i didn't notice eric johnson's "cliffs of dover" yet, but that whole song is rediculous.on a random note i'm gonna throw in darkest hour's "tranquil." it's not the most amazing solo ever, but the squeal at 1:47 is brilliantly placed and makes me cream my jeans everytime. not to mention it's a pretty technical bit.

^Wow, good clip of JW with the "still alive and well" line up of randy hobbs and richard hughes.I know he denounces his rock and roll days now, but I loved those early albums.my fav solo of all time is Highway 61 revisited off the "captured live" album.

Normal People Music: Probably any van halen songRock Fans: Megadeth Marty Friedman daysMetal fans: The Funeral Portrait by Opeth is probably the best solo i've ever heard in my life.around 4:30 Mike and peter's ability to play from pretty much random chord progressions that don't really fit together always amazed me.Another example here at like 3:35ish. Only thing by Frederik that lives up to peter's place in opeth. Most technical? probably something by Bumblefoot or Guthrie Govan. Their styles just transcend too many genres. Its rare to find people like them who are extremely talented at playing metal, jazz, fusion, blues, flamenco, big band and at the same time have incredible presence and originality. I'm walls1441 and i approve of this message./]

Try out this Blackmore solo (don't be distracted by the first 30-45 secs):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLyqdzu-F4kBtw, had the good fortune to see Eric Johnson a few times back around 1980-1 when he toured about in TX prior to his studio albums. His sets were more blues rock oriented than his later studio material - which is to say, some smoking jams.

the first thing that comes to mind is the end of "Chickamauga" by Uncle Tupeloit is a guitar breakdown/solo that, to me, sums up and entire band and, further, movement of musichttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDeLHEjjzkgFavorite soloists include Frank Zappa, Duane Allman, Jerry Garcia, and Dave Gilmour. But the guy whose solos I feel like I remember, note-for-note, when I listen to an album or show over again, is Trey Anastasio. Sweetest fucking tone, the whole band is full of amazing musicians and outsiders overlook that fact due to "antics" and "the scene."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lWi1dGT9UY he SHREDShttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjdtttgAGTM good quality on this one, from the doc
