So, I sent mine in on monday and still havnt gotten an email that they have recieved it...when would I hear from them? when they begin working or what?
8/11/2007 5:18:15 PM
i dont recall ever getting an email about it, but it was a while back.
8/11/2007 5:40:28 PM
yes you get an email
8/12/2007 2:07:47 PM
They're sending brand new consoles now.I just received a brand new 360 (assembled on July 26th) for free. Also, enclosed was a letter apologizing for the inconvenience, and a free 30 day XBL card.
8/12/2007 11:11:05 PM
i disagreethe unit I just received (about 5 days ago) was manufactured july 26th, 2006.Are you sure you checked the year on that unit?[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 8:34 AM. Reason : .]
8/13/2007 8:34:17 AM
Yep pretty sure it says 2007. I was pretty darn amazed myself, but it is true. Could be just me being positive, but I think the heat coming out of the backside is a LOT less than from my old 360. This one is definitely not a refurb as it has that plastic tape on the IR sensor. I did however give Microsoft a lot of hell about my dead 360, talking to their supervisors, and posting on the official xbox forums, even taking on the moderators on there, which might have helped my case. I remember getting an email from Major Nelson about my 360.
8/13/2007 9:40:50 AM
damnwhich they would have sent a new one to meyou didn't get one of the newer ones with the hdmi port did you?
8/13/2007 10:13:07 AM
Nope...but then I don't care about HDMI anyway.I doubt anyone would get the HDMI version, because they send you a new Core model, which doesn't have HDMI. I think it's just the premium and the Elite.[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 10:16 AM. Reason : .]

got my email this morning. hopefully they just send me a new one.Gargs, how long was yours gone before they sent you your new one?
8/13/2007 11:03:12 AM
mine was received by microsoft on july 26th, and shipped back to me august 2ndtook about 4 days for coffin to get to me, and i received my xbox probably 4 days after getting that email on the 2nd
8/13/2007 11:22:32 AM
wow thats quick..they told me 4-5 weeks
8/13/2007 11:28:28 AM
I didn't receive any emails from Microsoft. After 5 days, I got a call from UPS to expect a package, and then next day picked up a brand new console.Funny thing was that there were 2 360s for people with the same first name as mine. Also, I saw about 6 white xbox boxes at the UPS depot. A lot of the first ones seem to have died.I am pretty happy. Anyone know if I get a new 3 year warranty, or just the remaining year on my old one? Technically, it's a new 360!.
8/13/2007 11:38:48 AM
the warranty remains from your original purchase date
8/13/2007 11:43:53 AM
So how much would it suck to be the engineer who designed the 360's cooling solution? How does a failure of this magnitude happen at an established company?
8/13/2007 12:03:40 PM
Sony comes to mind.
8/13/2007 12:04:08 PM
Haha, well I meant an engineering failure, not a business failure. But I guess Sony did that, too, with the PS2 disc drives.
8/13/2007 12:12:26 PM
haha - I love it when people compare the small batch of bad opticals out of the 100M PS2's sold to a third of 360's failing
8/13/2007 12:39:22 PM
I'd hardly call that a small batch.Every PS2 in my hall freshman year had read errors. And hell, at least MS is copping to it. PS2 owners were SOL when their boxes stopped reading.[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 12:48 PM. Reason : .]

The fact remains, the 360 and PS2's problems aren't comparable. The root of the PS2's problem was a cheap part used in the manufacturing of the optical drives found in the first few years of PS2s. The failure was essentially do to wear and tear of that part, and generally didn't pop up till years after ownership, with many people never having any problems at all. The 360's problem is due to a design flaw in it's cooling system that's causing these things to brick months if not weeks after purchase. You're talking about a long term reliability issue on the PS2, compared to a fuck up of epic proportions that started with whoever mocked up the design of the thing. We don't even know anything about the 360's long term reliability, since it's been out for less than 2 years. If you want to compare it to the PS2, compare it to the percentage of PS2s that failed between 2000 and 2002, not over it's entire lifetime.[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 1:06 PM. Reason : :]

8/13/2007 1:05:36 PM
True, 3 years is long for an XBox. They completely scrapped the first one after 5.Also, the 3 year warranty is only for the RROD.[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 1:12 PM. Reason : :]

the best game for the ps3 is a ps2 game - god of war 2
8/13/2007 1:22:18 PM
8/13/2007 1:22:33 PM
pretty much the only thing that has bricked the 360s are this design flaw. i would say that that 3 year warranty would give you about a 90% chance that it would last longer than 3 years.
8/13/2007 1:25:05 PM
8/13/2007 1:26:57 PM
5 years is the standard now. Sony has to stick with PS2 to have some type of profit in the gaming industry. I believe the N64 only lasted 5 years, are they still making gamecube games anymore? I'm not sure.Anyway, you're only going to get about 5 years out of a console before they drop it and move on to bigger/better.
8/13/2007 1:31:30 PM
naw, the gc has officially been abandoned.
8/13/2007 1:34:17 PM
^^^I'm gonna stop before this thread turns into another system wars. You can go troll the main PS3 thread if you like. However, I will say before you go on spouting nonsense, go compare the holiday lineups for both consoles. Also, go look at the PS3 vs. 360 sales in July. Finally, the only long term plan Microsoft has realized so far with the XBox is the plan to lose $5.6 billion dollars only to be completely trumped by the Nintendo Wii in their power grab for market share.
8/13/2007 1:35:35 PM
I have yet to see actual in-game videos for anything PS3 related in the future.Have you seen the X360 holiday lineup? Also, didn't Sony basically try to copy the Wii, and yet failed? What makes you think only Microsoft is the loser? At least, Microsoft has publicly condoned Nintendo's foresight and innovations, instead of Sony trying to copy everything.
8/13/2007 1:37:52 PM
its all about choice. really neither one is 'better' than the other. they both would offer an indefinite number of hours of entertainment to anyone.
8/13/2007 1:38:03 PM
8/13/2007 1:41:57 PM
he probably is talking about the controller, but don't quote me on that.
8/13/2007 1:44:07 PM
LOLYou're blaming me for not using Google in the same post where you ask me to show you where Sony copied Nintendo.
8/13/2007 1:46:02 PM
Oh, I'm sure he's talking about the controls. I dunno, maybe he just has poor vision and can't tell the difference between a Sixaxis and a Wiimote. Or maybe he thinks that motion sensitive control is something Nintendo invented just last year, and not something that has been tried and done for years and years on multiple platforms from arcades to home consoles (Eyetoy much?). Or maybe he's just retarded troll. Yeah, I think it's that last one.
8/13/2007 1:51:07 PM
waiteyetoy had gyroscopes?
8/13/2007 1:54:09 PM
If you want to continue arguing, either create another thread, or go into the "who has a ps3" threadBack on Topic.Have there been any reports of elites going down? Or do they have the same hardware as the upgraded premiums?
8/13/2007 3:10:40 PM
The newer Elites have the additional heatsink...and they come with the same 3 year warrantyIf that answers your question.
8/13/2007 3:11:34 PM
well, what do you know. I get home from work and there's an overnight envelope from FedEx waiting. I open it up and there's a letter from Microsoft saying that their records show that I didn't receive the "compensatory" Xbox Live card. So, now I have 2 months of Xbox Live free! Although, with the money they spent on overnighting me the card, I wish they had just emailed me the code for like a 6 month subscription.
8/14/2007 6:49:09 PM
nice...they said 4-5 weeks but i just got the email that said its shipped...so they probably sent me a new one.
8/15/2007 1:22:46 PM
Yeah, more than likely.I have a newfound respect for Microsoft after this.Might have to buy a new Windows laptop just to maintain my Apple/Microsoft balance.
8/15/2007 1:23:58 PM
I definitely wish I would have gotten in on thisI think mine was one of the last ones they sent that wasn't new but refurbushed
8/15/2007 1:35:39 PM
Well, pray to Allah that you get the RROD again.
8/15/2007 1:36:42 PM
i got a 360 in may, brought it home only to open up to the ring of red, took it back, exchanged it, worked for 2 games of NCAA 2k7, then red lights againgot a 3rd one and a week later that one crapped out on me too,i just exchanged it and will probably get a wii or ps3 within the next few months
8/15/2007 2:32:03 PM
i don't believe that
