some xbox rag gave it a 95. But they gave halo a 96 and halo 2 a 99. Pretty safe to disregard their opinions.

^He's got a point. A few more reviews by PC publications would nice. Xbox games do seem to have a lower bar.[Edited on August 16, 2007 at 8:45 PM. Reason : :]

^^ yep in fact, i really never read reviews for the sake of buying a game. i like reading them for the sake of reading videogames news as a hobby. i get a game if i think i will like it. bulletwitch is an example of this, and i loved that game.

i know what you mean just wait until you see the full game just to be sure (yeah right i am sure now )
8/16/2007 8:48:40 PM
I'm not going to call it GOTY until Mass Effect comes out.I love Bioware RPG's, so whatever the ratings, that's probably going to be my favorite game all year.
8/16/2007 8:54:42 PM
It's pretty cool, I guess. The fact that I suck at console (or well, most) FPS games takes away some of the fun of it.Though lighting shit on fire is always a blast.

$10 off this week at all circuit city's
8/17/2007 9:46:28 AM
darn... I preordered
8/17/2007 10:05:38 AM
Yeah, I pre-ordered the LE last night from EB Games. Unfortunately, it is exclusive to them. However, if you're not getting the LE, I'd say Steam is your best bet. No tax, no standing in line, it'll already be installed, and best of all, no dealing with buggy as hell DVD security.[Edited on August 17, 2007 at 10:10 AM. Reason : :]

Haha, Sony Defense Force gave it a 5/10http://www.sonydefenseforce.com/?p=83Who could have ever guessed they would give this game a poor review?
8/17/2007 12:06:37 PM
hahaha"it's a 5 on any other console but a ps3 version would totally be a 10!!!1"
8/17/2007 12:10:12 PM
8/17/2007 12:12:01 PM
Whats funny is that the thing creating the texture compression limitation is the ammount of ram, not storage. And the 360 has more video ram than the ps3.When Carmack was talking about idtech 5 or whatever he was saying it was the #1 factor that caused their ps3 development to lag far behind pc and 360 development.
8/17/2007 12:14:28 PM
I'm pretty sure those reviews are meant to be more or less satire, and not actually taken seriously. However, to be fair, he does make a couple valid points. I watched the final version on the 360 played last night, and there were fair number of graphical hitches here and there. Not sure if they were related to loading from the DVD or what, but there it is. Not that it takes away at all from the quality of the game, but it does reaffirm my position that I'd much rather play this game on a PC (also keyboard/mouse controls and no pussy auto-aim).
8/17/2007 12:15:57 PM
I wonder if they would have bothered porting it to 360 if it wasn't as easy to do.

Satire or not, I love the last comment on that page about the review

but its all moot because a single 8800 has more ram total than either system has for both video and system.
8/17/2007 12:40:18 PM
Epic has long surpassed id as the top tog in engine development anyway.

Shrike, I've been a PC gamer way longer than a console, or just as long. Fuck, I first fired up Conquest of Camalot, Space Quest, Zonk, Quest for Glory, SSI games, the whole lot back when VGA wasn't a standard. CVGA / EGA for the win!!!!!And I have been ever since. I by no means feel it is objectively a superior platform. Lets get that clear. But I *personally* feel, and others do as well - that playing it on your home theatre is a great idea and a game like this with no competetive mutliplayer would be great on the 360 if you want to play it that way. Which I do. I spent alot of money on my home theatre setup b/c i love movies and games, so I wanna get that benefit. And this isn't becuase I own stock in Microsoft dude, I have a shitload of PC games....it's just I'd prefer to play it in my living room. To me the game is still more about exploration and immersion, and thats' what the replay value will be. Not just the combat. I personally feel the game doesnt need the combat engine AT ALL to bring what attracts me to it. Some would argue its not necesssary. I understand you dont agree with that, and that's cool. I'm just glad it appeals to everyone on different ways. But if I'm buying one version I'd rather it be the one that sends my books off of their shelfs, rumbles like crazy in my hand, and in 50 inches. That's only me though. In the end, I did say to each his/her own and I meant it.[Edited on August 17, 2007 at 4:02 PM. Reason : shazbot mcgee ]
8/17/2007 3:59:57 PM
defininitely to each his/her ownif you have a few friends over to play a game though, its certainly easier to hand them a controller and have a big screen TV to play the games on
8/17/2007 4:02:43 PM
You're not even making sense man. If all you care about is getting the best visual/aural experience possible out of the game, then that would mean hooking up your high powered PC to an HDTV and a home theater system. You get a higher resolution, DX10, better AA and texture filtering, and superior audio output than the 360 is capable of!!! On top of that, you don't have to struggle aiming with a shitty thumb stick. The 360 version is better for people who A. Don't own a good PC or B. prefer to game while lounging on a couch. If you prefer gaming on your couch over sitting in front of your PC, then great, more power to you. But stop acting the 360 is the superior version in any way, shape, or form. If you have the means, the PC blows it away. And honestly, this started with me saying a Keyboard + mouse is a superior control scheme for an FPS than a console remote. Is there anyone on the face of the planet that doesn't agree with that?[Edited on August 17, 2007 at 4:11 PM. Reason : :]
8/17/2007 4:06:56 PM
I'm really very confused about what just happened in this thread. There's enough combat in the game that if you're shitty at console FPS games, you'll definitely want to play it on a computer, which I believe was Shrike's whole point. To say it's 80% immersion and 20% shooter though, is completely wrong, however. Also, the best part of the game is that hacking machines is playing "Pipe Dream".
8/17/2007 4:11:09 PM
it doesnt blow it away, but it'll be the shizzle. couple of things you are leaving out - although I would love to hook up my high powered pc to my HDTV but a) its hella inconvenient...i mean shit, i dont want to have to move it back and forth from my office upstairs to my living room....dedicated media box or none at all. And that clearly is expensive...i dont have multiple rigs.b) i have a large plasma HDTV that won't pump that rez out, i dont have a 1080p or one of those huge nice LCDs. Its nice dont get me wrong..but not to that level.c) audio wise, the 360 is hooked up via lightpipe and digital audio. Again, I dont have that capability with a PC output/sound card from my receiver, even if i did have a dedicated media box.d) im an achievements whore. ive got like 10 friends with more and I NEED EM
8/17/2007 4:13:55 PM
stein you are a common troll. piss off.
8/17/2007 4:14:22 PM
8/17/2007 4:16:54 PM
^^^Cool, so the 360 version gives you the better experience given your setup, and the PC version gives me a better experience given mine. Did we really need several paragraphs of pointless back and forth to establish that?BTT, this game is gonna fucking rock
8/17/2007 4:21:37 PM
really who gives a fuck, we all will have fun not matter what you play it on. this console/pc argument is whack.
