I might be going to see these guys in Greensboro since they're on tour with HORSE the band. Love those guys.
8/22/2007 10:15:13 AM
yea i wish i could go to that one. just gonna end up going to the charlotte one and at least one of the SC ones
8/22/2007 10:21:13 AM
It sounds good but a lot like the last one.
8/22/2007 12:42:13 PM
i think you ought to give it a new, complete listen.I'd say it's 20x more dynamic than Alaska. the compositions on this one blow me away, seriously.BTW...i REALLY want to go to Greensboro (Green St. is fucking awesome), but I live oohhh, 4.5 hours away.[Edited on August 22, 2007 at 12:49 PM. Reason : SAD]
8/22/2007 12:48:26 PM
yea the 2nd and 3rd song and first half of the 4th sound a decent bit like alaska then it changes completely at that point and alaska is clearly an afterthought musically at that point
8/22/2007 1:56:33 PM
this album makes me want to drop $2k on car audio.i haven't done that in years.
8/22/2007 1:57:44 PM
haha yea i know what you mean. i keep telling myself im just going to wait until i get a new car or so a year from now tho :/
8/22/2007 1:59:10 PM
It reminds me more of the cover album, I am gonna give it another chance on the way home tonite.
8/22/2007 2:00:50 PM
^^I just got a new car, and within 2 months of that, lost my full-time job. I am now just bartending 3-4 nights a week. So, I'm not exactly in the market for a full-blown car stereo system (I don't half-ass car audio). ^omg, really? the cover album was kinda boring to me, save for 3-4 tracks. "Colors" has me driving past my house just to further indulge in the sonic euphoria.
8/22/2007 2:04:16 PM
yea ive said it in the other threads too but tracks 4-8 really blow 1-3 out of the water. the harmonies on those last tracks are ridiculously well crafted from a guitar standpoint. my favorite block of music on the cd would have to be the last half(~5mins) of sun of nothing through ants of the sky into the beginning of prequel to the sequel (~2mins or so). its so hard to pick tracks the way the album is recorded but that stretch of music (about 21mins) is flawless^eek that sucks [Edited on August 22, 2007 at 2:06 PM. Reason : ]
8/22/2007 2:05:29 PM
hahahahha same here. same exact block of music for me, too. Every time I listen, I wonder how the hell they produce, reproduce such obtuse changes in music. I'm actually angry that I won't be able to see them on this tour.
8/22/2007 2:07:51 PM
yea the first thing im asking blake is:1) did you write the entire CD back to back trackwise or2) write the CD, then go back and alter song keys and transitions to make the album essentially a continuous piece of music.i can just imagine recording this thing from a drum standpoint, where its extremely hard to punch in if you mess up as opposed to other instruments being able to pick up where they left off more often.[Edited on August 22, 2007 at 2:12 PM. Reason : ]
8/22/2007 2:11:49 PM
I wouldn't ask them.I'd just operate under the pretense that they are magicians.
8/22/2007 2:30:53 PM
lolso you think my 'dark side of the moon' theory is whack? [Edited on August 22, 2007 at 3:00 PM. Reason : ]
8/22/2007 2:59:28 PM
wait, I think I missed that....what is this, now?

8/22/2007 3:14:31 PM
well, you have colors and a prism...couple that with his quote, and you're on to something valid, I think.DSoTM is only 8 tracks, too, right? Or, maybe 9. Can't remember.
8/22/2007 3:20:24 PM
9 on the original release i think
8/22/2007 3:26:50 PM
WOW!play the album backwards and sync it up 300!
8/22/2007 3:45:26 PM
lol, have you ever done the wizard of oz thing? i never bothered[Edited on August 22, 2007 at 3:46 PM. Reason : ]
8/22/2007 3:46:00 PM
back in high school a friend and I were going to attempt it but somehow we got sidetracked and never did it. I would like to at some point though. There used to a be a torrent available where they were combined so I don't know why I never downloaded it.
8/22/2007 3:51:09 PM
ah yea that would be nice. im going to have to look for that now, personally i always assumed there wasnt much to it, but at the same time it is something ive wanted to do
8/22/2007 3:53:39 PM
Do I hear trumpets at the end of Ants of the Sky?!? Haha, and the pink floyd / wiz of oz shit actually does sync up and is pretty creepy, although I don't know if it was done intentionally.
8/22/2007 4:52:16 PM
^i thought i did too but its very faint..probably the synth there but im not sure
8/22/2007 4:54:21 PM
yes, the Wiz Of Oz/DSoTM thing is mega creepy. I manage to do this about once every year or so. it's pretty kewl.
8/22/2007 11:55:09 PM
Haha, the first time I tried to do the Oz thing back in high school, me and some guys actually listened to the wrong Pink Floyd album (The Wall). So we're listening, listening, going "man this sucks," and eventually quit watching. We figured it out and got it right the next week. Moral of the story: high school kids are smart.
8/23/2007 2:54:16 PM
lol
8/23/2007 3:27:24 PM
very interested to see how they pull this album off live..or how they even play it live considering 1 or 2 songs JUST from this album could take up 30 mins. but mainly they are usually one of THE tightest bands i've ever seen live, replicating everything nearly identically to their album, and this album is going to present a lot of challenges in that regard i think
8/24/2007 9:39:16 AM
It is an excellent cd, some of the songs are amazing.
8/24/2007 11:44:54 AM
^^I've been wondering the same exact thing every day. Seems like they'd play the opening 2 tracks first, and they could in no way neglect 4-6 in its entirety. Shit, that's like 40 mins right there. And, of course, they'd have to at least play Mordecai, probably a couple off Alaska, and at least one off S/T. Oh hell, why don't they just play a 2 hr set? lol.
8/24/2007 11:55:24 AM
id be down for that. they better play a 2hr cd release show set
8/24/2007 12:26:26 PM
when is the one in Greensboro, again?? i might get a wild ass hair.
8/24/2007 1:00:32 PM
9/26/2007 - Greensboro, NC @ GREENE STREET CLUB 9/27/2007 - Charlotte, NC @ TREMONT MUSIC HALL 10/27/2007 - Spartanburg, SC @ GROUND ZERO - 10/28/2007 - W. Columbia, SC @ NEW BROOKLAND TAVERN those are the main ones people in this thread may be interested in
8/24/2007 1:02:30 PM
depending on what goes down id like to go to the last 3 theer double post oh well. im worried about our practice schedule interfering with the show 30 mins away from me in spartanburg heh[Edited on August 24, 2007 at 1:04 PM. Reason : ]
8/24/2007 1:03:04 PM
i'll probably go to the greensboro show
8/24/2007 8:51:11 PM
i really fucking want to
8/24/2007 9:40:14 PM
Which of those shows is the CD release?
8/25/2007 2:30:41 AM
^Both of these9/26/2007 - Greensboro, NC @ GREENE STREET CLUB9/27/2007 - Charlotte, NC @ TREMONT MUSIC HALL

also for anyone who will have a chance to go to a show anytime near when colors is coming out, buy the CD/merch AT the show if possible. Unfortunately, even for an established band like BTBAM they rarely see a penny of any merchandise bought through Victory or other online sites(mainly due to Victory sucking as a label in that area). IE during the RECORDING of 'colors' they saw their FIRST royalty check from alaska which was $7 But everything at the show theyre taking in the money from. Just a friendly reminder/heads up
8/27/2007 4:51:28 PM
Hmm, I guess I'll wait til the show to purchase my legit copy of colors haha.
8/28/2007 11:28:16 AM
Wow I haven't listened to BTBAM before but I checked this out on a whim and I'm pretty impressed
8/29/2007 10:51:57 AM
awesome, im glad
8/29/2007 6:18:32 PM
think i'm gonna catch the gboro release show
8/29/2007 8:50:15 PM
shit i can't go to greensboro or charlotte now...i requested off the 27th to see animal collective, and i cant very well ask off the 26th too if im already doing that.[Edited on August 30, 2007 at 1:38 PM. Reason : ]

Orange for the first color:http://www.victoryrecords.com/albumtrailers/colors/orange/ There is a video interpretation, still art interpretation, and then the band's personal/real meaning(which follows):
