RIP SkipHe revitalized Wake's program, and got the fans more pumped up. He's one reason why attendance at Wake went up. Also he helped get the Screamin' Demons (student section organization) and the Tie Dye Nation going. The Screamin' Demons is a great organization. I think you can only miss like 3 games during the season before getting your tickets revoked. Maybe if State did something similar we'd have less asshats coming into the RBC Center only for the Carolina and Duke games, and the ones there would be less of the "I'm a Carolina/Duke fan that goes to State" types in the student section. I hope Wake honors Skip somehow. I wonder if they would consider hiring his one son that coaches at Bucknell. Just make sure to keep the assistants.
7/26/2007 6:05:11 PM
IOW, he was the chuck amato of their basketball program.Unfortunate for Wake, regardless.
7/26/2007 6:07:34 PM
7/26/2007 6:15:55 PM
^^ IOW?you mean IOWA? and he never coached there anyway fool

wtf? what have i said that wsa suspending worthy
7/26/2007 6:28:54 PM
Not really anything at the moment. I just have every confidence that it won't take you long.
7/26/2007 6:29:50 PM
I wouldn't say he was the Chuck Amato of their basketball program. Yes both recorded the most wins in a season for their respective schools (27 for Skip, 11 for Chuck), but Skip ended up winning the ACC Regular Season and ACC Coach of the Year in 2003. Chuck never placed first in the conference.
7/26/2007 6:30:23 PM
Sucks, but I hope we can get one of his recruits
7/26/2007 6:45:23 PM
^^Those distinctions are pretty arbitrary because they are of the "moral victory" type (iow, not that important) and they are ones that can't be compared across sports. In basketball, regular season accolades pale in comparison to post season ones. For example, wake has the best regular season record in the conference in basketball -- all that does is cause their seeding to change 2-4 spots. Big damn deal.In football, if wake has the top record, they go to a BCS bowl. That's a big deal. One or two more losses, you get a next-tier bowl such as Peach or Gator. More than that and you get a shitty bowl. The lack of a post season tournament, the fewer number of games, and the bigger effect on post season destiny makes football regular season accolades much more important. Coach of the year is often just "we thought he was going to be shitty, he surpassed expectations." It doesn't speak to absolute coaching ability. Repeat COY distinctions really speak to ability, though. Regardless of what titles you want to attach to them, it's pretty clear that Amato and Prosser had similar levels of coaching talent compared to their peers in their respective sports. Great recruiters, great program builders, mediocre coaches.[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 7:19 PM. Reason : l';]

I never thought he'd go out with a heart attack, I figured he'd just choke on something.

I've always been worried about Gary Williams.
7/26/2007 8:38:00 PM
They're doing a press conference right now. Apparently Nancy wasn't notified until mid-evening, because she was traveling. That's why they tried to keep it hushed up.
7/26/2007 9:12:07 PM
the weirdest thing was there where so many different stories about where and how it happenedi read one where he was jogging and collapsedone where he was in his office and collapasedthat he took a plane from florida this morningthat he was in las vegas yesterdayand it wasn't on Wake's website or the athletics siteit's just all really strange how there was no official story until late[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 9:13 PM. Reason : now it seems they've put all the stories together]
7/26/2007 9:12:25 PM
The spokesman's timeline:He took a red-eye flight from Las Vegas to Orlando yesterday. This morning he was on a 6am flight and came back to Winston Salem. He was working out in the heat of the day. Jogged around the track at noon today, and came back to the office (as he always did). Went to his office and was found "in a state that he needed to be resucitated." They did CPR and transported to hospital and pronounced dead at 1:41[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 9:18 PM. Reason : timeline]
7/26/2007 9:15:23 PM
i'm just saying...earlier it was "collapsed while jogging"find another article and it was "collapsed in his office"now it's "collapsed in his office after jogging" which is fine...it was just really weird that no one really knew what the story really was
7/26/2007 9:19:04 PM
Skip Prosser flew back to Winston-Salem from Florida. He then ran on the track, which is outside the athletics center/his office. He returned to the office after the run.Mike Muse, Director of Basketball Operations found him on the couch and began CPR. Mike then had to close the Wake basketball camp that was going on this week.Prosser was taken to Baptist Hospital but never revived.Hope that clears things up.
7/26/2007 9:49:50 PM

i know its a rival, but i heard the news yesterday and my heart sank. It always sucks when you hear that someone dies, but when its someone that you've watched for years and has actually been a part of your life(however small it was), its quite saddening. Prayers to the Prosser family and the Wake Forest family.
7/27/2007 1:11:47 PM
