Wow, I started reading every post in this thread but I think the relevance of it ran out halfway down page 1. Since then it has been a collage of strong opinions from people who's credibility is only backed up by their own claims of experience. Personally, the last place I'd go to for financial advice is TWW. If you don't trust your financial advisor, get a new one or at least get valued suggestions from good sources, be it friends in the business, other advisors, or even credible articles online.

dave421, don't take this too personally, but your posts have degraded exponentially. Based on them I feel that if I sat down with you at the table to buy insurance I would feel bullied into buying it and would never feel comfortable with any purchase. I guess the word "salesmen" in your former title is a bit unsettling when what I'm really looking for is sound advice. I know you probably hate me now but I'm just saying that at this point even if you are right and your advice is better than anyone else's, not many people are going to listen to it because of the way you are presenting it.

Having said all that, my advisor tried to sell me Universal Variable Life insurance but I didn't because holy shit, it is expensive. For now I'm more comfortable dumping my savings into my well performing yet heavily taxed mutual funds

Last month Bankrate had a interesting interview with Stephen Pollan on different types of insurance.

^^ i don't feel like going into it all again right now, but you do not want whole or universal life insurance.

buy term if you need life insurance, and invest the difference.

my dad is in the insurance business, largely doing life insurance (and lots of whole/universal). even he will tell you that it is a poor investment.
