pete rock was mainstream when i was coming up, so whatever
8/12/2007 7:40:18 PM
ahah yes when you were coming up, but now he'd be considered diggin in the crates when it was about that reel hip hop, etc.and just cause i'm like...2 years younger than you im guessin dosen't mean we didn't come up on the same shit, you can save the angst for the less knowledgeable folks on ze boards[Edited on August 12, 2007 at 7:45 PM. 8/12/2007 7:44:37 PM
then why would you act like Pete Rock is some kind of rare underground shit?? thats like saying The Rolling Stones or Earth, Wind and Fire are some kind of underground shit that only herbs with backpacks have heard of
8/12/2007 7:46:06 PM
digging in the crates dosen't equate to backpack music, at least not in my dictionaryjust saying its a different era of hip hop history. i'd say the same if you said dj premier was spinning at the club
8/12/2007 7:48:40 PM
all im saying is that i dont like or dislike music based on if its popular or not, i hope you wouldnt think i did, it just so happens that a lot of popular shit is garbage so i dont really have much reason to listen to the shit they play on (non satellite) radio or at the trendy shit clubs
8/12/2007 7:51:15 PM
BUT IVE ALREADY SAID SOULJA BOY IS HEAVILY ON SATELLITE RADIO. WATCH ME ROCK, WATCH ME ROLL.
8/12/2007 7:52:18 PM
i dont even have satellite radio, i just know they have like 8 different rap stations and they each have their nichelike i said though agree to disagree ftwi just dont like when people think i ONLY like some kind of rare snobbish shit and hate stuff BECAUSE its popular...cause i know that type too and thats not me[Edited on August 12, 2007 at 7:56 PM. ok, this shit has gotten waaaay the fuck off topic here.Nas loses points for ghostwriting for Will Smith.
8/12/2007 8:30:42 PM
in all fairness, i think they cancel each other out since jay writes for beyonce(is this comment too serious?)]

8/12/2007 9:07:25 PM
^ agreed. I'm gonna have to go with Jay-Z winning this battle. Maybe i'll listen to some old school Nas and give him a little more credit later today.
8/13/2007 10:19:07 AM
seriously, this is what, the 18th thread on this topic over the past 6-7 years? J_hova and twista always take a side, and the rest of us fall in line. it's like an annual event. as soon as nas releases his next album, this will come up again. personally, i'd take unk and that "tea bag" song over both of 'em, but that's just me...
8/13/2007 12:14:31 PM
thx for contributing, troll
8/13/2007 12:53:55 PM
hahaha, look back at the other 17 threads, i've contributed on this topic many times before. both are great. personally, i'd take jay-z over nas, but that's just one man's opinion. blueprint's one of my favorite rap albums of the decade, and nas has been too inconsistent since illmatic. although...i did like "hip hop is dead" 10X more than "kingdom come". word.
8/13/2007 1:54:44 PM
All I got to say is Ether....after that dropped it was game set and match to Nas. I don't care what Jay-Z has done before and since then but when I heard ether it was game over. Jay has done some hot shit over the years but I pick Nas anyday of the week.

yeah everybody says Nas won that battle...Ether may have been a hotter song. But for the better "lyricist" to resort to calling somebody a "fag" and shouting false bullshit really detracts from it for me. Jay talked about real shit. Considering Jay is now Nasir's boss, the argument is kinda moot.Illmatic is better than any Jay Z album but Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint and the Black Album are all much better than anything Nas has done since. Stillmatic and it was written were decent albums but they aren't fucking with the Blueprint. Since this is art, it's pretty subjective and there's not going to be a winner in this argument. Personally I like Jay Z better, though I recognize this may be because his beats are far superior. (but shouldn't that be at least a small factor when comparing the two as artists...they do have a choice in this). If Rappers were judged the same way we would judge sports figures, Jay would win this hands down. When Nas is on his game, he's far better than jay. But those times are rare. I think Nas gets too much credit for being "lyrical and deep" when sometimes he just uses words that young (or stupid)rap fans just don't understand while not actually saying shit. While success isn't how I would judge music, it's hard to ignore the fact that Jay Z ran shit for about 8 straight years while Nas had years where he wasn't even relevant.
8/13/2007 10:14:18 PM
hey i happened on a copy of blueprint again today and took it as fate so i gave it another spin and was reminded of how jays work went to pure garbage after the big pimpin timeframe.theres an artist who fits into rap culture and a rapper who tries to be an artist. nas and jay-z, there you have it.
8/13/2007 10:53:56 PM
yea i think this may be one of the great debates of hip-hop for some time to come. one thing is certain is that the fans win . i enjoyed the beef A LOT and the fact that no one died makes it even better.

the fact that this thread has so much parity sickens meall i will add today is
8/14/2007 10:10:08 AM
^^^^ are you saying the blueprint is garbage? 'cause that was two albums after big pimpin'. i think after the blueprint jay has fallen off, but that album was sick - and it had no dance hits or neptunes beats on it.
8/14/2007 11:36:27 AM
the REAL blueprint
8/14/2007 12:07:37 PM
yeah, i have that "blueprint" on tape, from back in middle school. but i like jay's better. "you must learn" still gets some spins in the walkman though.
8/14/2007 3:11:14 PM
just seems like Jay was biting the name pretty blatantly
8/14/2007 3:20:23 PM
