends on what the individual person will do.
10/8/2007 8:27:02 PM
sat verbal is a joke. alsoDON'T FORGET THAT THEY CHANGED THE TEST AND THE SCORES ARE ALL LOWERi don't need to worry in pams. and nobody in cals or engineering needs to worry either. its chass and management doing all the low balling.

10/8/2007 9:42:23 PM
yeah i do. I don't argue that SAT scores shouldn't matter. I am just trying to argue against the arrogant asshole who started this thread who seems to think that the SAT is the end all for evaluating freshman. my NCSU degree is "watered" down or some crap b.c the avg SAT score is down like 5% when their is a lot other more important factors then the stupid SAT.
10/8/2007 9:52:08 PM
You are a pretty sad person. All I did was post the article. I didn't write it.I also don't think that we should start lowering standards in order to get more tuition or income flowing through the school. If that makes me arrogant and an asshole, then I will be glad to be that guy. It's unfortunate that you can't grasp such a simple concept and it is more unfortunate that the subject is such a touchy one for you.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 10:11 PM. We went down 3 points in the SAT, hardly a reason to be concerned. Companies don't go omg ncsu went down 3 points (they look at the major you graduated with and more importantly the connections you have made). A degree from most places except the most elite colleges are simply a scrap of paper saying you finished something. UNC is the flagship and is popular across the United States. NCSU is a state college, of course were not going to have an SAT near UNC.

http://www.naceweb.org/info_public/salaries.htmBreaks it down by regions/schools/etc.The information isn't free, however.http://www.ncsu.edu/majors-careers/do_with_major_in/If you scroll through the majors in the various colleges it will give you national averages(provided by NACE/US Bureau of Labor).I guess that you could extrapolate NCSU vs. UNC by breaking down the percentage of graduates in various fields.[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 10:17 AM. i have to agree with you on that. SAT prep courses are only going to help bump most people's scores slightly. we're talking maybe helping on a few questions total imo
10/9/2007 2:27:09 PM
^^ that's what i've been trying to say. People making 14 and 1500s on the SAT are just smart. Simple as that. SAT prep courses might help someone get from a 1000 to 1050, it would have diminishing returns for people who can already get very high scores naturally. A lot of guys here just have a hard time admitting that 1) there are lots of smart kids out there easily making 1350+ while maintaining perfectly healthy life/school balances, and 2) these are the kind of kids that NC State should strive to get.[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 2:30 PM.
