Surfer's Paradise in Australia is pretty coolhell the whole east coast of Australia pwns Myrtle Beach
6/7/2007 2:50:10 AM
Those places are exotic. People go to Hawaii for its geography, not its entertainment. Just like people go to vegas for its entertainment, not its geography. Anybody who lives in a tourist area is naturally going to want to get away from the tourists. Do you think New Yorkers hang out in times square every weekend?
6/7/2007 3:01:55 AM
so what are the best places to eat at in myrtle beach?
6/7/2007 3:50:07 AM
what about all those places in the carribean??i'm sorry poetriskster you are not going to be able to convince me that Myrtle Beach is the fucking #1 beach in the world. What a joke.
6/7/2007 7:55:12 AM
this Poetrickster character is dumber than a bag of bags.
6/7/2007 8:14:11 AM
^^^^Yeah you won't be able to convince anyone of that. Maybe you're just playing devil's advocate and actually hate myrtle beach too! I'll just assume that. Someone needs to do it so we keep this thread going. Oh and sitting on the beach drinking a beer listening to the waves is not entertainment? i.e. :

Well the original reason i went to myrtle beach was the MS 150 bike for 5 years. It ended up in N. Myrtle i believe.I've also camped at Myrtle beach state park too, there's certainly reasons to go there, i'm just not too fond of the strip or all the Commercialism.[Edited on June 7, 2007 at 10:16 AM. HAHHAA. no seriously i think he's just playing devil's advocate, or TWW is paying him to keep the thread going. Cause if no one gave Myrtle beach credit on this thread it would die.

Myrtle was a fun place to go to Spring Break...when you're 16
6/7/2007 10:37:09 AM
yeah one of my friends was talking about myrtle for spring break next year and i was like that is a retarted idea. Not only was that the high school thing to do but at least during high school spring break it is April. Myrtle Beach in early march would be a coin flip. I went to Charleston one year and there was a few days of mid 70's but there was also one day when it was struggling in the high 50's and almost freezing at night.[Edited on June 7, 2007 at 10:55 AM. That shit says "world's best beaches" not "World's longest concrete block"Myrtle Beach has the most boring coastline of any beach I've been to. There's absolutely nothing redeeming about a long stretch of sand and Ocean flanked by the worst 70's miami art deco architecture known to mankind. Furthermore, anyone thats traveled to ANY, and I mean ANY global seven star, or hell, five star, resort will not find anything impressive or attractive in anything offered at myrtle. In fact, that place is downright trailer trash and most of us here realize it.That list is so clearly bogus that they might as well have put Raleigh: Pullen Park Pool at #1.
6/7/2007 12:04:49 PM
ever wonder why both sets of Bike Week are held at Myrtle Beach?i can tell you that its not b/c it was rated #1THE REAL REASON MYRTLE BEACH IS NUMBER ONE IS B/C OF THE FREAKY TIKKI

MOTHERFLETCHERS
6/7/2007 12:34:12 PM
hahaha7 out of the 10 best beaches in the WORLD, are in the US. awesome.
6/7/2007 12:42:05 PM
^its an american company. Obviously yahoo is going to have little bias towards America. Honestly, they should have just done best us beaches. THAT IS BECAUSE YOU'VE SHOWN INTEREST IN MYRTLE. click on phuket and click a few links then come back and thai ads will be all over the place. It tries to be about what you've just been looking at.Your idea of entertainment is barely entertainment by definition but i'll let you have it and just say it is a very primitive form of entertainment. Someone who quotes Emerson is going to have a very wierd view on places to go because you hate anything thats civilized. Emerson and thoreau were a transcendentalists and his type are rare. Most people do not wish to trade everything and go live primitive out in the middle of nature. Obviously, this type of person is going to have different opinions of fun/
6/7/2007 12:42:30 PM
just keep in mind that you people are arguing about an advertisement
6/7/2007 12:45:00 PM
^^so your idea of "Entertainment" is chain restaurants and chain retail stores?I could name 20 beaches I'd rather go to in the Carolinas alonehey look...straight from that yahoo site
6/7/2007 12:46:34 PM
^^ its not an ad
6/7/2007 12:51:56 PM
6/7/2007 12:54:20 PM
^^I'm just wondering where you live and where you're from...I'm from Charlotte and have been going to beaches in North and South Carolina for as long as I remember...and I've been to Myrtle...plenty...and it seems most of the other people in this thread who say Myrtle sucks are also from somewhere around here and have also been to Myrtle and have also visited a lot of other beaches to compare it toand if we're transcendentalists you simply care about nothing BUT material things ]
6/7/2007 12:54:27 PM
6/7/2007 12:55:17 PM
I'll bet their strip clubs and putt-putt places aren't as upscale.
6/7/2007 1:35:16 PM
6/7/2007 1:45:34 PM
i think this poetrickster is just trolling
6/7/2007 1:55:22 PM
do you think typing big will help people think its an ad?Why can't you get it through your thick skull that the ads on the page are related to what you've been browsing on their site. It's a top ten list with myrtle beach as #1 so a discover southcarolina link being on that page is pretty useful to people who see the list and want to go to the #1 beach. PLEASE GO TO YAHOO TRAVEL AND CLICK ON PHUKET HOTELS THEN COME RIGHT BACK TO THE HOME PAGE AND THAI ADS WILL BE IN PLACE OF THE SC ADS. ITS INTERACTVIE
6/7/2007 1:56:49 PM
k, cleared cookies, clicked on Thailand, came back, and this is still up in the upper-right hand side:
6/7/2007 2:14:15 PM
interactive or not its still bullshithey go to travel.yahoo.com and look at the "Top Cities"8 are in the United States...somehow Orlando Florida is a better "world city" than Paris, France...but Poet you're probably right...no huge websites have advertisers
6/7/2007 2:15:53 PM
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I am cancelling my plans for Hawaii!I think I'll take the wife to Myrtle Beach instead!I'll get laid for sure!
6/7/2007 2:25:47 PM
yeah apparently Roger Goodell is moving the NFL Pro Bowl from Honolulu to Myrtlealso i like how according to Yahoo, Honolulu is the 3rd best city in the world (behind Boston and Chicago)...yet its the 5th best beach
6/7/2007 2:28:39 PM
6/7/2007 3:10:21 PM
Poetrickster (got people mixed up), We're all not arguing logically. First of all it's defin an ad, there's no doubt about that. Second of all, you're trying to argue what Myrtle beach does have, and what it is. There's no doubt myrtle beach makes money and attracts people, none of us are arguing that point. The point we ARE arguing is the type of people. The ONLY type of people who would actually want to go to Myrtle beach are the type of people who've ONLY been to nc/sc beaches, and people who just don't f***ing get out. I agree Myrtle beach makes money and is a good example of economics, and supply and demand. Using your same logic you could say Americans are the fattest people in the world, and that's because we go to McDonalds. Just because McDonalds makes money doesn't mean it's right, or attractive, or culture, or anything other than "fast food garbage (which can be good sometimes, i prefer cookout or wendys)". So all the owners of all the shit holes at Myrtle beach are making a killing because they can make money off the lower income, stupid, and untraveled people in NC/SC (and the golfers from up north).Oh and regard to Transcendentalism, it was the backing of the Unitarian Universalist religion, and the reason Harvard started. (Harvard was orginally started as a divinity school for Unitarian Transcendentalists.) Plus if you read Walden it gets into Vedic stuff, which is cool.[Edited on June 7, 2007 at 3:39 PM. Reason : .]
6/7/2007 3:23:11 PM
^ I think a better argument would be McDonalds is the best restaurant in the world. After all they are highly profitable and one of the most widespread chains. Does this mean McD's has the best food [N0]
6/7/2007 3:27:13 PM
Well yeah Myrtle beach would be on the bottom of the list of beaches to go to in NC/SC. And i can't stand confederate flags. Myrtle beach has too many of them, and it's like writing "i have an IQ of 60" on your forehead."Oh and "best" doesn't always mean most profitable or most popular. Then you could say what is always the most popular is always the best, and that logic doesn't hold. [Edited on June 7, 2007 at 3:33 PM. Reason : .]
6/7/2007 3:32:22 PM
Thats funny because if you look at the plates on all the minivans filled with families they read things like NEW YORK PENNSYLVANIA OHIO MICHIGAN and places up north that generally are higher income, better educated and they are GETTING OUT by driving a hell of a long way just to get there so throw the convienence nc/sc stupid people thing out the window. The people from nc/sc and johsnon county are the ones going to holden beach.I've noticed that a good number of users on this site have something against American culture. Any popular music, movie, form of entertainment or destination. And because sc has one golf ad on yahoo you think yahoo has gone out of its way and risked its credibility to make a top 10 ranking just for sc and oh by the way only put ONE sc beach (which allegedly isn't even a top 20 beach in sc ) in the entire ranking?? gtfo with THAT bullshit. And even though it may not be true its not like its far fetched. It is well known that the carolinas have some of the best coastline in the world. Myrtle has some of the most beach development in the world and easily the most in this stretch of beautiful carolina coastline so it already has a major legup on most beaches. Tropical places are just as or more beautiful but they gain legs up because they don't have seasons and people can escape during any time of the year and not because there is stuff to there. Keep in mind Orlando is BY FAR the #1 tourist destination in the world because of development alone.[Edited on June 7, 2007 at 3:52 PM. Reason : yahoo is crooked]

Just remember, when you're on your train trip, and you get to the Wizard, you're asking for a brain.
6/7/2007 3:46:28 PM
and some balls to travel other places
6/7/2007 3:51:36 PM
Well you're right people from New England DO come down to myrtle beach, but they're the "trash" of the north (There's trashy low income stupid people everywhere)(not making a correlation between trashy stupid and low income, just saying these people are all three). Out of the hundreds of people i know in New England, not one of them would even come to Myrtle beach. And statistically i think it's still under 20 percent who actually come from the north (and that doesn't include current residents). And yes the outter banks of North Carolina and South Carolina ARE some of the best coastlines in the US, but once you hit anywhere near myrtle beach, it very quickly goes to the WORST beaches in the world. Myrtle beach doesn't preserve anything, it's trash and the only thing natural they haven't destroyed is the water. Once they figure out how to do that, they'll market the water to, and charge you to swim.Wait i found something interesting, Myrtle beach has the record for the world's tallest sand castle! Finally we know why it's number 1!And i feel bad for Poetrickster now. No one is on his side, and if he truely likes Myrtle beach then we can't change his opinion on that. 6/7/2007 3:58:16 PM
Yes Statistically there are higher income, more educated people in New England, and most major cities (same trend is true in NC, closer you get inside the city, the bluer it gets, and the more educated people are). But that still doesn't mean any of them come to Myrtle beach.
6/7/2007 4:00:44 PM
the average salary in Los Angeles is $500,000 a yearthat doesnt mean they're smartalso i already mentioned a few pages ago that most peopel who go to Myrtle are from Ohio/Michigan/NY/NJ (cold northeast or landlocked)...because they are cold places or places away from the coast...not because people are richer and smarter
6/7/2007 4:03:50 PM
I've been to LA, San Fran, and San Diego quite a few times, and the average income is still less than 100 grand. Google "average LA income, and it'll show you that". http://www.payscale.com/research/US/City=Los_Angeles/Salaryhttp://www.indeed.com/salary?q1=los+angeles+area&l1=CaliforniaHAHAHA, that site says the average sallery is 53 grand a year. I guess you forgot to take off a 0. Correction, most people who go to Myrtle beach are from NC/SC, i think it's less than half that come from out of state. I'm trying to find the link i had last time i was picking at Myrtle beach. And yes, people in California DO have a higher average income partly because the cost of living is insane over there. And yes statistically California has a higher level of education than NC.[Edited on June 7, 2007 at 4:16 PM. Reason : .]

any beach with a "freaky tiki" does not not deserve to be on any list other than "top ten worlds trashiest beaches".and this:
6/7/2007 5:26:59 PM
I think I agree with a lot of what Poe is saying. Tww does hate all things popular....
6/7/2007 5:27:24 PM
I think TWW has been to other beaches in the area that are better beaches than Myrtle and therefore they know Myrtle at #1 is a joke assuming the criteria is indeed "best beach" and not "most tourist income in a jampacked crowded concrete beach"
