i was surprised that there are 7.5 gallons in a cubic foot of water--you look at a gallon of milk and it doesn't seem right

I get 3.77123395021334765188e-6 cubic sqrt(acre), using 1030 kg/m^3 for seawater density.^look at a box that's 1 ft on each edge you could fit 3 or 4 milk jugs into it with plenty of space in between.[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 5:39 PM. Reason : ]

63 losers in 63 games.

5050oh yeah, now i remember--it's 50*100+50 b/c it's (100+0) + (99+1) + (98 + 2) etc[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 6:32 PM. Reason : ...]

^^100*101/2 = 5050who supposedly came up with this formula in his grade school class?
7/19/2007 6:30:48 PM
Gauss
7/19/2007 6:55:26 PM
I was homeschooled and one day my mom said I could take the rest of the school day off if I could tell her what the sum of all the integers from 1 to 1,000,000 was. I just said that since the numbers are evenly spaced, the average was (1,000,000 + 1) / 2. The sum was then the average times the number of numbers (1,000,000). She didn't let me take the rest of the day off even though I was right.

the first question isnt possible because flood control limits you to one post every 45 seconds
7/19/2007 7:48:42 PM
A typical regular sheet of paper is 0.1 mm thick. You fold it in half, then half again, and you do this 50 times. How high is the folded sheet after the last fold? How many folds are needed to reach (or go beyond) the sun? Distance to sun = 150 million km.
7/19/2007 7:50:12 PM
you cant fold a single sheet of paper 50 timesthe question is flawed
7/19/2007 7:50:54 PM
wow, here comes the idiot.this is a math question.actually, you can even calculate how large a sheet of paper should be so that you can fold it X number of times.[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 7:59 PM. Reason : ]
7/19/2007 7:58:50 PM
no it is a flawed questionhave you seen mythbusters?nevermind, you wouldnt have seen it
[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 8:00 PM. Reason : at least i didnt piss myself once i was out of diapers
7/19/2007 7:59:24 PM
jesus you moron.i know it can only be done 6 or 7 times with a letter sized paper.this is a MATH QUESTION [Edited on July 19, 2007 at 8:01 PM. Reason : but you are pissing yourself now over a math question you apparently can't solve.]
7/19/2007 8:00:24 PM
well there is no size of paper that you can fold 50 timesyour question is flawed
7/19/2007 8:01:09 PM
lets do differential shitsay someone drunk a liter of cola, (RAMROD)and they go to bednow say they piss the bed at a rate of .09liters/sechow long will it take for them to piss the entire liter if they taper off exponentially at the end?
7/19/2007 8:02:55 PM
hey it is ok... no need to feel jealous if you can't do it.a lot of questions in this thread have been hypothetical.have you ever opened a math/physics text book?obviously not.
7/19/2007 8:02:58 PM
well obviously if i can point out that it is flawed i must be able to use logic and reasoningreally the only things you have to be able to do to solve a math problem
7/19/2007 8:04:26 PM
oh i get it... you are trolling me!damn me for falling for your trolling.troll away as much as want.Question for everybody else:
7/19/2007 8:05:59 PM
why would you waste your time trying to solve a flawed questionthe result is meaningless
7/19/2007 8:06:52 PM
7/19/2007 8:08:15 PM
Actually, mathematically speaking (which is all that matters here, as it is a MATH thread), the question is not flawed. It is perfectly valid. PWNTSo you lose even in trying to troll me.^ Read my post in the sleeping pills thread in the Lounge!!! [Edited on July 19, 2007 at 8:11 PM. Reason : ]
7/19/2007 8:10:01 PM
no actually it is a flawed question because you cant fold a piece of paper 50 timesthe result is meaningless
7/19/2007 8:11:10 PM
ASSUME THE PAPER IS LARGE ENOUGH THAT IT CAN BE FOLDED 50 TIMES.The paper they constructed on Mythbusters could probably have been folded 20 times. The reason they didn't fold it that many times is because they changed the direction of folding after each fold (thereby folding the creases -- which are the thickest part -- every time). The optimum way to fold the paper is to fold it across the same axis as many times as possible, then rotate it and fold it as many times as possible across the perpendicular axis. TRY IT YOURSELF.[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 8:19 PM. Reason : ]

The thickness is doubling each timeso after 50 folds, the paper is 112,589,990,684,262.4 mm thickso thats about to the sun in just 50 folds[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 8:13 PM. Reason : exponential growth ftw]
