^Yeah i can understand the Charlotte hate now. As much as you probably don't want to admit it, living in matthews probably slightly effected your view on Charlotte. Lets say if you lived in Elizabeth, or Dilworth, your opinion might be slightly different. Just a guess. On a second note Calvin, my ferret, just ran under my desk and pounced on the power strip button, thus resulting in everything shutting down. I think he's telling me to get off the wolf web. Yeah i know i'm a dork for having a ferret. Anyone see the Body Worlds exhibit at discovery place?

i'm just saying, i've been to asheville 5x more than charlotte for concerts and they really only have one venue to speak of. (and i pay attn to pretty much all the tours that go through the state).the triangle has a lot of venues that get good bands (not just cat's cradle). unfortunately raleigh recently lost king's, but hopefully that will be back up in the next year.
7/19/2007 6:55:40 PM
i like charlotte more than the triangle but i've definitely seen better shows (at small venues) in the trianglemost shows at big venues (or lots of them) are at both Verizon and Alltel (or whtaver the fuck the names of the pavilions are now)
7/19/2007 6:58:04 PM
what about amos' southend or the tremont?
7/19/2007 6:59:11 PM
yeah i've seen good shows there as well but i've seen more shows at the cradle i think i went to shows more often in college (when i was in the triangle) than i do now so maybe that has something to do with italso some of the spots in NoDa like Neighborhood Theater[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 7:02 PM. 7/19/2007 7:01:23 PM
all i'm saying is that very few tours (that i'm interested in) go through charlotte and not the triangle. (actually very few of them go through charlotte at all -- i guess they opt for the orange peel if they're in that area).

I lived in Charlotte, and now live in Raleigh, and there is no way in hell I would even move back to Charlotte.People talk about the banking there like its a good thing! What the hell, i would never want to be surrounded by a bunch of corporate posers at the bar. I guess it's good, if that's your kind of scene. Downtown may have more tall buildings, but when the hell does that make it a city? Do you guys not consider Paris a city? It has ONE tall building, and if that's any indication, it's a freaking monstrosity. The skyscrapers in Charlotte are only even nice from far away, when you're uptown they're too close and it feels way too claustraphobic.Oh yeah, Charlotte has no soul, I agree. It has a Billy Graham parkway for god's sake (pun intended) so I beleive that ends the subject of soul right there!I mean Charlotte does have a few redeemble qualities, like Freedom Park and the eastend are nice. But it's only overall nice for wanna posers and yuppies who want to live in a McMansion, it's queen city of urban sprawl.I mean Raleigh does have sprawl too, going to North Raleigh is kind of crazy too, but the people are not nearly as insane as Charlotteans, I don't understand how people don't see that. It's like everyone in Charlotte is either a bible thumper or an asshole, or usually (unfortunatly) both.Anyway, Raleigh real estate prices are rising faster than Charlotte, if that's any indicator of where people want to be. The industries in the different places are indicative of the kind of people who live in the respective places. You need to be creative and innovative to live and work in Raleigh, but you need to yes-man peon to live and work in Charlotte. Raleigh has education and erudition (40% of our population has a 4-year degree, I think only San Fransico is higher). So if these things are any indication Raleigh is going to surpass Charlotte in even more areas.

^^oh and:
7/25/2007 11:26:27 AM
this one: http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/Departments/elearning/?article=educatedcities says raleigh is number 3. so you're both wrong.
7/25/2007 11:32:21 AM
^I don't know if that's right. It might be way out of date. I've found serveral lists that rank Boulder as number one. http://www.forbes.com/entrepreneurs/2006/12/14/boulder-education-cities-ent_cx_ee_1215smartcities.htmlor http://www.forbes.com/lists/2007/1/07bestplaces_Best-Places-For-Business-And-Careers_EdAttRank.html (ranked by Educational Attainment)Seattle isn't on a list. I don't know why or how these lists differ. Both say they get data from the US census.[Edited on July 25, 2007 at 11:42 AM. Reason : .]
7/25/2007 11:41:17 AM
several lists? those are both based on the same data collection.heres a different one: http://www.bizjournals.com/edit_special/40.htmli guess the bottom line is that there is conflicting reporst. who knows which survey is actually correct.[Edited on July 25, 2007 at 11:47 AM. Reason : d]

^Hey i like your list better. And it seems more accurate. Fine by me. It puts Charlotte number 6. Number 1 in the carolinas!

7/25/2007 11:53:37 AM
^^haha yea. There's more "bible thumpers" in Raleigh, NC. I found that out pretty quickly after going to state. Despite being alot of bankers Charlotte is NOT a big bible belt city. http://www.bizjournals.com/specials/pages/12.htmlIn regard to Charlotte being number 6. Raleigh isn't even in the top 50!!!^oh you're so right. North Carolina has some of the best universities in the United States. So yes, being the city with the highest percentage of college grads in the state is defin a good thing to be proud of. I still love Raleigh, but i can't believe it's not in the top 50 for smartest cities.[Edited on July 25, 2007 at 12:00 PM. Reason : .]

^You got me, i didn't see that. I've lived in Charlotte my whole life and Raleigh these past 3 years. I didn't realize Charlotte was catagorized as a "large" city, and Raleigh a "medium" city.[Edited on July 25, 2007 at 12:11 PM. Reason : wrong link]
7/25/2007 12:04:21 PM
again, i think you're incorrect (atleast according to your link)raleigh is ranked the 88th liberal and 150th conservative citycharlotte is ranked 112th liberal and 125th conervative.[Edited on July 25, 2007 at 12:08 PM. Reason : d]
7/25/2007 12:08:14 PM
^i'm wrong again. I posted the wrong link. Both cities vote democrat majority, like any other big city. I guess it's hard to tell which is more liberal or conservative. I'll shutup now. I think even NC State is almost split. [Edited on July 25, 2007 at 12:12 PM. Reason : .]
7/25/2007 12:10:46 PM
well, your link did a pretty good job of ranking i thinkhere it is since you removed it:http://alt.coxnewsweb.com/statesman/metro/081205libs.pdf
7/25/2007 12:12:46 PM
^yeah control-f to find it. I don't know how they rank them though. I guess they do it according to percent vote. But again they're pairing republican with conservative and democrat with liberal. There's issues by itself in that method of listing. http://votingresearch.org/USAstudyCArelease.pdfThat's weird i didn't know So Cal was the most conservative in the US. While Northern Cal was the most liberal. [Edited on July 25, 2007 at 12:18 PM. Reason : .]
7/25/2007 12:14:16 PM
well, if you read it, it says that they are ranked according to the percentage of liberal vs conservative votes during the 2004 presidential elections.while its not perfect (since they aren't taking into account the people that don't vote) i think its a pretty decent way of ranking since the people who don't vote don't care enough about politics to do so, so they shouldn't be included as a conservative or a liberal.
7/25/2007 12:18:02 PM
^But again that means it ranks people who voted for Bush conservative and people who voted for Kerry liberal. I don't think liberal, and conservative should be watered down to simply that.
7/25/2007 12:20:38 PM
agreed...but there are more then 2 candidates running for president. id be interseted to see how the categorized the other candidates.
7/25/2007 12:23:31 PM
^exactly, don't know. You're cool though cause you have a sloth in your bio. Sloths are kick ass.
7/25/2007 12:28:46 PM
census doesnt count college students, cary or surrounding cities while it counts a land area twice the size for charlottes. raleigh really dominates every category if you count those things. thats why i made this thread. keep point
7/26/2007 11:53:13 AM
sounds like penis envy you need to jump off charlotte's dong. it'll always be better, no matter how many threads you make

7/26/2007 12:09:05 PM
If I could trade Charlotte for Myrtle Beach, I would. That's how much Charlotte sucks.
7/26/2007 12:13:03 PM
where did you used to live in charlotte bridget?
7/26/2007 12:21:41 PM
^^These Raleigh wankers really need to learn how to experience a city. Raleigh doesn't suck and Charlotte doesn't suck either. There's great aspects of both. Charlotte has probably twice the amount of bars, twice the amounts of places to eat, etc etc. You just have more options in Charlotte. Sure the range of shit to do spans bigger in terms of shittty to great, but you can't put down either city until you've experienced the great aspects of each city. Anyone in here like ^^ who blindly insult a single city haven't experienced what that city has to offer. A truely intellectual person who values the diversity of each city will only comment on the positive aspects of each city, not blindly focus on the negative ones. Any well-traveled person will rarely blindly insult a city without providing proof that it also has quite a few very redeeming features. Most of my friends in Charlotte who have only been to Raleigh a couple times say it sucks ass too, because it's so small, but they just haven't experienced what Raleigh has to offer yet. Same goes for Raleigh residents who've only been to Charlotte a couple times.[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 12:29 PM. Reason : .]
7/26/2007 12:24:41 PM
well who wouldn't want to trade a sprawling banking city for one of the best beaches in the world?
7/26/2007 12:49:55 PM
myrtle beach is basically charlotte with an ocean except myrtle is a lot trashiermaybe charlotte should trade saks 5th avenue and louis vuitton stores for Wings and Eagles...then we could trade places like Capital Grille and McIntosh's for McDonald's and Captain D's...who wouldnt want that???
7/26/2007 12:58:32 PM
^haha nice. My girlfriend works at Mimosa, and Arpa when she's home for the summer in downtown Charlotte. These places make Raleigh's fine dining look like Ruby Tuesdays. Remember bankers spend more money on food than government employees. I've personally met some of the managers and owners of some of the oldest fine dining places in the state at fundraisers, and they'd laugh at you if you asked them about places to eat in Myrtle Beach. They'd tell you to go back and drink your budlight and play on your surf boards at Myrtle Beach's pathetic excuse for waves. Then they'd probably turn a blind eye, and pretend like they didn't even talk to you.
