Let's be real: survivorman is more boring.

He might have to carry the camera, but he still takes more survival gear with him. He also might do more sensible things, but it's still boring and not as bad ass as man v wild. I couldn't care less if survivorman is more educational than mvw -- I don't see myself in the same situation anytime soon.

good job les on his walden pond/thoreau adventure....

Quote :
"Grylls passed UK Special Forces Selection, serving as a sabre soldier, trained in unarmed combat, desert and winter warfare, combat survival, medics, parachuting, signals, evasive driving, climbing and explosives"

if i was trapped in the wilderness, i would rather have bear with me anyday

Quote :
"Grylls' first book titled Facing Up, went into the UK top 10 best-seller list, and was launched in the USA titled, The Kid Who Climbed Everest. Its subject is his expedition, at 23 years old, to climb to the summit of Mount Everest. The book details the climb, from his first reconnaissance climb on which he fell in a crevasse and was knocked unconscious, coming to swinging on the end of a rope, to the grueling ascent that took him over ninety days of extreme weather, sleep deprivation and almost running out of oxygen inside the death zone.

"

not to mention he did this right after breaking his back from a 16,000 foot freefall
"

so, pretty much, your support for this guy stems from his obviously poor planning and execution as well as (despite his world class training) his inability to properly operate his top-dollar high tech equipment
what it boils down to, essentially , is that every time he failed, he didn't fail so horribly that he died. Or, more susinctly, he has never failed to fuck up at failing

generally, this is where someone feels the need to drop the logic-bomb of "WELL LET'S SEE YOU DO IT"

A smart man will anticipate a failure and be able to minimize it. A lesser man will be naive enough to think they won't happen.

Hard to make a case against the guy if he has managed to stay (mostly) in one piece after taking so many risks.

Wrong. I'm just not capable of respecting a man's talents just because he gets his ass handed to him by things like dirt, air, and water on a pretty regular basis

what the fuck

did anyone else see him doing naked push-ups in the snow?

NOW THAT'S SURVIVAL

Did I fail to mention his excuse was to warm himself up after INTENTIONALLY JUMPING INTO AN ICE-COLD CREEK TO DEMONSTRATE HOW TO ESCAPE FROM A FROZEN POND?

This fag will die within 2 years and I'm going to feel absolutely ZERO pain for him

^ & ^^ yeah that was nuts (no pun intended)

but this is sort of turning into an outdoorsy version of Jackass, to say the least. obviously it's not so hard to get out that he needs to conserve energy, since he has all this extra time and energy to spend "demonstrating" survival techniques

I'm not buying into that BBC news BS. You guys are all assholes if you are going to believe everything the media tells you. Its the medias job to ruin the credibility of everyone they possibly can, you know that!

By the way, anyone that calls Bear a fag is pretty fucking stupid.

Apparently you retards need me to post this in this thread too

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article2116195.ece

Quote :
" an adviser to Born Survivor has disclosed that at one location where the adventurer claimed to be a “real life Robin-son Crusoe” trapped on “a desert island”, he was actually on an outlying part of the Hawaiian archipelago and spent nights at a motel."

Quote :
"On another occasion in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains where he was filmed biting off the head of a snake for breakfast and struggling for survival “with just a water bottle, a cup and a flint for making fire”, he actually slept some nights with the crew in a lodge fitted with television and internet access. The Pines Resort at Bass Lake is advertised as “a cosy getaway for families” with blueberry pancakes for breakfast."

Quote :
"In one episode Grylls, son of the late Tory MP Sir Michael Grylls, was shown apparently building a Polynesian-style raft using only materials around him, including bamboo, hibiscus twine and palm leaves for a sail.

But according to Mark Weinert, an Oregon-based survival consultant brought in for the job, it was he who led the team that built the raft. It was then dismantled so that Grylls could be shown building it on camera.
"

Quote :
"In another episode viewers watched as Grylls tried to coax an apparently wild mustang into a lasso in the Sierra Nevada. “I’m in luck,” he told viewers, apparently coming across four wild horses grazing in a meadow. “A chance to use an old native American mode of transport comes my way. This is one of the few places in the whole of the US where horses still roam wild.”

In fact, Weinert said, the horses were not wild but were brought in by trailer from a nearby trekking station for the “choreographed” feature.
"

Like I said before, the show is complete bullshit. I don't blame Bear either. He put in his time doing real shit, now he is just raking in some cash.

But every one of you is a retard who thinks MvW is more "authentic" or "real" than Survivorman. Bear probably COULD do fine on his own, but he isn't.

Either way, Les is a whiney bitch. I would much rather watch a dude that moves around and does shit than listen to Wes whine and bitch about the camera equipment, and watch him sit on his ass for most of the episode.

put it all in the correct frame of reference

i used to like bear alot more than the suvivor dude, but now that it has all come out that he cheats, I will watch both shows equally

They travelled to Goldsborough Lake ( 50°41'55?N, 89°20'46?W) deep in the Wabakimi and built a cabin with no metal, plastic, or otherwise manufactured tools. They took a store of traditional foods and attempted to supplement it by hunting and trapping. Family and medical emergencies brought them out of the bush on two occasions. Their primitive living experience was filmed by Stroud and released as the 50 minute documentary, Snowshoes and Solitude, which was named Best Documentary at the Muskoka Film Festival and Best Film at the Waterwalker Film Festival.[8]

Man vs Wild: This is what I'd do if I was all alone and in a survival situation
Survivorman: This is what Im doing, currently in a semi-survival situation, by myself in the wilderness.

I like both shows, and I'm sure whatever either of them show would help in the event of a survival situation......if I had to rule one way or the other though it'd be in favor of Les Stroud because one episode of MvW when Bear was supposed to be using a backpack full of clothes as a "floatation" device while navigating a river. However when he stops to talk to the cameras you can clearly see a lifejacket floating up his neck under his regular jacket..

Grylls is the star of "Man vs. Wild," an increasingly popular series on Discovery Channel that recently concluded its second season. Each episode he parachutes into a different uninhabited territory without a map or much else in the way of camping equipment and spends several days trying to find his way back to civilization.

But this British adventurer is now the subject of an investigation by U.K.'s Channel 4, which already has confirmed that Grylls checked into motels on a few occasions when he was depicted on TV having slept under the stars. Other allegations have been made suggesting that the crew that records Grylls in action isn't as hands-off as it might appear to viewers."

FACE

"On the news, they showed a clip from an episode where Grylls approaches "wild horses" and attempts to ride them, when they were actually horses that were rented from a local riding stable"
