and we are still figuring everything out there.. the A/C was sooo much better Saturday night vs. Thursday and Friday. They pretty much have that straightened out... and I was working the VIP/stage area on Saturday and standing next to the speakers..so yeah I know how loud it is. But it is a huge place so you can definitely move to different areas with less noise...

I disagree a little bit.

The place isn't really THAT big. It's a good size but anywhere in the main room is loud. I don't like pool or the losers that pool tables generally attract so I have absolutely no desire to hang out in the pool room.

I spent most of Saturday outside because the music was too damn loud but outside really wasn't happening at all and you couldn't hear the band whatsoever.

There has to be a medium to where you can dance/listen have a good time if you're in a party mood or drink/chill/converse while listening to the band.

The sluts are gonna want to be inside but all the guys are gonna want to be outside if the music is that fucking loud.

I do love the cover songs aspect though. Not enough local bands realize that their music isn't appealing enough to justify paying a cover to go see it. I'd rather pay to hear songs I'm familiar with and can have in the background while i socialize. The atmosphere of your bar is nice, just fix the a/c and volume issues.

^all i read is "too loud" "too loud" "too loud"

just sounds like you are just too old to be hanging out in a place like this......

and i mean i am not saying I am in the prime of my college years anymore but if i am going out to a club/bar these days, i remember how loud it is when you go out to bars and clubs meant to attract people trying to go out, dance, and have fun.

I'm not too wild about loud, either

unless I'm actually AT a show that I fully expect to be loud.

in a social environment, not so much.

then again, at most bars, "people" are only intersted in not really having to talk.

that's too difficult for their ilk. it's far easier to just get drunk and ignore any pretense at sense.

I haven't been there but I agree in a general sense. Its nice to have a place where you can go with folks and actually talk, as opposed to exchanging pheromones in a loud sweaty environment prior to copulating.

I will agree that too loud can be bad at times, but also, you get what you pay for. You go to a place that has a DJ/band and the music is typically going to be loud. Now if a place were to still have good music at a reasonable volume, then there would be money to be made, because you would satisfy everyone. And, I just realized that this is basically a recap of what has been said, so there's my added or repeated $.02

I'm gonna be out there tonight having fun. Just a DJ tonight, no live band... so the volume should better.
And no cover on Wednesdays either, because there is no band - finally a place that makes sense with the cover...

Plus $2 drafts all night! Pretty good deal imo.

^^ i think I've answered this enough already but... no... we're not really like City Limits at all... we just have the word "saloon" in our name because we are in the South... our bars up north are called Lodge Bar (Baltimore, Milwaukee(sp?), etc.)

^ not typically, but we're doing a charity event with the SPCA soon when you will be able to for that!!! I'll keep all the TWW dog lovers (myself included) up-to-date with this! (everyone at Buckhead LOVES dogs, our GM and Assistant Manager both have adorable pups that we love on every chance we get)... if there wasn't a big fence around our deck we'd probably have you all bring pups every day!

On a semi-related note, and just overall industry pat-on-the-back, I thiink Sammy's encourages drinking with your dog on the deck on Sunday's?

went last night after the standstill inside rum runners. pretty good time except for the fact i was with my girlfriend and her two hot friends... not really a problem to me but watching all the drunks hit on them all night got a little old. i assume the place will be packed on nights other than wednesdays, but the crowd last night was just about right. not too crowded, not too empty.

A Saloon is a country name. So if you were trying to create a business crowd that excludes Country people then why name your club like most country bars are??? Why not just name it the buckhead club or buckhead bar?

i went last night. I thought the set up was pretty nice. I felt like i was sitting in a refrigerator though because they had the AC on full blast and they were rocking out 90's pop music all night. Besides those two things it was a cool place

i loved the AC being on full blast. Definitely much better than being hot and sweaty all night. It seemed a little strange to me that there were buck heads hanging everywhere , and pictures of rednecks with their deer's and rap music blaring. Thought there would be more country music.

The place is Doomed to fail it will stay open for about 3 years max. If people are going to drive that far downtown they will go to Glenwood bars.

anyone with ears knows this is FAR better than modern pop music.

^I don't live in Raleigh anymore, but I'll certainly opt to drive the extra 1/4 mile to avoid the Glenwood shenanigans. I can think of 2 bars on Glenwood I can spend more than 10 mins in, and one isn't at all part of the whole Glenwood South schtick.

i'll probably never set foot in that place.

if having a good time means driving a little past Glenwood, then I'm OK.

Glenwood South -> Blue Martini -> Flying Saucer -> Buckhead -> Ess

Technically, the whole basis of the membership is that we don't have a kitchen, therefore 30% of revenue doesn't come from food so NC requires you to be a private club for members and their guests (still eludes me exactly what the REAL purpose is)...

but our membership doesn't come without benefits... we do nights where members get reduced cover, on Thursday's ladies pay no cover, we'll do member specials on drinks, we do an email for our members to invite everyone to different promotions or events, give away stuff, etc.

This is a lot of what I'm doing there so I'm trying my hardest (as well as all of our managers) to make sure that everyone who actually does sign up and get a membership (which now, we have to charge at least $1 for by law... before opening we could give them away for free) gets some good perks.

Basically how the membership works now, is you'll pay something like $7 (don't hold me to it, it freakin' changes before I know it) when cover is $5 and that'll take care of your membership + cover.

On a side note, tonight is no cover for ladies, $3 martinis and $3 wine by the glass

Last night was no cover for anyone, $2 any draught pint, $1.50 well liquors... I got a good buzz for $7

I'm trying my hardest to let ppl know of our specials each night as we're trying them out to see what folks like best, but our website is outsourced, so http://www.myspace.com/buckheadraleigh and our facebook group ("buckhead saloon raleigh") is the only thing I have control over that I can post to daily.

Ok, I think that covered everything.

One last thing I want to repeat... for anyone who is writing it off or whatever without trying it... let me take care of your cover one night and have you come in and make that decision there

ncsuGALxcPaC... all of the nights are good and have different crowds... I think Friday will be fun and I'll be there! PM me your name and I'll leave you on the guest list!

And for everyone that keeps saying we won't survive because we're too far from Glenwood... West Street was busier than Glenwood Avenue last weekend between us and the NV (men's clothing in North Hills) "Rock the Runway" show at Ess Lounge. I really think that this part of downtown is going to continue to grow as well because I've heard there are at least 2 or 3 going in the complex behind Ess in The Raleigh Depot...

IMHO, I think it's all in good business for the glenwood area... it'll only increase traffic downtown by offering many more options. Yes there will probably be a slight division between everything South of the Hillsborough/Glenwood area and the traditional Glenwood South area, but it just means bars are going to have to do more to ensure their guests have a good time... and that is our #1 goal so it's not going to cause us to have to do anything differently

^^ Its against North Carolina state law to have a "bar" so the only way to get around the law if you dont sell at least 30% food is to make it a private membership club... hence the memberships

The place is nice Ill definitely vouch for it. It'll do well as long as they stick to basic bar principles: price/entertainment value/service/vagina

The location is fine, theres plenty of successful places around and Jillians was in business for a long time despite having twice as much overhead as this place...

Here are my suggestions:

If you must have a cover, keep it low. A lot of people won't go to a bar, simply because there is a cover.

Have nights where there is no cover... and that means for guys too.

Good Thursday night specials ($1.50 beers - or just BL like Stool Pigeons)

Keep it fun

Thursdays are the nights that people with 9-5's are most likely to go out during the week. I just think it'd be better business to have a more unisex special on that night.

see this is where you really, really need to talk to your owners

this is Raleigh, NC. There should not be a cover to get into ANY bar/club unless you are letting under aged people in. Then charge them the cover. Yeah people may be paying it now b/c they want to come check it out. But down the road when people are trying to decide where to go out at night, having the cover will always hurt you. Call me cheap or what you will but I will never go to a bar that charges a cover unless i know someone letting me in for free. And I guarantee this will be the opinion expressed by many. And this will lead to the downfall of your saloon.

Plus with only a 21+ crowd you are going to more than make up for it in alcohol sales anyhow.

i went there last night with some friends - so here's my review

had to talk to 3 different people just to get in the door - only cost $2 though so that's not too bad - that's unfortunate but it did move quickly - they said they wanted my phone # and email so they could contact me about something regarding membership - i just drew a line through both and then the girl sitting there got onto me about it - i have to imagine they aren't calling/emailing everyone saying to come pick up your membership and rather you pick it up at the door when you come next time so why would they want that other than to spam me with stuff

as i've read in this thread - the music could be turned down a notch or two - it was a bit hard to her - this was more so an issue when the band was playing - it was so loud that their instruments sounded bad - they did have good voices and played a great selection - the dj should be fired - the songs he was playing are good but whatever remixes he was playing last night i thought sucked - i like techno and i like hip hop but the mixture of the two he did was horrible - although there were definitely more people dancing everytime the band played and the dj started

good crowd there - mixture of people wanting to relax and have a beer and people wanting to get drunk and dance - seemed like everyone was having a good time except for 1 girl that looked like she worked there wearing red jacket/shirt and short black shorts - she just walked around with this pissed off look all night

there was a wind of cold AC walking in the door - but once i was there for 5 minutes i didn't even notice

decent beer selection - never took more than 1-2min. to get a beer - $3.25 is too much for a miller lite bottle in a place like that though

seemed to me like there were too many heads on the walls - made it look like overkill i thought but the people i was with disagreed with me and liked it

^^^ I completely agree... unfortunately, our owners are not local and don't understand that about Raleigh. And yes, I'm good at my job and they love me... but I in no way call the shots - know what I mean?

^^ I'll get back to you when I'm back in the office and try and explain the membership stuff... don't be angry... it's actually a lot of my job... I promise I HATE the thought of sending stupid spam and wouldn't do it!
