Mario's gonna be GROSSly overmatched this weekend
9/12/2007 4:15:07 PM
Hopefully Mario gets a couple of (gentle) sacks after the panthers have the game well in hand.

Ideal situation is Panthers win but Mario finishes with a couple of sacks and breaks Jake Delhomme's body in half during one of them.

Article by Pete Prisco. Basically says that Texans did the right thing in taking Mario and talks about how impressive he was in the game last week.http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10349731Good thing we have McGuyver-RoyalFlush-AssDouche to counterpoint Pete Prisco.

This game's going to be so great - getting to watch the Panthers AND a good ole Wolfpacker on the other side. That makes me happy.Go Panthers!
9/14/2007 1:24:49 PM
^^So one guy says they made the right move in picking Mario and thats all that matters to you? How about the countless articles that have been written by people who know a lot more than that guy, saying how they made a terrible pick. How about you ask the GM who drafted him how he liked being fired over it. They guy has had one good game, count it, ONE good game. I don't think that is worthy of saying they made the correct choice. Sure, maybe taking Mario was the correct choice, but there was no reason at all to take him #1. They could have traded down, still gotten Mario, and an extra pick. They only drafted him #1 because Mario knew he fell into a good spot and would sign with them for pretty much anything they offered him.

If only the season was one game long, then Mario would be the best defensive player ever.So you let a guy you plan on firing choose your #1 pick, then fire him after he makes it. Riiiiiight.[Edited on September 14, 2007 at 1:59 PM. Reason : n]

It was a lot lower than what Young or Bush would have demanded, so yes, they got him cheap. And the Saints or Titans would not have taken him over Bush or Young. I can't believe you people are still arguing this, pretty much anyone who has to do with sports will tell you that the Texans made a terrible pick. Its cool you support a player from your school, but there is a point where it just becomes ridiculous.

^^ Ha ha why do you hate Mario Williams so much and then go on an NC State board and try to argue about him being the worst #1 pick ever? PRisco is one of the lead NFL writers so acting like there are "people who know more than that guy" is a fucking weak troll response. Maybe if John Clayton was out there writing articles that Mario is the worst #1 ever, then you might have some ammunition for this shitty thread, but otherwise it is basically your opinion against other people's opinion. I have yet to see an article stating that Mario is the worst #1 ever. Mario is going to be a good, possibly great DE for the next 10-12 years. Now shut the fuck up MacGrabaPenis-RoyalCunt-The_GayFaggotSportsTalkTroll.[Edited on September 14, 2007 at 2:19 PM. Reason : ^ Boselli was a great player for about 4 years. Definitely not a #1 bust IMO.]

btttAnother sack yesterday. 3 for the year.
10/8/2007 2:03:39 PM
Still well on his way to another dissapointing year. Another year like last year, and this year continuing like it is, and the bust becomes official I would say.
10/8/2007 6:01:09 PM
Aha, you're a joke.3 sacks in 5 games is respectable. Better than Reggie Bush has done so far this year.
10/8/2007 6:05:13 PM
Please, he is having a terrible year.He is tied for 20th in sacksAnd he isn't even in the top 40 for solo or assisted tackles. He only has 10 solo tackles, and 4 assists. The NFL leader is 41 and 10.So do not sit here and act like he is having a solid year. All people on here do is base success on stats, so I am giving you plenty of them. Well actually a lack of them. When you get chosen #1 as a defensive player, you better be putting up better stats than that 5 games into your 2nd season.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 6:13 PM. 10/8/2007 6:38:41 PM
^^^^comparing him to the leader in tackles is stupid. I bet you will find about 2 or 3 defensive linemen in the top 50 in tackles. It's mostly LBs and DBs. The best way is to compare him to other defensive linemen. He's doing good considering he's probably being double teammed alot. Being 20th in the league when apparently to you people tackles don't matter, is having a terrible year to me when you get drafted #1 overall and are supposed to come in and dominate, and yet 5 games into your 2nd season you are far from it.
10/8/2007 6:52:57 PM
10/8/2007 7:01:59 PM
he makes their whole defense better though. teams are double teaming him and it opens shit up for the rest of the guys. his numbers only capture a fraction of what he brings to the texans.
10/8/2007 7:05:07 PM
Well so far this year, there are 9 better than him.^See, people tried that same argument with Vick though, and all that people on here would base his success on were his stats. Can't use that argument unless it can go both ways, which apparently it can't. Its funny how people claimed Vick wasn't any good, but without him they have gone from a pretty solid middle upper pack team to the very bottom of the NFL.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 7:09 PM. Reason : .]
10/8/2007 7:05:16 PM
So you're talking shit about Mario because you're upset we think Vick isn't all that he's cracked up to be? Someone has a mancrush on Vick, much like the media had when he actually played football.
10/8/2007 7:23:56 PM
Atlanta was a "pretty solid middle upper pack team"?AHAHAHAJust stop dude. Before you embarrass yourself further.
10/8/2007 7:32:06 PM
^^Nothing of the sort. I am just saying people on here knocked Vick, it was obvious that he contribued a lot more than just stats, but people refused to realize or admit it, so I am just doing the same as you guys did.And as much as you like Mario, which is fine, he went to your school, you have to admnit he is not living up to the hype of being the #1 overall. So I am going to ask you this, how many average seasons does he have to have before you will admit he was a bust at #1?3? 5? 10?So far last year he put up some pretty bad stats and was hurt most of the season too. This year its more of the same, he is average at best.^If you look at the power rankings from the past 3 or more years, Atlanta, when Vick was playing, were usually in the upper half of the league, in the top 10 some. Now, with him gone from the team, they are at the very bottom. [Edited on October 8, 2007 at 7:54 PM. Reason : ,]

this isn't the place to bash wolfpack players that made it to the pros.logic < team pride.
10/8/2007 7:54:02 PM
That is true, I suppose its pointless to argue. I will just let his lack of production continue to speak for itself.
10/8/2007 7:55:53 PM
He's dominating a lot more than your boy Reggie Bush, who is for 40th in touchdowns. He's also dominating a lot more than you're boy Vince Young, who is tied for 26th in touchdown passes.26th, which is TERRIBLE considering there is only one person per team who gets touchdown passes, when there are 5-6 people who can get sacks. So GTFO with your idiotic crap.
10/8/2007 8:09:01 PM
Guess what, they didn't go #1. They aren't letting down anyone because the Saints and the Titans, the city, and their fans were more than happy to get them.Nobody wanted Mario except the GM, and he has been fired.Vince Young dominated a lot last year and single handedly won the game IN Houston last year for the Titans. Mario has had ONE, count it ONE good game his entire career. He has been more of a failure than Bush or Young so far. They took a HUGE gamble selecting Mario #1 and so far it isn't working out like they had planned.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 8:29 PM. Reason : .]
10/8/2007 8:27:49 PM
So you don't think someone can be a bust unless they go #1?They are having terrible years, if they WERE drafted first, like you say they should have, then they would be busts according to your criteria. But I guess you're glad they didn't. I guess the only place Vince and Bush bust is in your mouth.[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 8:36 PM. Reason : ]
10/8/2007 8:34:53 PM
There is a reason teams RARELY take defensive players #1. And Vince and Bush have had multiple great games 5 game into their 2nd season. And like I said, Mario has had exactly one. So until he become the freak they drafted him to be, he is going to be a bust. Ok, he isn't a bust "yet" but he is well on his way if he keeps up at his current pace. Vince is playing fine, and its obvious to everyone in football except the Mario fans on here that they got the far superior player in the draft. If only you had some stats to show how Mario is living up to the hype, dominating, and winning games, sadly you don't. Teams don't draft players #1 in hopes they are average in the NFL. And that is all Mario is right now as an NFL player, "average"[Edited on October 8, 2007 at 8:40 PM. Reason : .]
